He got 23 carries that’s more than most rookie 6th round picks get that have two backs ahead of them. Especially when most of their carries are for losses. Just like I keep saying he has to make the most of his opportunities. They’re not going use him in the running game if he keeps putting us behind the chains with negative carries. Make all the excuses you want but he only averaged 1.7. That’s not going to earn him more opportunities.
It's not an excuse. Show us a RB who consistently gains positive yards with no blocking in front of him.

The news of Dues McAllister being tried out as a slot-receiver is a big indicator that he won't make the roster this year.
To become a WR, he needs to change his workout routine and body. Having never played WR before, it's unlikely he can make the adjustment at an acceptable NFL level.
It was obvious watching him last season that he is just too small to play RB in the NFL, even as a gadget out of the backfield catch and run RB.
He get's pulled down will extreme ease by NFL Dliners and LB's.
Sproles was small too but he was able to demonstrate his value as a receiving RB and returner. Duece lacks what Sproles had.
Drafting him was a great story but he just has no place in the NFL.
I wish he was Duece...

Since last year I've been saying that Deuce needed to become a receiving threat to have a future in the NFL.

By eyeball and by good sense, I think he has a chance to be a good one. Very natural pass catcher, and his quickness, acceleration, and low center of gravity should allow him to get reliable separation.

Don't know why you think having to change his body is some issue, or why he can't be much of what Sproles was. He likely does need to change his body. I'd say get *stronger*. Closer to Sproles. And that's what you expect with any player coming to the NFL. They'll get stronger after their rookie season. They *all* need to do that, and usually do.

We've had all sorts of guys sent back for returns who hadn't done it before. At least he's a RB and is accustomed to taking a hit, and can *run*.

This is what he needed to do. The obvious path for Deuce.

The biggest problem for Deuce is how Turpin broke out in the offense and was effective both running and catching. And still a good returner. Not much room for Deuce in those rolls while Turpin is killing it.

I think you're mistaking what is happening to Deuce. They're not trying to remake him into a Cole Beasley clone. They're trying to *add* to his skillset some route running from the slot. Which *obviously* makes sense for him.

Cowboys RB Deuce Vaughn Says He's Getting Reps at Slot WR: 'Just Adds Another Value'
<tried to link a Bleacher Report article, but it keeps getting changed to a MEDIA link>
""It was one of those things that we had kind of talked about at the end of the season last year"

Eh. We're the worst. It was the obvious thing to do with Deuce from Day 1. So we wasted a year of Deuce's development. At least they didn't have him lose 30 lbs. We're the worst.
Ain't it amazing how we as fans of the Cowboys ,could see the need to get Duece in the short passing game.So he could create plays out of the slot ,and motioned out of the backfield. But yet McCarthy is just now thinking about it.

They thought about it last season. He caught 7 passes but with Pollard and Dowdle ahead of him he wasn’t going to get much of an opportunity. Pollard was our big play back plus he was being paid a lot of money on the tag so he was going to be utilized heavily.

Predicting that Vaughn gets cut is hardly a shock

He needs to show something this preseason. The fact that he was a draft pick isn't going to extend his stay this time

He knows this. We'll see what happens but he should look forward to an opportunity in scouting should his playing days end.

Have you watched his tape the few times he played last year? He hardly had any blocking. I doubt even the best RBs would make enough tackles miss to consistently gain positive yards.

I will say it again, the problem isn't Deuce. The problem is this stinking Oline and their Oline coach who failed at improving the Oline in run blocking.

It is not an either or situation. He did get one on one opportunities in relative space and was not making people miss. I get the blocking was bad a lot of the time but he brought nothing to the table either.

Duece Vaughn had the most receptions than any RB in his draft class...

McCarthy has often had RB play slot WR and WR play RB...Green Bay...

Show video of such 1-on-1s where Deuce did not make tacklers miss.

Or what? I turn into a pumpkin? I do like being asked to prove a negative. If you want to see video of Vaughn getting tackled that is not hard to do but I would have to show every single snap in order to prove your negative.

I prefer to look at it another way. Great backs of Vaughn's type make people miss. I am thinking players like Sayers and Sproles. Now if Vaughn juked anyone out like he did on the regular at KSU, it would make a highlight.

I cannot find such a highlight of Vaughn in the NFL regular season. Can you?

There is tape of Vaughn making tackles miss. Like this...

And this...

So, where is your tape(s) of Deuce not making tacklers miss when 1-on-1? Don't need lip service. Show us some video proof.

It's hilarious how people mention him being "too small" when he had success in college football.... Division one college football.

It's not like he played in some junior college league in the middle of "nowhere America". This man played against big college players that have and will be drafted into the NFL and played very well against them.

You have it completely backwards. They have to put him in a position to be his best. They didn't. He got hit at or behind the line so often of course his YPC is going to be low. They didn't call anything special for him. Just go in there and run a few plays. That isn't how you use Deuce. It's not just being dumb. It's being dumb and stupid on Big Mikes part.

I don't care if he got 5 or 50 carries. If he isn't be used right, it's just not going to matter and it's a wasted down. If he puts the Cowboys behind the chains, blame Big Mike not Deuce. It's not making excuses. It's just being realistic. Was he misused? Yes. End of story.

First, I said regular season not preseason 2nd half film.

Second, the second video saw him get the edge untouched and run straight into the S. He made no one miss.
