MBIII is a restricted free agent after this year.

Julius Jones is an unrestricted free agent (UFA).

Patrick Crayton UFA.

Flozell Adams UFA.

Ken Hamlin UFA.

We have to keep MBIII, don't we? After all, he's only a RFA and a fan fav.

JJ is gone, I hope. We should replace his role with a mid round rookie, sharing 30% of the carries with Barber.

Patrick Crayton probably won't ever be a number 1 WR. I don't think he has the speed for it. But he's a great number 3 and a decent number 2. I'm not really sure what we should do with him. It seems to me that if we can sign him to a small contract (1.5mil a yr or less) then we should. WR get paid a lot though.

Flozell Adams should go. He's getting up there in age and I'm pretty tired of his false start penalties. He's a good lineman, but not great. And he will demand a king's ransom in the FA market. We have some young guys to take his place. It's time for a new, young guy to come in. Better to integrate the young guys slowly and only replacing one guy on the line at a time is good.

Ken Hamlin, I'm not sure what we should do. Safties don't get paid all that much, so it's not that huge of a risk to resign him. Although, since he's having one of his best years, he'll probably demand quite a bit of money. I wish Roy's contract was up, then we could let him go and sign Hamlin. But we really need a cover saftey and while Hamlin has been decent, I'm not sure if he's the answer.

What do you guys think?

I think MBIII gets a 1st and 3rd round tender. Well, at least a 1st round tender . . . . .

I think JJ is gone.

I think we re-sign Hamlin. JJ has already made noises about that I think.

I think we probably sign Crayton to a "decent" contract.

As for Flo, I'm not sure. I think we TRY to sign him to a 2-3 year type deal. But I don't think JJ is going to break the bank for him. I guess it really depends what JJ and the coaching staff think about D Free at this stage.

But I do think we TRY to re-sign Flo.

I know what the trend is in the NFL, but do we really have to replace JJ? Would MBIII doing all the running, really be that bad? I'm not saying that, that is necessarily what we should do. But, If there are more important holes to fill? Would MBIII really be that bad doing all the carries? I'm not so convinced about this change of pace stuff as Valley Ranch is.

we'll probably be concentrating most of our efforts this free agent period into re-signing our own players, the most outside free agents I think we sign is 2, and they'll be mid-level, special teams guys

re-sign Flo
re-sign Crayton
1st round tender MBIII
re-sign Hamlin
re-sign Reeves

If we let flo walk Romo better be scared, Flo false start once a game maybe, but gives up no sacks at all, maybe one every 4 games or so and if u put a rookie on the left side be prepared for romo to get hammered......

I doubt they tender Barber. That means he can go out and get a huge contract elsewhere and we have to match. Snyder would offer 50 mill a year just to get under Jones skin. We are gunna sign Barber.

If there was no salary cap I'd resign all of them too. But aren't you guys concerned about the cap? Flozell will require L. Davis kind of money. Remember, L.Davis wasn't even considered to be all that great and he still got a truck load of cash.

We will also be spending fairly big money on two first rounders next year. Romo got a huge extension so our team salary is not quite as low as it was at the start of the year. Just some stuff to think about.

no, teams have to go higher than our tender, and if they do and we don't match, we get draft picks as required comp

so if we tender him the highest, the 1st and 3rd round tender, not only do they have to give him a substantial contract, but also give us 2 1st day picks

no team is going to do that for Barber, or any back for that matter unless he is LT or maybe AD

Not with Stephen on the job. Not concerned a bit.

OK - I stand corrected, but then if were giving him a substantial offer, why not just sign him and quit playing games. The dudes a bad man.

I think Barber taking 70% of the carries next year is still considered a feature back. He's doing 50-60% now, I think.

Barber is not a huge guy. He's not Steven Jackson, Larry Johnson or Brandon Jacobs. Meaning, I don't think a guy with his running style and his size will last all that long as a 95% carries kind of guy. Sure, Emmitt and Curtis Martin and a few other smaller guys like that have done it for long periods of time, but they don't run like Barber does. Barber runs like he's an ogre and that why we all love him. I'd like to keep Barber for many years to come and I think having him do 70-80% will keep him effective as he gets older.

That's all just speculation of course.

BTW, he's never been a 95% carries guy. He shared carries with Maroney in college, which makes him great in that kind of role.

Maybe Stephen says let them go. I guess only time will tell, because I don't have a full understanding on how the salary cap can be manipulated.

I don't know about us not signing anyone important. I do think what you say is definately a possibility... but I can also see Jones making a big signing as well.

When Jerry thinks he's close to getting another trophy, he's shown before that he'll lay the money out there. And we are very close, if we don't get it this year.

We do have a good bit of cap room to do it with, too.

I can see a few scenarios where Jerry might spend in free agency.

1. If he decides that McFadden is simply out of reach, he might try to sign Michael Turner to replace Julius... a move that I would support. Jerry could talk Turner into coming here and splitting with Barber (not sitting behind like he is LT). That would fix the RB spot up nicely and free up the two first rounders and one second for DB and WR.

2. He might spend for Asante Samuel in order to strengthen us and weaken New England. I can see him doing this if he decides to bundle some picks to move up to get McFadden. Maybe end up with McFadden and Asante as the two big pickups next year. That is also a move I could support, depending on what he gave up for McFadden. He could also do this without moving up for D Mac. Get Samuel and then RB and WR in round 1. Either would be nice.

There just isn't a whole lot of room for young guys to come in and compete for a roster spot. Most everyone we have here is young and good. He's drafted the future of the OL (hopefully) in the last couple of years, along with the Davis pick up. The DL is extremely deep. Special teams are solid. I don't see us needing to add a whole lot of guys.

Right or wrong, Jerry could decide to add just a very few star or star potential players to the team. That would be nice, IMO. Next year we could go back to grabbing a bunch of young hopefuls and role players.

Can Snyder really do that being over the Salary Cap? :)

that could happen too

I really think Jerry is going to give up the moon to get McFadden

The last time Jerry tried to get the last extra piece to make another run we got Joey Galloway and three consecutive 5-11 seasons.

I think Jerry has learned his lesson.

Part of that may have been it took him awhile to recover from that ACL? I mean he's been successful since.
