The End of Escobar

Pretty furious at the lack of effort to involve Escobar into this system. Escobar is now coming off an ACL injury, so my guess is not only does he miss the entire offseason program, he probably misses the first half of the season next year, and even then probably doesn't evolve beyond what he has done so far.

You can't just blame the player, they did the same thing with Martellus Bennett and he flourished in New York and Chicago, becoming one of the most dominant tight ends in the NFL. I would argue that right now he is probably a superior player, as he is a better blocker than Witten.

Fasano, and Chandler have also had relatively successful careers outside of Dallas as well.

We simply never focused on getting that second tight end involved, and knowing that we weren't going to do that, we kept spending 2nd round picks on them.

Imagine the players we could have brought in, in the 2nd round instead of these tight ends... and no this is not hindsight. This goes to a complete lack of vision by the front office and coaching staff.

So true.

I would love to see a two-TE system that would keep the opposing LBs and safeties closer to the line. Romo likes the intermediate passing game (good for his personal stats, you see) and that in turn would open up more opportunities -- maybe single coverage defenses -- for our WRs.

As for Escobar, he's young. I look for him to be ready for the real camp.

Maybe I'm dead wrong but, I thought he tore an Achilles...That's a long...long road back if true.

Apologies, I thought it was an ACL, but you're right either way, it's a long road. And either way it spells a definite end of his time here in Dallas. Someone will take a flier on him as their starter in 2017.

100 percent agree. And yet, Garrett is the common denominator. He was here under Wade, hes been here since. Its disgusting how good our offense could be with some creativity.

No way he is ready for camp. I would be stunned.

actually Parcells was the one who came out with the 2 TE's to cause mismatches, first when he had a very young Witten and Campbell. When Campbell left he brought in Fasano, who was used more as an H-Back than TE. Garrett came in and gifted our 2nd round TE and a starting LB to the Dolphins for a 4th rounder. Garrett selected Bennett in the 2nd round, never created a single mismatch, let Bennett walk and selected Escobar. No TE mismatches have been created ever since.

Narcos on Netflix is a hellava show...

When does season 2 come out? Have you watched "F is for Family"? Bill Burr, the comedian, is the voice of the father. I'm excited about the return of Orange is the New Black.

Oh, and football.

Parcells was on the right track. The 2TE system is potent when used properly. It's Garrett who has never been able to implement it properly.

When Witten decides to retire{or god forbid seriously injured} this team is going to be caught with its pants down......again.

Actually, I think that is when the team will see its offense open up drastically.

Any one of these tight ends over the year could have been more dynamic than Witten. The guy is just entirely too slow, but as a result of his relationship with Romo, you see him depend on him entirely too much.

Scouts are saying there are only 6 "complete" TEs in the league now. Witten and his 3 yard routes is one of em. Position not being produced out of college like they used to be. Wouldnt put Escobar out by the curb just yet.

"Complete" tight end is a lie in its own title.

I'd much rather have a dynamic player who opens up the offense than someone who can stay in and block, but doesn't open the offense as much.

Witten isn't a slouch, but you can get guys in who are definitely bigger receiving threats.

GB, you seem to love to create these threads...
the shark jumping ones.

I agree Escobar has been underutilized but the dude was seriously injured.
A very weird time to crow about it.

And why are we writing his eulogy?
Makes zero sense.

Do you think Escobar re-signs with the Cowboys to be a TE2? Does that make any sense to you? His last year as a Cowboy will be rehabbing his injury.

He'll sign a one year deal somewhere else on a team that needs a starting tight end of his abilities.

The thing is, the Cowboys dont develop players like they used too. Most other teams developed their players and you have to have a good coaching staff that knows how. We dont have that kind of coaching staff. We only rely on players who are drafted high, who have exceptional athletic ability (if were lucky and hit in later rounds). We also have Jimmy Johnson syndrome or at least Jerry does. Since Jimmy was able to find talent all over the draft rounds and from small colleges he thinks its easy and he can do the same. It hasn't worked. Just sayin...
