This team died when Jimmy Johnson left the building and took all the football competence with him.
It didn't completely die. The life expectancy just shortened. Dallas still got 2 straight NFC title game appearances and another ring after Jimmy left, but because of the roster Jimmy built. Even the year after the Super Bowl season, Dallas got to the divisional round next year and had Irvin not got hurt, might get to another NFC title game. Doubt they beat GB the next week but who knows. But the triplets slowly started to get older Jerry's fingerprints on the draft started to come about and a huge mess was created.

A front office that has no idea how to seek out a franchise QB is a problem. Since we drafted Aikman in 1989, what is the last QB we drafted with the expectancy he would be the guy, Quincy Carter? Lol. That's very bad. They had zero plan after Aikman and in between him and Romo, it was as big of a black hole you can imagine. And Romo would have been cut if Quincy didn't get arrested. We were rolling with the corpses of Testaverde and Bledsoe in those days. Romo wasn't even drafted. Dak was drafted to be Romo's backup for years to finish his career. They fell into these QBs now that have almost spanned 20 years.

This is all hindsight, though. And absolutely zero guarantee if Jerry didn't come here, Dallas has any success. No fanbase is trading away 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. I mean, I get your sentiment but would never trade away those 3 rings. I lived through those moments and it was a glorious time for the fans who lived through it. I get if you are a younger fan and either not alive or have no knowledge of that time, then sure. It's why you need to enjoy it when you can because no guarantee you will ever get back to it. And be glad Dallas took advantage when they got there in the 90s. Could be like the Vikings or Bills. Lost them all and have never gotten back there in a time span longer than Dallas' drought, especially the Vikings.

Yesterday's loss was terrible but is nothing more than footnote in the grand scheme of things. The season will go on like normal. If the GB playoff loss didn't produce any real changes, this won't either.
Good post... I feel sorry for the guys born after the Jimmy years as Cowboy fans. They won't ever experience how great that felt!!!

this is over dramatic, they had bad years before (early 60s, late 80s, early 2000's) They are not dead. We are in for a bad stretch but dead is silly

This is as low as it gets since the Campo 5-11 years. At least with the worst of the Wade and Garrett years, there was still some hope that a new coach could come in and fix things. There is no hope now...the GM has no plan, we are stuck with Dak, and if their drafting starts becoming the league average then they won't even have the one advantage that kept them going for the last 10 years anymore.

Absolutely. I think about my younger cousins born 1997 and after. All they know personally of Dallas Cowboys is mediocrity. And probably wonder why they are so popular.

I give Jerry zero credit for hiring Switzer and getting to a super and NFC title game. That was Jimmy's team and was player lead team once he left. They could have parked a golden retriever on the sideline, stuck a head set on it, and done just as well.

