The Cowboys have become increasingly toxic

I think it is toxic and it has been toxic for a while. Dak is not the only reason.. there were issues well before he came along but Dak captures why this franchise is not going anywhere.

How Dak perfectly captures our ineptitude:
So we recruit Dak in the 4th.. This highlights how we have tried to continually cheat on the most important position in the sport (perhaps the most important individual position in all of team sports). Even though Romo was having injury issues, we had no viable back ups in place and hadn't recruited his successor or even tried.

We keep Dak as starter even when Romo is healthy: Jerry and Carrot loved the whole fairytale story. They loved the jersey sales. They loved the thought of 'greatness' and did not pay attention to the play. Did not pay attention to the fact that it was Zeke that was carrying the offence. Did not notice that we were playing with a reduced playbook against weakened oppo. Did not even give Romo a CHANCE to get back his position by even getting reps with the first string at practise.

We don't draft anyone to be behind Dak... so best case scenario we 'caught lightning in a bottle' with Daks rookie season.. Romo departs.. do we attempt to get some back up/competition for Dak? Nope.. we instead decide, after 16 games, that we have found 'the one' and then ignore the QB position for at least the next 8 drafts. Dak doesn't face a day of competition for his position during his 8 year + tenure.

We pay Dak waaaaaay too much money... so because we didn't recruit back up and don't have a plan.. we allow Dak and his manager to bend us over and sign a contract that will decimate the team with the added bonus of a no trade clause. We essentially hand the keys to the entire kingdom to a guy that has done exactly squat.

We still commit to Dak even though he has produced nothing.. So even after yet another playoff disaster.. another crushing loss.. and almost the entire football world now understanding that Dak is crap.. our FO recommits to him publicly and makes it clear that he will be re-signed and on huge money. Situation normal.

So no, Dak isn't the only reason why we have sucked for 30 years.. but boy does his 'career' at Dallas give you a great insight into why we suck. Dak is a B grade back up QB that we have paid like an elite franchise QB, not recruited successor or competition and have continued with this charade as it sells jerseys.

Okay, I'm just going to say this. Things surrounding the Cowboys have become increasingly toxic of late.

Look at the drama with Dak's current situation. Families of players launching into tirades. Former players attacking current players. Fans irate at Jerry (understandably). Jerry showing a complete disregard for fans by saying he's going to do one thing and doing the exact opposite. I could go on. Ever since the loss against Green Bay, it's like a nuclear cloud of hyper toxic radiation was dropped on the DFW area. Is this what Jerry wants? Is this what he sees as good business? Is this how he and Stephen think they'll be able to maintain business?

Sure, there are lots of fans still nowadays. However, I (who currently live in Cleveland) sense that I'm among the last generation of Cowboys fans. Someday, Jerry or Stephen are going to wake up and there will be no more Cowboys fans. We will be the most irrelevant team in the NFL, and it takes generations to rebuild fans. Sure, the Joneses have more money than anyone in 5 generations could spend. Yet, what's the point? What's the end game? Do they sell the team? Do they fold it? Cuz this toxic tornado surrounding the Cowboys isn't fun. It can't be fun for the players or coaches. It's certainly not fun for us fans. This sport is supposed to be entertaining. Yet, how can this level of toxicity be fun or entertaining?

All I can think of is that maybe it's time for the entire team to just implode and be burned to the ground so something new can be built on top of it. I think it may be time for anybody with trade value to be traded now. Let the next few seasons really be terrible, but acquire as many draft picks as we can (circa 1989-1991) to try to build some semblance of a champion. Get a team that can play physically. Maybe, just maybe, if this team can show genuine signs of being able to legitimately compete, the toxic tornado can start to dissipate. I hope somehow, things can start to become less toxic and become more fun.
Five years ago I would have said that this was an insane take

I don't believe that anymore.

