The Dallas Cowboys Defensive Depth Chart After Two OTA Practices

I wouldn't be surprised, and they carry 26 on D (like they did in 2014) or dump one of the fringe linemen (like Moore, say).

I can't see any of those LB'ers or DB's not making the squad.

We'll get to carry an extra player for a quarter of the season, too, Irv
5 CB's and 4 S's

Ideally:

Taco RDE Tank LDE Collins 3T Thornton 1T

Lee WIL Jaylon MIKE Wilson SLB

Brown and Awuzie outside CB
OScan slot

Heath SS
Jones FS

I'm wild-carding Awuzie as the starting safety alongside Jones. If we run a true Cover-2, the safeties are really more important than the corners. I would start Scandrick and either Brown/Carroll at corner and move Scandrick to the slot in the nickel. Lewis could work himself into that mix as well, especially if Scandrick proves that he's no further along in his recovery than he was last year (or that's who he is now), Carroll shows that his 2016 form is who he is now or Brown takes a step back.

At safety, I just don't see Heath being able to handle the starting role. I think he's a good subpackage player but will get attacked as the starter, especially if we use more Cover-2.

Scandrick cannot play outside. We saw that last season and it failed. If you move Awuzie to SS then Lewis plays opposite Brown, imo. OScan stays in the slot where he is above-average. Once he moved back to the slot, his play picked up as the year went along and he readjusted to playing ball.

I'm wary of Carroll. I need to see him play well before I buy in to him. Ironically -- with some of these rooks who haven't taken a snap yet -- I'm more comfortable with them than I am with Carroll :)

Good post, Gimme, well shall see. I have a little faith in Heath, I've been sold by a lot of his advocates here. I was reluctant at first, but I think he's got a shot.

I think some folks are sleeping on Lotuleilei and Wacha at linebacker.

One of those two will make the team.

There's a ton of competition, and they can't all make the team... it'll be a fun training camp if some of these guys emerge, Tass

I agree with what you say was just wondering. I think we keep White, he has huge upside and once we drafted Woods I think Blanton better make plays or we go with the younger guys.

Some don't like Frazier but he might be the best SS on the team right now. Secondary will be great watching and we will have to cut a decent player

Many are still sleeping on Heath. All he did was make plays when give the opportunity. At some point that has to be rewarded with more snaps.

I forget the exact total, but he played like 1/4 of the snaps and made more impact plays than some starters.

Marquez White will make the roster
I think White makes it also. Carrol is the db that I think may have a tough time fitting in. It's easier to fix mistakes that rookies are prone to make than fixing a veteran who may not be very coachable. That said I think we go with 10 dbs. We have a lot of interchangeable players and all can dress for ST.

I clicked the link and what do I see? the "others" list might as well be called "guys holding the water bucket for the 3rd stringers before they, themselves get cut"

DL: Lenny Jones (family member?), Dick Ash, Woody Baron, Lewis Neal....sounds like names that the writer put in because he had to fill up space

I think it comes down to Carroll or Scandrick......I'm leaning more towards Scandrick getting the boot

Rotating on DE -- Irving, Tapper, Crawford, Mayowa, Moore

Rotating at DT -- Irving, Crawford, Paea (1T)

Depth at LB -- Hitch, Nacho, Wilber

Pushing for starter at CB -- Lewis. Depth -- Carroll

Depth at SS -- Frazier (or Blanton if he splashes in camp/preseason)

Depth at FS -- Woods (who may push, yet to be seen, Dave :))
This is perfect except given 100% health at CB I see Carroll starting and Awuzie pushing him for that spot and taking it by mid season, not because I think Carroll won't play well, I think Awuzie will just be better.

Also I have a feeling we end up signing Daryl Washington and if that happens say goodbye to one of those LBs for depth.
