If Quinn had any part in drafting Takk McKinley we shouldn’t want him anywhere near this team.

Here’s a newsflash for everyone. You need blue chip defenders no matter who your defensive coordinator is. Offenses are too good now and if you don’t have the talent then you will be rotating the DC every year.

Currently we have Tank and maybe Diggs in a year or two. We also have a poop chip defender in Jaylon Smith so that basically cancels out anything good we have

All the talk about Quinn and simple defense sure is a concern. It sounds like Garrett’s approach that he stole from our 90’s teams - even though we run the same 3 plays our talent is too much to stop. Then free agency came. If Quinn needs the Legion of Boom talent level for us to succeed due to his simple scheme, we are going to suck for a long, long time given how little talent we have now on defense. The Patriots are the example of a team that has good talent at key positions on the defense but leverages scheme to outwit opponents and win championships. Jerry heard a name he could recognize and someone who had been in a SB, like MM, and here we are. Again.

GM was Thomas Dimitroff. They were worried Dallas would draft him and so traded above Dallas to get him.

Takk is a story in itself. The talent is there, but his best pass rush move, because of a lack of technique, leads him to injure himself. ex DTs for Atlanta would remark on that.

His best defense at Atlanta did not have LOB talent. It had two exceptional players, a fast MLB and a SS. A top 10 scoring defense.
That said, what we want him to do is take a broken Mike Nolan defense and get it to not suck, and he's done that before.

Dan speaks well. You guys are going to LOVE his press conferences. I am 100% certain he talked his way into this job.

Not true. He was HC and DC in 2019 and awful at it. Raheem Morris saved his bacon, DCwise, middle of the season.
This graphic that was posted earlier in this thread seems to show they did improve in 2019.

Let's look at the performance split before and after Raheem was de facto DC.

Morris comes in after the bye. ATL is 1-7 at that point. They finish 7-9.

The easiest way to see what I'm getting at is to go to the games section and look at the expected points column. When DQ is DC, it is at least -5 for every game, except Philadelphia (which they won).
After, there is exactly one game where EP is below -5.0. Raheem saved DQs bacon.

So did Raheem cook his bacon in 2020?

My concern with Quinn is that he isn't any good.

Leaving out Seattle where he took over a defense that had great players and was already rolling, is he objectively any better than Nolan?

What are you talking about ? we have Lawrence , Jaylon and Wilson. That’s better than what Seattle had! You have have to have on all pro at every level on defense

Lawrence really is right there, Jaylon is not and Donavon Wilson we don't know but looks like a player only time will tell

And he's made some of those choices that you say "okay, I'm good with that coach", like Chan Gailey, then for really no good reason he fired Gailey, who had made the playoffs both years he was the coach. Gailey was 10-6 and 8-8, but fired anyway. Garrett goes 8-8 three years running and was kept for several more years.

Just more evidence that Jerry hasn't a clue as to how to run an NFL franchise, as far as winning goes, though he thinks he has...
Gailey was fired because Aikman was not happy about his offensive philosophy/system. Jerry later regretted firing Gailey which contributed some to his reluctance to fire Garrett.

I didn't know Ted Nugent specialized in analyzing NFL film. You don't have to be a blue chip player to run his scheme. What you need is a heart, a motor, some intelligence, and a bit of dog. Every player in Seattle was not elite, they worked as a team, bought in to the scheme, and executed the scheme, and the teams they played. When Carroll started getting cute (Dumb Superbowl play), the team began to ravel. No one player is greater than the team.

After some thought, Dan Quinn might actually be a good addition. Why you may ask?

  • He blows leads
  • We can never get leads and don’t start scoring til the 2nd half.

It all balances out. His bad mojo will balance out our bad mojo. So we either won’t score at all, or we will score all 4 Q.

Terrible HC, above average DC; get him the right groceries. Some of the food in the Dallas fridge, is beyond the expiration date.

Quinn better be making the first 4 picks in this year's draft.

Let him pick his guys and one splash free agency signing.

Will have to all be the through the draft not enough money if you sign Dak. But agree need to go heavy defense this draft.

DQ and Tom D were fired after a few games this year. As interim HC Raheem outperformed DQ with the same players.
But you said he took over running the defense so those numbers are Raheems right?

Quinn's concern should be focused on having the right players to implement his scheme. I don't think that is the case at the moment.
