The Cowboys have prioritized two spots on the roster in offseason, per Jerry

What's it going to be then, eh?

I'm pleased they aren't falling for Butler. It would be a major step back thinking he could fill in for TWill. I would bring Butler back at a low contract # but certainly not as the #2 outside WR.

There are tons of options now in FA at WR. Some better players than TWill, if we aren't bringing him back.
If I am running the team I check Butler's locker to ensure he wasn't leaving something behind.

If so, I mail it to his last address on file.

Until we sign Butler, imo it would be a waste to trade up for a pass rusher, unless something drastic happens. I want young(I admit unproven) depth and as many picks as we can get. WR, DE, 1 tech, linebacker, guard, tackle, safety, corner, heck we need picks. If I had a good offer i would trade out of the first in a heartbeat.

rookie wr not dependable for wr2.
i dont think butler is dependable for wr2 either.
twill is ok but they can do better - that may well be what FO is thinking.

Again, FA was never mentioned.

Where are the guys that would upgrade the defense?

Internal and draft are right!

Internally I suspect the DL will be improved simply by DLaw not being suspended Tapper being available and progress made by the Mayowa, Irving etc.

If Jaylon is added then that is a major upgrade.

Draft a CB and a SS with premium picks and choose the right guys and you have made major upgrades to the secondary.

I expect the defense to be upgraded at all 3 levels and I think we will see a ton of improvement.
We are most likely losing solid starters through free agency. So if this happens then should we really say it's a major fail if our defense isn't upgraded when you are counting on rookies (we don't have premium draft picks this year). I don't count on second or third round picks to play superior enough to Carr, Church, or Mo to make our defense suddenly an upgrade.

We need to be realistic with the position we are in.

Draft day shocker. Dallas keeps Romo and trades Dak to Browns for three first round picks. Would you do it? knowing Myles Garrett is now a Cowboy?

I will stick to guns on T Will, I think he's over rated and will be over paid, Butler isn't a 3 but he could hurt defenses if we can grab a decent WR threat( he doesn't even have to produce a lot, just give the d something to think about) and keep pounding the rock.

same crap every year. jerry and Stephen jones still do not value a top ranked defense. I guess he is thinking that if we have a great offense we can outscore our own defense to win games. that works in the regular season but in the playoffs defense wins championships.
Well....I wouldn't say Atlanta had that good of a defense

Every time you think this FO has reached the depths of their stupidity, they surprise you

Watch them "believe" the Lawrence and tapper and Smith will be all they need to upgrade the front 7 when not one of them can even be counted on to stay healthy

Rinse and repeat with these idiots

I fear this is exactly what they're thinking.

My prediction is Cordalle Patterson and one of our top 3 picks at receiver.

Patterson could be an epic failure as a wr2 so you spend a good pick on a receiver as wel. Patterson would at least give us a return unit to fear and hooking him up with his college head coach(our WR coach) would give him the best shot at becoming a legitimate wide receiver.

Definitely talking about CB and WR.

If we simply maintain what we are on defense then that is a major fail.

I am not convinced that is 100 percent accurate. If Jaylon and Tapper are players and healthy it is the equivalent of adding an entire draft class to your defense.

I believe we just have too many bodies to invest too much. We have room for maybe 3 bodies, at least two of those should be rookies, I predict Ware will be the other one.

I hate it but free agency doesn't offer a lot of solutions this year substantially better than what we have already. Without looking, you're not going to find a lot of bodies under 30 that have exceeded Lawrence or Mayowa's best sack total and if they are out there, they will be massively overpaid.

These are just excuses and nothing more
We didn't spend on defense last year because we had a "beast" in Lawrence and bodies lol. Any one of the 3 the Giants signed would start here and bake a difference

Then we go and draft tapper in the latter half of the draft expecting a miracle as usual

This year we again have bodies when we don't need bodies, we need difference makers at DT, DE, MLB and safety to be a good defense. We will be lucky to find one of those in the draft

Like I said, rinse and repeat like we have for the last decade

This isn't true at all...

Steelers scored at will on us
Skins scored at will in the 2H on us on Thanksgiving

They let the hapless 49ers quickly go up 14-0. I mean it's not even relatively close that this defense is horrible.

I think FO thinks DE value is bad in FA and only Perry left. So they hopefully will at least get a better WR2 instead of TWill and a better CB than Carr or Mo. They could then trade up to get a DE from #28.
