Sorry folks.. I’m normally optimistic, but I’ve become very pessimistic with our defense.
I don’t see any easy answers this year, so this will be be routinely exploited by better QBs like Brady and Rodgers.
This is partly due to our decimated Corner situation. Opponents have resorted to getting the ball out quickly out of respect of our pass rushers. Unfortunately, this lends its hand to the opposing offense well.
Those teams that are smart enough to get their passes out quickly (I.e.- Tom Brady) to avoid our pass rush, they will find success because our secondary isn’t playing at the level they were earlier in the year when coverage was good enough to allow our rushers to get home.
Diggs will be fine albeit the occasional mistimed jump routes; Bland has stepped up admirably, yet has been move to the outside out of necessity and has limited his big play ability that he found success with at the slot.. those two are the only players we can reasonably trust. Outside of those two.. Wright isn’t ready and is constantly beat during routes.. and Joseph just needs to be cut. He’s a bust and one of the biggest disappointments. He wet the bed in what should have been a golden opportunity to secure a starting spot. He can’t even stop being penalized on ST’s. That said, I have my fingers crossed that recently signed Mackensie Alexander and Trayvon Mullen can come to the rescue to bring stability, but I’m not counting on it. To quote Mickey, they were available late in the season for a reason, right?
Our (my) only hope is that our defense can continue to get turnovers (which is asking a lot in the playoffs).
The pressure was on the defense early in the season, and they rose to the top. Now.. this team will be involved in shoot outs, so the Offense has to carry the burden.
They can definitely prevail, but that’s even more pressure on Daks shoulders. I’m “Old School”, I believe defenses win Championships. Of course the Offense has to score, but in close games.. the defense has to be able make stops. Or in this case.. turnovers.
