Landry, Staubach are easy choices.

The other two should:

Bob Lilly - Mr. Cowboy
Emmitt - all time leading rusher in NFL history, 3 time SB champion

these are the men I would chose. aikman needs to be with them.

mount rushmore is just not big enough. we need a whole mountain range to list all the super stars who have played here and any list of 5 or so is almost impossible to narrow down to

Landry, Staubach, Emmitt, Lilly. There really shouldn't be any question.

Landry
Lilly
Staubach
Smith

This feels fairly cut and dried to me.

Tom Landry- no brainer. Coached from 1960 till 1988, so many consecutive playoff appearences. we could change the logo from a star to his hat and people would likely be okay with that.

Roger Staubach- another no brainer. the original captain comeback and the, on the field leader of the 70s Cowboys.

Bob Lilly- Any Cowboys fan above a certain age will include him, and while I'm below that age, I included him anyway. First Cowboys draft pick, first pro-bowler and the first Hall of Famer who was a Cowboy their entire career. For this reason, he's a must.

Emmitt Smith- All time leading rusher and the catalyst of the 90s Cowboys team that won 3 SBs in 4 years.

1. Landry - I think if the franchise starts with a different head coach. History is rewritten less favorably to what has become.

2. Staubach - He just MADE IT HAPPEN. Period.

3. Emmitt - He just MADE IT HAPPEN. Bum shoulder and all.

Love Troy but Garrett stepped in and had SAME SUCCESS.

4. Jimmy Johnson - He had us OWNING TEAMS/ OWNING the 90's

These 4 pieces were crucial to the success of their times.

was doug williams that good with Tampa? only 2 out of 5 seasons were years where he had more TDs than INTs.

John Lynch or Tony Dungy would've been better choices.

I'd agree with Erod. The four would be Aikman, Landry, Staubach, Emmitt.

I can see why some would pick Bob Lilly, but in my opinion Lilly is simply not as well-known.

If not for the way he handled the Landry situation, Jerry would have to be included.
Tom
Roger
Emmitt
Jimmy

No last names even needed.

After reading through this thread and seeing all of the past names, great players and coaches, and remembering those unforgettable times, .. I realize all that is left of the Dallas Cowboys that I fell in love with as a boy decades ago is the Blue Star.

Sad.

I also think it is foolish to try and pick just four from our history, .. why?
