Wouldn't put Escobar out by the curb just yet.
I wouldn't either. Look at the Bears who let Olsen go and do they rue the day for that. They never used him properly their. Martz tried to make him fit his scheme and not the other way around. Escobar has never ever been used to his strengths and abilities since he's been here. Came out of college with the rep of having good hands but lacking on blocking ability. So that means while working on his blocking skillset he should have been running seam routes or catching the bleeping ball more often. I love Jason Witten for his toughness, team first mentality and all the years that he has sacrificed his body to the Cowboys but their comes a time when everybody has to be replaced. It's just a fact not a wish on my part. Garrett has to wise up and start to understand this. I hope Escobar makes it back but I think it's unfair for anyone to label him a bust as he hasn't been used properly here. A wasted pick thus far I'll say yes to that. Since we could have went with another need position like cb or safety or even a pass rusher in round two.

That was perhaps too strong a word, wasn't it chap? Maybe "casting doubts" would have been a better choice of words as to the gridiron lad Escobar.
I stand partly corrected, bloke!
And, if I may say so, and I will, you continue to do a wonderful job as a mod, old fellow.

I like Escobar and I don't think they have worked him into the offense as they should have. However, we aren't there and so there may be problems we aren't aware of that are reducing his snaps. I personally think some of Witten's snaps should go to others but there may be a reason for it.

I don't think the Bears regret letting Olsen go his first 3 seasons in Carolina were on par with his production in Chicago. Marty B's first 2 seasons in Chicago were more productive than any season Olsen spent with the Bears and Bennett was productive this season until he was injured. Olsen is a good TE but with Steve Smith's departure and the Panthers losing Kelvin Benjamin their #1 receiver prior to the season Olsen has been targeted a lot. He has 33 more catches than Ted Ginn the Panthers leading WR. Olsen has really started to benefit from the development of Cam Newton who's currently the most dynamic player in the game. During most of Olsen's stay in Chicago they had QB issues and he only played with Cutler 2 seasons and he hasn't exactly been a model of consistency.

Since 1980 there has been 70 TE's drafted in the 3rd round including Witten. Their average number of seasons as a starter is 2.4.

There is a difference between being a good talent evaluator and being a prophet. I have no problem drafting these 2nd rounders so long as they were the best players available. My problem was letting them ride off into the sunset without acquiring some type of value through a trade. I just don't unmderstand the mentality to not even try to trade off excess talent at a particular level.

What kind of nonsense is this?

Why are you a cook? LOL

He has bad posture, doenst look very athletic, not much muscle tone or definition. Does not have a strong stature or appearance. Obviously not a big deal in performance obviously, but it might be part of the problems affecting him in older age.

You know, honestly, I read a lot of things that I either agree with or disagree with. The hard part is to not let it get too personal. This is getting a bit too personal. Step back and take a break.

I hope he's reading this and using it for tackle fuel.

What's key is his rapport with Romo. Romo would throw him the ball. If he comes back healthy then I can see where he can continue to develop.

I refuse to be prejudiced against second round TE. It's irrational. I refuse to blame or fault the receivers in the middle of the field. Weeden and Cassel were both afraid to pull the trigger over the middle where mistakes are made. I find it interesting that Bease gets a pass.

People have their favorites and give them passes to make all the mistakes they want. Then others they pick a player and trash him no matter if he plays decent or not

Do you think Escobar re-signs with the Cowboys to be a TE2? Does that make any sense to you? His last year as a Cowboy will be rehabbing his injury.

He'll sign a one year deal somewhere else on a team that needs a starting tight end of his abilities.

watch him go to Pats and be the Gronk complement just like Hernandez was

That wouldn't surprise me the Pats turned Danny Amendola a player the Cowboys cut into a key contributor. Despite missing 2 games this season Amendola was the Pats second leading receiver in 2015 with 65 catches for 648 yards and 3 TD's plus he had an 82 yard punt return. Amendola's 65 catches was more than Cole Beasley and Twill produced and he was only 12 catches behind Witten who was the Cowboys leading receiver in 2015.