1960-2024 RIP.........The Dallas Cowboys officially died October 13th,2024....from repeated hits from the Detroit Lions and 1,000 cuts every season from owner/GM Jerry Jones. I'm sorry to have to post this but it is what it is. We were taking a butt kicking and what did I see on the sidelines. Micah and CeeDee with other players relaxing and talking laughing as if they were at a spa. Never saw one player angry-throwing helmets-nothing. The team at this point could care less. And I think it started way back in the Spring with IDIOT JONES! He asked the reporter last night "do you think I'm an idiot"? Well Jerry-thanks for asking "hell yea" I think you're an idiot! You play around with signing your best two players. You knew all along you were going to do it. But to keep Jerry in the spotlight you drag it on to keep" likes" coming in like a little self-centered girl on social media. Then he lies to his gullible fanbase we "all in" coming this season. In all honesty I think the team has quit on Jerry. I think the team has had enough of him. Then he has the nerve to say after the azzzkicking "I feel sorry for the fans"  As I have said before I'd trade all those 90 Super Bowls if Jerry Jones never came to Dallas and had kept his old idiot butt in Arkansas. Enough talk about the "idiot". He asked me do I think he's an Idiot and that was the number one answer on the board " yes we do-Jerry". Then let's go to Dak and CeeDee. these two been together for 5 years and you'd swear they never played one down with one and other. Dak throws left-CeeDee runs right. Dak throws a post -CeeDee runs a curl. Unbelievable. And as Woody said on ESPN. This defense is paper soft-cotton candy soft. They let the Lions run plays at them we ran in the backyard back in the day. No respect at all. They intentionally ran plays to clown us. And not one of our players did anything about it. Whether football related or personal foul related. Disrespectful on any level. This was clowning an opponent-beyond clowning. Throwing to Olinemen. Running Olinemen on fake reverses . And my team just bent over and took it with a smile. Man. I been a Dallas Cowboy fan through thick and thin, but this is on a whole other level. I'm ashamed to even wear our colors. I'm ashamed to even say they are my team. These guys don't even deserve to even wear the star. It's bye week and these guys are waving bye to the season already and planning their off season as the game was still being played. I still can't get over seeing them on the sideline having a good time as this was happening, I can't really blame McCarthy-he's another Jerry butt kisser. I have no faith in Zimmer. It's Nolan all over again. But the saddest part of all this is I really don't see it getting any better for years to come. Jerry is going to hire the same butt kissing type coaches. He's going to continue not making off season moves to strengthen the team. He's going to continue to believe he's the most important aspect of the team. And he's going to keep lying to a gullible fanbase. After the buttkicking...I wish I could print what I really want to say here....who was the first guy the media talked to? McCarthy-Zimmer? Players??? No.........it was the "idiot" Yet, Cowboy fans wonder why yesterday happened....................Better get ready for many yesterdays to come..... P>S> forgot to mention every year training camp in Happy Valley USA California. If I were coaching that would be the first thing I'd cut out. But glamor GIRL, Jerry. Would never let that happen..... Texas heat fully padded...
I don't normally read the long posts, but this was worth it.

I agree with that but the team didn't totally die immediately once Jimmy left. They still won another ring. But yes, it was because of the Jimmy's blueprint he built. I am not saying Jerry or Switzer get any real credit for 1994 and 1995.

I am also very disappoint my team did not respond to the nonsense plays Detroit was running with the clear intention of embarrassing Dallas. I cannot imagine the Jimmy Johnson Cowboys taking that from anyone. I am pretty sure any team with heart would have been fired up and hitting everyone as hard as they could to respond. But a team with heart would never had let the game get that far out of hand to begin with.

After this season, after they Cowboys suffer about 6 or 7 of these games including a blowout by Dan Quinn's Commanders, the psyche of this team will be destroyed. The only remedy will be to dismantle the roster and start over with new coaches and players.

I completely agree with your well thought out and written post except for one thing. Your mention of Happy Valley is an unintended slight in my Alma mater, Penn State the work and play in the only truly Happy Valley. You should have instead said Valley of the Dolls, California, USA.

They won't tear it down now. Not after the Dak and Lamb extensions. The time to tear it down was this offseason. Don't extend Dak or Lamb. Take trade offers for all 3 and see what shakes out. It's what Houston did when they looked to be building a core of JJ Watt/Watson/Hopkins around 2019. All of a sudden, they have none of those players and at the time, it looked to be a disaster because they were a choke job away from the AFC Championship game with that roster. And now look at them. Building a really good team for the future. Although, this can change because 2016 Dallas looked to be building a great time. But Stroud doesn't have a sophomore slump and they have a lot of offensive weapons.

But tearing it down is too much work for the Jones family because this means having to find players for replacement. They would rather just extend the 'known' where it's comfortable for them.

I missed the game yesterday repairing a pasture fence. By the looks of things on here, maybe it was a blessing. I don't believe I've ever seen fellow Cowboy fans so riled up.

Perhaps Reality should put up some polls to see who needs to go the most?

Lucky for you -you didn't see the game. Think of the worst beating in any sports. You'll have an idea of what happened yesterday. This beating ...IMHO...was worse than the first Super Bowl beating Dallas put on Buffalo. We at least didn't clown them as we were kicking their A's.....
