The draft may be the only option (backup QB)

Looking back at last year, the free agent QB market was a disaster which is why the Cowboys didn't feel the need to upgrade from Weeden. Judging solely on the QB's that hit the market (as in not resigning with their current teams) and not including players that wanted a chance to start...the cream of crop according to Walterfootball would have been Shaun Hill (http://BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1/freeagents2015QB.php)

So as you see, that was a horrible free agency class and this years may not be that much better.

The two options most wildly considered would be RGIII and Colt McCoy. I believe RGIII will sign somewhere to start and the Commanders will want to keep McCoy around as their backup and McCoy was loyal to them last offseason so this is a realistic scenario. If that happens...how can we upgrade our QB spot through free agency? Truthfully, there aren't going to be many, if any, options better than Kellen Moore. The most attractive names are going to want a chance to start or resign with their current teams.

If free agency shakes out as I am predicting...how can you not take a QB at 4? Unless you feel Moore is the answer which I do not, I don't see how you can pass considering we may be relying on this player right away to win us games.

Now up until a couple weeks ago, I was completely against a QB at 4 until I looked at it from that prospective. If free agency turns out like last year and we pass on a QB at 4...we have a real shot to go into 2016 without upgrading the QB position.

More and more, I'm thinking that JJ goes with Moore as the primary backup and drafts a QB after the first round (perhaps the second round, but likely later than that)...they'll grab a player for immediate impact at pick four. I don't know much about much, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I still think that we can go backup QB in the later rounds in the draft. That doesn't mean that I don't want Wentz or Goff at 4. Just sayin'.

Colt McCoy is the only option, IMO, if Dallas decides to go the vet QB route. Their best option, though, is still the draft.

I do think he may very well resign with Washington, if that case...the draft is not only the best option but the only option.

Not saying I agree or disagree with it, but I think the back-up QB position is Moore's to lose whether we draft someone or not. He's a smart kid with a good enough arm who proved he could lead the offense when given the keys. He needs to cut the mistakes a little bit and he'll never be an elite guy, but I think he's built a comfort level in the staff.

Don't believe all the talking heads say we will not pursue Manziel.

I am convinced we will sign him immediately when he is cut.

We just have to continue with the pretense we will not want him so we don't make the Browns think they can get a trade for him out of us.

Additionally we can't talk about it as he is still with the Browns.

We also want other teams to think we are looking at QB to boost teams who may want to trade with us to move up.

You watch.

Remember I said this.

There may be more after decisions on Foles, Bradford, McCown, Hoyer, Fitzgerald and others.

There will be some options for competition with Moore. I like the idea of Chase Daniel if he becomes available.
He's from the Dallas area and probably like to come home and compete with Moore. There will be options guys just
be patient.

Weren't there rumors about the Eagles coach loving him and wanting to bring him in? He may be tough to get.

I still think Glennon represents a good target if they move on from Moore.

Yeah Chase Daniels is going to be an Eagle.

As I said, a lot of the attractive targets sign to a place with a little insecurity associated with their starting QB. These guys want to play and have a shot at a big payday. If Prospect has to pick between sitting behind Tony Romo or Brian Hoyer...who do they pick?

I really wish people would understand the fact Fitzgerald is not leaving the Jets for the privilege to be Romo's backup.

Please get that idiotic design out of your mind.

Please keep your insults inside your mouth.

Fitzgerald is no icon. He is just a guy that wants a paycheck.

If it comes from NY or DAL he doesn't care.

Fitzpatrick is starting next year. They guy threw for over 30 touchdowns last year, he is not going to sit behind Romo when there are teams that will pay him more to start.

I try looking at it from the perspective that Jones surely has. He wants to win a Super Bowl with Romo. He gets hurt we suck again and continue to load up. That way when we do get a chance to get a top prospect in a draft there's a good team in place. Also, very attractive to free agent QB's. Our defense didn't create turnovers like last year. I want focus on defense FA/draft. Can't force a QB. We need a player like Cravens, Jack, or Ramsey.

He is 33 and a journeyman.

He will go wherever someone pays him.

The Jets haven't rushed to re-sign him.

And he is just a guy on a list. You guys get your panties in a bunch over the littlest thing.

Remember I said this.

A week ago I not only would have congratulated you, mate, but also co-signed that post re Manziel being signed immediately by the Cowboys.
But now I hear the Dallas PD is opening up an investigation into Manziel's alleged actions against his girlfriend. And the victim having a ruptured ear drum.
It is beginning to look as if he might be tied up in legalities for a while.
But being the optimist that I am (really, I am) I still think Sir Jerry wants manziel, bad. And Manziel would love to play for his childhood dream team. And Manziel has the skill set and evasive nature (like Tony) that can drive the safeties crazy.

The intriguing thing about Manziel is that if we sign him (lay down the pitchforks, lads!) that lessens the pressure on our No. 4 draft pick to take a Goff or that Wentz fellow. I see that as a twofer.

Time will tell. I just know Sir Jerry has a thing for Johnny.