Amendola's receiving stats are pretty impressive when you consider he's playing alongside Gronk and Edelman. He was the talk of Cowboys mini camps a few years ago but for some reason he wasn't good enough for a Cowboys team that just sat home for the playoffs for the 5th time in 6 years.

Given the Cowboys QB play this year that isn't saying much.

Hard to use the Cowboys QB situation as an excuse when they used 2 veterans that had won over 35 games between them. Weeden started and lost 4 games for the Cowboys during his career in Dallas and after he was cut he caught on with Houston and won his only start with the team tossing 2 TD's with a passer rating of 116.7. Matt Cassel won 11 games in NE when he was still an inexperienced QB because he was on a solid well coached team. Belichick used a 2nd round pick on Gronk and he's become the most dominate player in the league at his position. When Belichick needed a compliment for him he didn't use a premium draft pick he used a 4th rounder on Hernandez. The Cowboys have thrown away three #2's on TEs in an attempt to compliment Witten and none have produced due the offensive scheme and the lack of opportunity. Marty B became a productive TE with the Bears putting up 90 catches for over 900 yards and 6 TD's in 2014 with an up and down Jay Cutler and Jimmy Clausen.

Anthony Fasano became a serviceable TE for several teams once he left Dallas putting up almost 3100 yards and 33 TD's. Escobar will likely be a productive player once he moves on from this dysfunctional team that has no clue how to get the most out of the talent they have. In 2010 Amendola led the Rams in receiving with 85 catches for 689 yards despite having a rookie Sam Bradford as his QB. He had 32 catches more than the Rams second leading receiver. Laurent Robinson was 5th in receiving for the Rams that season and he was a receiver who in his one season in Dallas was productive under Romo. Amendola would have ended up being a terrific player in Dallas but he never got the opportunity despite the potential he showed.

Dwayne Harris never got much of an opportunity at receiver in Dallas but put up 36 catches for almost 400 yards with the Giants this season and helped beat the Cowboys with a 100 yard KO return for a TD. He also had an 80 yard punt return for a TD while the Cowboys return game has suffered since he left. Both Harris and Andre Holmes another receiver who never got an opportunity in Dallas both scored more TD's this season than Dez Bryant...OUCH!!! Below is a thread that was started in May of 08 with some mini camp observations of Amendola. He was abusing Mike Jenkins one of our two first round picks that year and since then Amendola has become a solid player and Jenkins didn't.

3) Amendola shines: I know Timmy already addressed this, but there was a whole lot to like about Danny Amendola (and not just because I wrote about him this morning). He runs sharp, precise routes, gets in and out of his breaks quickly, and knows how to set up a DB. Plus, he didn't drop a ball. It's worth noting that Jenkins couldn't stop him once in one-on-ones, at least in the three instances I say the two match up.

Pretty furious at the lack of effort to involve Escobar into this system. Escobar is now coming off an ACL injury, so my guess is not only does he miss the entire offseason program, he probably misses the first half of the season next year, and even then probably doesn't evolve beyond what he has done so far.

You can't just blame the player, they did the same thing with Martellus Bennett and he flourished in New York and Chicago, becoming one of the most dominant tight ends in the NFL. I would argue that right now he is probably a superior player, as he is a better blocker than Witten.

Fasano, and Chandler have also had relatively successful careers outside of Dallas as well.

We simply never focused on getting that second tight end involved, and knowing that we weren't going to do that, we kept spending 2nd round picks on them.

Imagine the players we could have brought in, in the 2nd round instead of these tight ends... and no this is not hindsight. This goes to a complete lack of vision by the front office and coaching staff.

Did you just catch up on Narcos?

Get ready for another early round TE while we're all focused on DL, CB, RB, etc. Eventually we'll need a starter to replace Witten, but using high picks on a #2 TE has been beyond dumb.

Would you be upset if we grabbed Hunter Henry if he's there in the second?
