I think it should be players only, and FWIW, I think Landry would agree!

Man it's just sickening over here with all the Jerry Jones hate, sickening. why don't some of you grow a set and go root for the Bidwell's for goodness sake. Every thread here for the last few years ends up a freakin' Jerry Jones bash.Really? a guy creates an entertaining thread in the off season and people turn it into jokes about Jerry, unreal. this place really has become a waist of time. Anyone notice some of the more valuable posters missing? There's a reason for it and this thread exemplifies it to a tee. :bang2:

Let's add some clarification here.

Landry and Staubach are slam dunks.

Lilly almost has to be next but certainly not out of the Rushmore 4.

So it's Landry, Staubach, Lilly and one of the following:

Emmitt, Aikman and Schram.

Tough choice here, but I'm going with Emmitt in the Teddy Roosevelt spot.

I agree with most:

Landry
Lilly
Staubach
Emmitt

One person who hasn't been honorably mentioned is Erik Williams. I know he doesn't belong, especially after the knee injury. But before the knee injury, Erik Williams was one of the most dominant OL to ever play the game. I remember Irvin saying Erik Williams, before the injury, was the best player in the NFL.

:lmao: At the people that dont understand how dominant Lilly was. Not only his place Cowboy history, but one of the 50 greatest in NFL history. Nothing else needs to be said.

He was no doubt, he would be next up, I would say the next four after Landry, schram, staubach, and emmitt would be this

Lily
Troy
Jimmy Johnson

Good list, but for the Giants I would put Wellington Mara and Parcells on there, over simms and strahan.

Simms and Strahan are not on my list. I have Tim Mara (not the son), Steve Owen (he was the HC for the Giants who was the HC when Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry both started coaching, won 2 championships), Frank Gifford and Lawrence Taylor.

mount rushmore is just not big enough. we need a whole mountain range to list all the super stars who have played here and any list of 5 or so is almost impossible to narrow down to

My bad, read the wrong thing. I am curious as to why you would put tim in over wellington?

Yeah.... Giants, Washington, Pittsburgh, Chiefs, Oakland, Bears, Colts and 9ers are all like that as well.

Yep ... the older teams with a history of winning ... hard to pick just 4 players. Some of the newer teams ... noone really stands out. Like Jacksonville.

Well, he was one of the original 5 franchise owners, he built the Giants from scratch (wasn't already done for him), it was the only 1 of the original 5 franchises that survived the modernization of the NFL, he had controlling interest in the Giants until 1991, when he sold out to Bob Tisch. Of the 8 Championships that were won by the Giants, 6 of them happened under Tim Mara's watch. More HOFers under his watch, I just think he is a more significant part of the History of the NFL then was Wellington. Wellington was a heck of an owner as well but most of it was in place when he got it. John is not his father and not even an oil stain on his grandfathers shoes IMO. The one guy I would have liked to have included on the Giants list was George Marshall, who I thought was one of the greatest people in the History of the NFL and was so very important to the Cowboys franchise as well, but I just didn't think he was more important then the 4 listed.

Can there be a Larry Allen statue looking over the Mt. Rushmore?

No mention of Barry. Barry Switzer is the last coach to lead them to a SB victory.

Well, as you may know, there are Big Ole Bears wondering around South Dakota so yeah, anything is possible.

Interesting, I have to agree with everything that you said, I just put wellington in there, because he did a lot to insure the success of the league.

Landry
Staubach
Lilly
Schram

Landry, Schram, and Lilly were there from the beginning, and Staubach is the iconic player of the franchise.

The success of the franchise was built on the foundation of these four.
