How'd Smith get dragged into this discussion? Nothing positive with you EVER. Hey, La'ell's back. Dak's back. Tyron's back. They drafted arguably the best defensive player in the draft. There's a brand new defensive coaching staff and Thursday night the Cowboys play against the defending SB champs. Lots to be positive about and excited for.
I've not seen this defense play yet, so unlike you, I prefer the wait and see approach before I crown them the 85' Bears like you have.

Jaylon Smith was dragged in because that's the type of stuff this organization pulls when they restructure a deal to free up cap space. They use it to sign someone like Smith or Crawford to a contract they don't deserve instead of actually bringing in guys that will help this team.

Yet many predict a 9 win season for Dallas....so 1 game above .500. Yeah, so great the expectations. We will see how the season plays out as expectations are unbaked bread at this point.

First time I can remember a team restructuring a deal year one lol.

Probably will be a yearly thing for the next couple of years. And maybe Amari too if they decide to build with him in the core.

So kicking more money down the road is a good thing? Okay.
I use to think it was a bad thing until I saw the Eagles this year have the worst cap situation I've seen in recent memory and still be able to sign Stephen Nelson. I've given up on the term "cap hell". I think with most fans it was something brought up to use in debates against signing guys like Dak to a big term deal but I've yet to see a team get destroyed due to cap hell. And Eagles handed out some terrible contracts to some 30+ year old gusy............

When we watch players like DLaw, J. Smith, Zeke, and Collins get huge extensions and then underperform I would think any contract issue/move Dallas makes creates a sense of leeriness with many. That said, at the end of the day the way Dallas runs their franchise means nothing in our daily lives as the only finances we control is our own.

I respect your desire for more positivity but there are many others in this group you could use as an example of that rather than the member you just pointed out. That said, enjoy the day.

Fully expected to see big contracts like Dak, restructured. Only surprise is to see it done at this time. This is something done league wide as teams look to circumvent the salary cap and every team out there when they do these big contracts do so with the ability to restructure along the way.

Well for the record, how many guys get extensions in the NFL and all of a sudden get better? It sucks for these guys they have to wait until they have 4 or 5 years of abuse to their body to get paid. Sure for Quarterbacks its ok because they play until they are in their late 30's......not for the rest of the positions though.

You do understand that when you restructure to create cap space it generally means you have a cap issue? So while I don't think we are in cap Hell personally, this hurts your argument, it doesn't help it
Hopefully they just roll this space forward and then the math basically works out the same as if they don't kick this unnecessary money into outer years.

This is misleading because it is a frozen point in time and will certainly change a lot, but just to show where we are cap wise as we sit here today look at all teams for 2023. No team is within $50M of us:

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/2023/

Not really. It means that the Cowboys have little things they can do in order to get what they want. Dak's contract is not killing this team like some said. Not by a long shot.

And when you look at all the other contracts that will come off the books in the next year or two, then it becomes even more laughable.

Zeke and Jaylon alone will created another 30 million in cap space. Cooper another 22 if we want it.

I'm not encouraging all posters to not be doom and gloom I'm just saying its our first game of the season and positivity is welcoming to be around. I'm just not use to doom and gloom before the season opener. This is like Christmas for me.