When the Jones' boys say they don't have a culture problem, it's just more evidence of a culture problem

105.3 the fan isnt helping either. They are perpetuating the toxicity. Even going so far as to attack Cowboy content creators on YT as morons. Do they realize they are attacking the fanbase, or do they care? They that smug at the fan? Kinda seems like a culture issue that is systemic in Frisco.
Why shouldn't they? When every year fans listens to the pied idiot piper all the way to the bank. Respect is earned not given. Whatever respect we've earned as Dallas Cowboy fans. Jerry has taken away.

i want this to get even more toxic and ugly

jerry and stephen will never ever learn or change any other way it have to get bad…….really bad

time for real change!!!!!
Even at 0-17 these clowns wont change. We are screwed as a fan base everybody knows it. The Cowboys have become a joke. Stop watching any shows that talk about the Cowboys so their ratings go down. Stop watching on Sunday and boycott these clowns. Stop buying any Cowboy gear ect.. Until enough people do that nothing and I mean nothing will change. This family is hell bent on making more money and anything else is secondary. They will smile and look the fan base in the eye and lie. They believe the fan base will never go anywhere no matter what and that might be the truth and again why nothing will ever change including 0-17.

Yup JJ and his son dont care. Because they know fans are going to sell out the stadium and buy merch. Until this team fail to make the playoffs or does no longer have a franchise QB, its on us fans to live with this bs.

jesus Dak has not been here 30 years how the hell has any of this "Blindsided" Jerry?..the whole damn team didnt show AGAIN for a playoff game was that Daks fault back in 2007, 2010,...1998..I mean when is this on Jerry?
I'm talking about bringing hope to this current team. To me Jerry is a problem but that can be over come with elite QB play. Dak doesn't bring that to the table in the playoffs. The Cowboys haven't won anything since Aikman and coincidentally they haven't drafted a top teir prospect since Aikman.

I think you have a case of being terminally online and assuming the rage you see here is what everyone feels. Most fans are casual and will continue to support the team when the season arrives.

Possibly, but been spending more time with my furry friends in the fandom. It just feels toxic of late.

Yeah, for me they're strangely linked and similar.
During Campo our floor and ceiling levels of expectation were definitely tainted and rightly so after enduring that 3 year stretch with him. Everyone kinda knew we weren't going "anywhere" with him in charge.

But for some strange reason this McFraud era feels eerily similar in that everyone knows we aren't going "any farther" with McFraud at the helm. Different but the same.

At least in my opinion.

True, despite the fact that McCarthy some how took a team doing nothing in FA to 3 12-5 records. That said, it feels like that era.

Problem number five or six with this organization is situations like a guy like McClay saying something like ‘we need better depth at _____, or a better starter at ____ ….’

Then the kid chimes in and says it’s too expensive.

The opinion by committee is not an asset, it’s a detriment. Succeed or fail, it needs to be one persons vision, not one guy gets his way this time, and another one gets his way the next time….etc.

Yup, and they don't do well trying to go all in or trade anyway.

Honestly, Dak, imo, is far from the problem. The fact that we could find a quality QB undrafted and in round 4 is remarkable. The problem is that the FO hasn't really been quality or done quality moves. JG wasn't a good coach to develop a QB.

Sports fandom in general is extremely toxic.
What the Cowboys are doing is what turned a lot of fans off to the MLB. Owners and teams that can spend to make their team better but won’t.

Unfortunately I doubt the media in Dallas is willing to hold his feet to the fire and say you can’t be the only team not to sign someone and claim you’re doing everything you can. The Eagles were supposedly in trouble with the cap and they’ve gone on a spree.

I don't really find it toxic. I just find a bunch of fed up fans, including family members of fans, who are tired of perpetual mediocrity and ZERO effort to change course. The fact that the Miami Dolphins beat us last year and the Detroit Lions actually got out of the 2nd round of the playoffs ahead of us and the Eagles already won a superbowl and been to another... Cowboys fans are angry and rightfully so. Depending on what Quinn shows up, Washington could easily blow past us as well as they actually have a FO that is making moves now. If they actually get a QB, they could be a thorn for years to come as well as the Eagles. We could be bottom feeders in the division for a while now.

Yup, and we could've done more if Jerry were to put forth effort.

Yep sign me up as a minority believer with you. I get back lash every time I say it but I believe the pairing of a no non sense, non-puppet HC along with a truly elite QB could overcome even Jerry.

Most here believe Jerry would still bring that type of leadership duo down.

I say he might, but not before we at least tasted a championship game or 2 and possibly even a SB.

The McFraud and Sleepnumber duo has totally maxed out its ceiling. They ain't getting us any farther.

Get a real HC and a real QB and the change will be incredible. As to how long it would last before Jerry messes it up I have no clue but for the time that they were here the change would be incredibly obvious to all.
