This will be the first sign that things might be changing.

If they truly are thinking they might spend a bit more and rethink how they use FA, getting Parsons signed soon is a big part of that. You can lower his 2025 cap hit giving you more cap flexibility which can help you.

Or they do what they did with Lamb and Dak, claim cap poor in March, April, May, June, July then sign Parsons in August where his cap savings just rolls over and doesn't actually help the team get better.

IMO this is good situation for both Micah Parson and Jerry Jones. For Parsons he is going to get paid and very likely be the highest paid D player in NFL history at the time.

For Jerry Jones this very contract will keep him in the media every news cycle for much if not all the off season. He loves the attention. It feeds his ego.

Both will ultimately get what they want and need.

Yes, but I also want us to get Kinlaw from the Jets. The sooner we can get Micah's deal done, the sooner we can get him and fill our NT needs.

Parsons cap hit next year is nothing compared to Daks. As it stands right now, Dak is set to count 90M against the 2025 cap.

He has one season left on his rookie contract. You resign him to a 5 year extension. After 4 of the 6 seasons if he’s starting to show signs of wearing down you trade him for a 1st and 3rd to a team that thinks they’re a pass rusher away.
You don’t trade a generational pass rusher during the prime of his career. The raiders should have taught us all that by now!

Nah, if Jerry isn't willing to step down as GM then nothing else will change.

Given the news of Myles Garrett wanting a trade breaking today, the Cowboys need to make a decision on Micah Parsons soon. I learned on the Pat McAfee Show today that Garrett has not got much guaranteed money on his contract remaining. If the Browns do not trade him, he will probably be extended to a massive deal. If he gets traded, he's going to command a lot of money.

This puts the ball in Jerry's court with Parsons. I think that the Cowboys need to decide what they want to do with Micah Parsons. If we are going to extend Parsons, then we need to do that ASAP while it's cheaper to do so. I don't want to go through another offseason where they are waiting until training camp to extend him like Dak and Lamb. The sooner we do it, the more money we can save. Additionally, the language of the contract could free up cap space, so that's another good reason to do it soon.

Alternatively, if they want to move on from Parsons, they should be floating Parsons out for trade deals before the draft so we can get as many picks as possible. Like Garrett with the Browns if they trade him, we would likely get a haul for Parsons.

In either case, the Joneses need to make a decision soon on Parsons. Either option is correct as far as I am concerned, provides that it's done before the draft and is done before something is done with Garrett.
Can we stop acting like they won't resign him

Since 2000, only six defensive players made the Pro Bowl every season in their first four years in the league.

In other words, they were selected as one of the very best every year for the length of their rookie contract.

The other five, Patrick Willis, Brian Urlacher, Aaron Donald, Patrick Peterson and Clay Mathews played for their original team at least ten seasons. If their teams had thoughts of trading them at the peak of their careers, the GM would probably have to leave town.

Every team's goal during the draft is to find that special player, that generational talent, that can make a profound difference in the success of that team.

What is the logic of trading Micah Parsons? We trade Parsons for a bunch of draft picks in the hope that we might be fortunate enough to draft someone like.....Micah Parsons?

Another Cowboys player has the same distinction on offense. Zack Martin made the Pro Bowl every season in his first four years. Do you know what Martin and Parsons also have in common?

Jerry didn't want either of them. In both cases he wanted someone else. He had to "settle" for these two. Jerry wanted Johnny Manziel but faced unified opposition from just about everyone else within the organization. He grudgingly accepted Zack Martin but continued to voice his disappointment.

In 2021 Jerry wanted one of two CB's and they were taken just in front of the Cowboys, so the Cowboys took Parsons.

In both cases, these elite players were not targeted by a shrewd, talented GM, gifted in the art of player evaluation, They were consolation prizes, the players that Jerry would have happily skipped over for another in order to enhance his nightmare tenure as GM.

I am not in favor of trading Parsons for the opportunity to acquire a couple of Mazi's, Taco's, and busts to be named later.

Whichever decision the Cowboys make needs to be done soon. My point by mentioning Garrett was that he's going to want a new contract along with TJ Watt. So, the sooner the Cowboys make a decision and act on it, the more money the team can save.

When the last time we have got anything better than a what a 5th or 6th rounder for someone we traded for a pick in return.

Stephen will wait. I agree that now is the time to extend parsons if that is what they want to do to a team friendly deal but no stephen will wait untill they have no choice but to pay him what he wants.

Yup, and all the while the new price will likely be $38 mil by the time Garrett and TJ get their new contracts.

How much would a “team friendly deal” be in regard to Parsons?

Lol,
When was the last time we traded a generational pass rusher?
It won't happen. Jerry and Co loves their guys. They will give them a bad contract and then when the player starts to decline we end up stuck with them where we trade them for peanuts or release them.
