The defense will be better with Zeke

Who was the TE on those teams? While Witten is here he will get the bulk of the looks that "could" go to a RB, provided Garrett and Linehan were creative enough to do it.

The greatest show on turf had the best WR corps I've ever seen. Holt, Bruce, Proehl, and Az-Hakim were 4 receivers that nobody could matchup with and Faulk still managed to get a ton of catches.

We have Dez, Witten, and a lot of disappointment. Not to mention our OC coached those guys.

Really, I thought you knew more about football than just stats.

So a team decides to focus on taking away the run, now you have a better passing day. A team decides to focus on stopping the pass, guess what happens.

I think people get irked when you say things like "What I have stated repeatedly is that the success of the running game, generally speaking, has very little effect on whether you win or lose. Whatever effects the running game has on the passing game can be had no matter how well or how poorly you run the ball. All of that is borne out by the facts."

The running game does have a large effect. You just can't measure it or find it in a stat that correlates directly to winning so you dismiss it.

If you cannot measure it then how do you know it is large in of itself or in comparison to anything? The fact that it's correlation coefficient is measurable means it can be measured and it's not as good as you feel.

Less back brain. More front brain please.

After doing a little research, I saw a stat that said NFL teams win 75% of the games they play when they have a rusher to run over 100 yards. The Cowboys had an unbelievable record when Dmmitt ran for over 100 yards. Exactly how does that fit in with your stats about the running game not being a factor in winning.?

Teams that are already winning have the luxury of running the ball in the fourth quarter and increasing their total rushing yardage, including the total yardage for individual players.

Teams that are losing usually have to abandon the pass, so they don't get to tack on those late yards, which reduces their totals and often prevents individuals from reaching that 100-yard mark.

All that stat does is mistake cause and effect.

Adam I respect you and agree with you about 95% of the time since we've been on this board. But the bolded above is just flat out wrong.

No, it's not. If it is significant, it would affect the outcome of the game. The whole purpose of playing is to win the game. If it doesn't help us win, then I don't care about it.

But Witten is Romo's guy. You think he's going to throw it to some rookie wide out and not to Witten?

To me, this was the most laughable line of the weekend. And to hear people buy that garbage is even more funny.

Now certainly keeping the defense off the field with a great run game is helping the team.

Its just another head scratching way for the Cowboys brass to justify ANOTHER offensive player with ANOTHER first round pick.

Taking an offensive player helps improve the defense? :lmao2:

Now I will agree it helps HIDE the defense, but it doesn't do squat to improve that side of the ball.

Fans need to wrap their head around one thing and one thing only. We will NEVER win a championship until this defense improves dramatically. Sure we can make the playoffs and have some winning seasons. And unless we spend some big money in FA over the next few years, I don't see it happening.

Is he going to play Defensive End?

Scientists can not fully measure how gravity works, but yet it does. Black holes exist and we don't know how or why. Particles change their course of action based on observation alone, and we don't know why. Shall I continue or should I tone it down and focus on the complexities of why running the ball is important?

The greatest show on turf featured a HOF back in Faulk who put up 2740 rushing yards and 25 rushing TD's during the Rams back to back SB seasons. He also accounted for 13 receiving TD's those 2 seasons. Faulk being such a threat in the running game helped open up the passing game and made the Rams nearly impossible to defend with Warner who was on fire. Proehl and Az-Hakim were products of Kurt Warner and his ability to find receivers.

They were perfect compliments to Bruce and Holt in that system. When you have a big threat at RB with a system in place to take advantage of the talent you have on offense along with a QB who's lighting it up it's a recipe for explosiveness. Twill isn't consistent but he does show up in big games, is clutch and does score TD's. He does have to start being more consistent or eventually the Cowboys will look to replace him. They obviously still have confidence in him because they didn't draft a receiver.

That's sad then.....

It's a game. I don't care what they think, really. It's a good time kill and I love a debate. Bigger issues in the world to get sad about than whether a few stat guys don't believe in the importance of running the football.

There are tons of thing that are significant to the outcome of a football game that there are no stats for.

You thing Lawrence Taylors ability to Intimidate plays a factor in the game?
Do you think the THREAT of a Great Running attack has an effect on the game?

He is a slow accelerator. Just like Dayne.

I would have agreed with you until I saw his numbers. Henry did show his faults though. He is really slow in making his cuts and his footwork was a joke compared to Zeke. Henry has not lateral cut ability either. He is just made to plow straight ahead.

You were saying Witten precludes another receiver getting touches. You've surrendered that argument and moved the goalposts. Other than claiming stats without correlation and waving your hands you have no basis for your claims of the running game's effectiveness.

Just the same with their confidence in TWill. I like how you gloss over him disappearing for half a season two years in a row. Clutch players show up.

I love how you gloss over all of the facts that Adam has presented over the years and just repeat yourself.

Well it's just like a closer in Baseball. Guess their stats are a luxury too huh?

I mean other than this being completely false....

Not slow in the sense like Dayne.

The better way to state it is that he seems indecisive. He doesn't hit it up in there like Zeke does. His size is less of a factor because he doesn't plant his foot and go from the backfield. Now, if a hole is blown wide open , or once he finds a hole and takes off (there were a lot of them at Alabama), he's a load.

Holes like that aren't as common in the NFL, even behind this line.

What are you talking about? Newton quantified the gravitational constant and the squared topology centuries ago and Einstein's gravitational mechanics have been empirically proven time and again.

We know why blackholes exist. Our understanding of quantum forces explain with a high sigma what goes on. That is a far cry from repeating your take without basis over and over again.

That's the better way to state it. He doesn't have the vision that Zeke does, so he's indecisive. But if you blow a hole open, he is a freight train moving fast.
