The Cowboys need a Free Agent DE next season

I think DE is our #1 target in FA. Picking in the mid-late 20's there usually isn't a blue-chip edge rusher that's going to come in and produce Year 1 like we need him to next year.

It really makes too much sense that a deal will get done with one "good" DE this offseason. It allows you so much more flexibility going into the draft.

Also, if you decline to pick up Melton's option, that money could be allocated to DE and you'd probably still save some cash. There's a few DT's available late round 1, early round 2 that I think could come in and play the 3 in this scheme. Gaining edge pressure, getting a young/talented interior pass rusher to hopefully build around, for the cost of Melton's option and a 1-2 rounder sounds like a win/win to me.

I agree with most of your post.

I don't, however, think the team needs to invest a 1st or 2nd on an under tackle.

Tyrone Crawford is our man there and we already have a handful of players who will compete for the reserve spots. They are Davon Coleman, Chris Whaley, Jack Crawford, Terrell McClain and Amobi Okoye.

More options will be added, but I don't feel UT needs a 1st or 2nd investment.

I can see your point. Just my opinion that we should be 2 deep at UT in this scheme to account for snap rotation and insurance. If Crawford goes down for any reason you're looking at quite possibly the worst UT depth in the NFL, and while those names are nice in theory, their floor is a little low for my tastes.

If i'm building a DL, i'm finding any way I can to add talent and pressure. The draft falls as it may, but if a talented UT falls to my 1-2 rounder I'm snatching him up, regardless of the smorgasboard of names currently on the list. That's just my opinion, though.

Jason Pierre Paul of all of those guys. He might not break the bank since he doesn't really get sacks, but he's a force against the run and has the ability to be a disruptive pass rusher. Let he and Tyron Smith go at each for a full off-season and we'll have two monsters.

JPP is a real talent.

The cheap defensive line signings had more to do with lack of funds, in my opinion. Yeah, I know some people claim cap space is meaningless.

No. It had to do with not spending $ on guys who were late in their careers.

Spencer's another year removed from surgery. Mincey was just getting acclimated to the scheme. Lawrence is like a new draft pick. Selvie was hurt all year.

Wait for it and Go Cowboys.

I agree with this and a early draft pick.

Hardy might be arrested and in jail for a long time by next season.

Avril is done and has checked out in Seattle. He will be looking for his last pay day so pass.

Hughes is intriguing and being from close to dallas might be an option but he is a RFA so it will cost a draft pick. Also the Bills Dline is 2nd best in the NFL. Playing with Mario and Dareus helps alot. He will be looking for a big pay day So I would pass too.

Houston will get franchised or resigns.

JPP hasn't been any better the last 2 years than what we have now. Pass

Keep what we have and just deaft.

Sign Jerry Hughes just because he is an ex TCU Horned Frog.
He's a RFA not a UFA. Big difference. The bills will tender him atleast a 2nd round tender. I'm not e I'll ing to give up a 3rd round pick plus big money to a guy that plays on the same line as Mario and Dareus

I'm not a big JPP fan.

Best talent out of all of these names but he turns it off from time to time. Doesn't utilize a full arsenal of moves, either. It's always either beat the guy outside or straight bull-rush.

When he falls off, he's going to FALL OFF.

Would rather not pay a guy like that what his freakish ability would command.

If they follow the same asinine blueprint as this past offseason, Jones and Co. sign a cheap no-talent and claim success just like they did with the Mincey signing.
