The Cowboys need to make a decision on Micah Parsons soon

What's the current top contract for a DE? He may want something like watts deal. Also depends on guarantees and structure. Micah has said he doesn't have to be paid the most so it really just depends. I'm not paying 30+ regardless
Do you think he should be paid as much as other NFL players that play his position and are as productive as he is? Or should he accept an amount that lesser skilled DE’s are paid?

On one hand, I get that, but I also don't want him ending up in Philly, KC, or Washington.

Micah can ask for the moon, that's what he pays agents for. I think the cowboys should practice restraint and come up with a good number but not the max. If he's accept the same deal watt got them it's a huge win. But if he just wants the most ever then they need to try and trade him now to get the most picks.

Hard to compare QB to DE/LB in this context because it might make more sense to give a QB a long deal than it does the DE/LB. Whatever the case it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out and just how sincere Parsons is.
Actually, an extremely quick (25 year old) DE, could covert back to a SAM or a MLB as he ages, whereas the aging QB becomes an aging drain on resources.
First point is that by accepting a longer contract it allows for restructuring, whereas in Daks case the bill is paid in full in 2029 (so won't be extensively restructured outside of 2025 and 2026).
Second point, which never came about in the Dak negotiation is that Micah has said publically, is that the contract needs to be linked to being successful and roster building.
We can question sincerity, but it's a good starting point as opposed to a 4 year 60m per.

This will be the first sign that things might be changing.

If they truly are thinking they might spend a bit more and rethink how they use FA, getting Parsons signed soon is a big part of that. You can lower his 2025 cap hit giving you more cap flexibility which can help you.

Or they do what they did with Lamb and Dak, claim cap poor in March, April, May, June, July then sign Parsons in August where his cap savings just rolls over and doesn't actually help the team get better.
They are cap broke.

Dak, Martin, the void contracts, Steele, Gallup, CD, and Micah.

all very expensive.

He has one season left on his rookie contract. You resign him to a 5 year extension. After 4 of the 6 seasons if he’s starting to show signs of wearing down you trade him for a 1st and 3rd to a team that thinks they’re a pass rusher away.
You don’t trade a generational pass rusher during the prime of his career. The raiders should have taught us all that by now!
This is what happened to Niland back in the day.

Parsons gonna get paid.

Dallas paid him 17M over 4 seasons.

hes due now. 2nd contracts are for the players.

If I was Parsons I would say get rid of Dak and trade up and draft a QB or I want out!
Jerry would try and use that 5th year option and I would hope Parsons refuse to show up until he is traded.

I'm fine with trading him. Either decision should be made and executed by the start of the new league year.
Even Jerry see's the juxtaposition of extending Dak and trading Micah.
The father irony is that a Micah trade, would presumably be to a team that's competing. Therefore any 1st Rd pick would be end of day one = not expected to realistically be a factor than 2026. Add in the knock on effect on the rest of the defensive front 7, our only competitive games in 2025 would be the Giants.

Given the news of Myles Garrett wanting a trade breaking today, the Cowboys need to make a decision on Micah Parsons soon. I learned on the Pat McAfee Show today that Garrett has not got much guaranteed money on his contract remaining. If the Browns do not trade him, he will probably be extended to a massive deal. If he gets traded, he's going to command a lot of money.

This puts the ball in Jerry's court with Parsons. I think that the Cowboys need to decide what they want to do with Micah Parsons. If we are going to extend Parsons, then we need to do that ASAP while it's cheaper to do so. I don't want to go through another offseason where they are waiting until training camp to extend him like Dak and Lamb. The sooner we do it, the more money we can save. Additionally, the language of the contract could free up cap space, so that's another good reason to do it soon.

Alternatively, if they want to move on from Parsons, they should be floating Parsons out for trade deals before the draft so we can get as many picks as possible. Like Garrett with the Browns if they trade him, we would likely get a haul for Parsons.

In either case, the Joneses need to make a decision soon on Parsons. Either option is correct as far as I am concerned, provides that it's done before the draft and is done before something is done with Garrett.
Right or wrong, that decision is already made. Jerry will sign Parsons to a top of the market deal....no question about it. There's no way we are trading for Garrett or any other high priced DE. The team will go with Parsons, Kneeland, Williams, hopefully resign Golston to a moderate deal, and then do what they've been doing with veteran pass rush depth.

I don't expect or even really care about Dallas signing A-list free agents like DE Garrett or WR Higgins. I don't think we are that player away from greatness; it's much worse. However, I want to see Dallas be a little more active with B-list veteran free agents, maybe sign a LB, a DT, a backup QB, maybe a CB. We need to be freed up in the draft to take the impact players who available on the first two days of the draft at WR, RB, DT.

I have a feeling the Jones' are going to wait to the last possible minute to sign him It's their way, unfortunately. I'm hoping they will break that cycle and actually sign Micah very soon. We'll see.
They will stretch it out to keep the team in the news. That’s all Jerry cares about. It will be a distraction and I wonder how Parsons will behave. What a mess.

it's all scripted, they want him to act like he's mad, he'll unfollow them on social media platforms, act like he's mad, he'll say some bad things about the team, and right before the game he gets paid!!!!!!!!
