You have to talk to Dak about that and he ain't sharing no damn pie!
Who did this team go out and sign when Dak was here cheap on his rookie contract? Guys like Cedric Thornton.

Let's stop pretending this team breaks the bank for free agents when they can, because they haven't done it since 2012 with Brandon Carr. To use Dak's contract is a lazy excuse and the one the Jones Boys want you to believe.

The Cowboys could have extended Dak, restructured Diggs, and got Lamb's deal done this offseason and opened up up to $40 million of cap space. They chose not to. They create their own cap problems and then blame the cap.

Deuce was able to make people miss in college. In the NFL, not so much. It is definitely on Vaughn as well.
Have you watched his tape the few times he played last year? He hardly had any blocking. I doubt even the best RBs would make enough tackles miss to consistently gain positive yards.

I will say it again, the problem isn't Deuce. The problem is this stinking Oline and their Oline coach who failed at improving the Oline in run blocking.

Like last year?
Not sure about anyone else but I posted numerous times he would make the team last year. I said no way is Jerry cutting him after making such a big deal about drafting him. Everyone got emotional talking about his father being a scout for the team. It was too much of a feel good story to end with him being cut just a few months later. However, this year is a different story. They couldn’t find a role for him last season, which caused him to be inactive for some games. If they can’t find a role for him this year he’s gone. The fact we lost Pollard and didn’t draft a back will give him a chance this summer. The new KO rule will give him a chance. They’ve been using him as a receiver in OTA’s to try and find a niche for him. Our RB situation is so dismal it could keep him around one more season.

He and Turpin are a good addition to the passing game...neither were in the first round of a draft.

The news of Dues McAllister being tried out as a slot-receiver is a big indicator that he won't make the roster this year.
To become a WR, he needs to change his workout routine and body. Having never played WR before, it's unlikely he can make the adjustment at an acceptable NFL level.
It was obvious watching him last season that he is just too small to play RB in the NFL, even as a gadget out of the backfield catch and run RB.
He get's pulled down will extreme ease by NFL Dliners and LB's.
Sproles was small too but he was able to demonstrate his value as a receiving RB and returner. Duece lacks what Sproles had.
Drafting him was a great story but he just has no place in the NFL.
Since last year I've been saying that Deuce needed to become a receiving threat to have a future in the NFL.

By eyeball and by good sense, I think he has a chance to be a good one. Very natural pass catcher, and his quickness, acceleration, and low center of gravity should allow him to get reliable separation.

Don't know why you think having to change his body is some issue, or why he can't be much of what Sproles was. He likely does need to change his body. I'd say get *stronger*. Closer to Sproles. And that's what you expect with any player coming to the NFL. They'll get stronger after their rookie season. They *all* need to do that, and usually do.

We've had all sorts of guys sent back for returns who hadn't done it before. At least he's a RB and is accustomed to taking a hit, and can *run*.

This is what he needed to do. The obvious path for Deuce.

The biggest problem for Deuce is how Turpin broke out in the offense and was effective both running and catching. And still a good returner. Not much room for Deuce in those rolls while Turpin is killing it.

I think you're mistaking what is happening to Deuce. They're not trying to remake him into a Cole Beasley clone. They're trying to *add* to his skillset some route running from the slot. Which *obviously* makes sense for him.

""It was one of those things that we had kind of talked about at the end of the season last year"

Eh. We're the worst. It was the obvious thing to do with Deuce from Day 1. So we wasted a year of Deuce's development. At least they didn't have him lose 30 lbs. We're the worst.

I agree with most of what you said, KJJ, but I don't believe the Cowboys are trying to find a niche for him in the passing game now since he failed in the running game last year. Fix the Oline and have them consistently win their battles while opening up some holes, Deuce could definitely perform much better.

Nah. PS again. And likely again after that. Got two more years of Turpin.
Obvious that Deuce needed to develop as a receiver if he wanted a role in the NFL. Too bad they wasted his first year by not starting him on route running when he first got here. We're the worst.
Maybe in two more years he's ready when Turpin is a free agent.
Just develop the guy.

Because they didn't try. That's the most frustrating thing. Deuce should have kicked Big Mike in the shin for his mistreatment last year.

He wasn’t on the practice squad last season.
Yeah, I wasn't sure. I thought it was obvious he should have been.

If they had listened to me he would have spent last year on the PS learning how to run routes and putting on more weight. When I'm King, things will be different.

He got 23 carries that’s more than most rookie 6th round picks get that have two backs ahead of them. Especially when most of their carries are for losses. Just like I keep saying he has to make the most of his opportunities. They’re not going use him in the running game if he keeps putting us behind the chains with negative carries. Make all the excuses you want but he only averaged 1.7. That’s not going to earn him more opportunities.

I dont think the guy lacks talent. It's just that this team cannot/ will not be creative in utilizing unique players. They will not put him in situations to succeed, thus will get tired of lack of production and cut him. It would be the best thing that could happen to him.
