You are assuming that our two choice in life are Mike Nolan or Dan Quinn and that somehow no other defensive coach exists who can do what Quinn does.
Nolan is an example of the type of hire that can be made that would have a negative impact on the defense.

Quinn has developed a great relationship with his players. It would take a new DC time to get to the same level that Quinn has right now. And I don't believe this team can afford that time.

By the way, I used to think like this. That if we gave Prescott a really good OL and really good WRs, he'd be fine. But I no longer think that's true. He does things, in big games (not all, but enough) that have zero to do with the talent on the field around him. Talent, or lack thereof, wasn't the reason he stupidly tried to force a ball into double coverage late in the first half. It wasn't lack of offensive talent that forced him to make another bad decision on the first interception. It wasn't lack of talent that forced him to completely miss Greenlaw late and almost throw yet another pick 6. It wasn't lack of offensive talent when he completely missed a wide open Ty Hilton for a potential TD. It wasn't a lack of offensive talent around him when he has Gallup breaking wide open and he throws the ball 4 yards behind him.

At this point though, we have no other options. Dak's contract is tough to get out from for a few years. So we are left with hoping he either just improves as a 7 year vet OR that maybe if he gets enough talent around him, he can steer them beyond where they have stagnated.
Right there with you.
I was never all in on Dak, but never hated on him either, maybe 60 / 40 or 55 / 45 going into the 2020 season. And most of that 60% for was because he is our QB, root for him, not against him.

So I was giving him the 2020 season to decide which way to go. Than the broken foot. So to the 2021 season, my timeline moved back. He was looking great, then the calf injury, then RB and OL injuries.
so I figured, ok, he tailed off in the 2nd half of the season.

So, enter 2022, now I am thinking to myself, am I just making excuses, but will keep it to myself. And decided to give him this season.
Totally unimpressed except for 2 games, Minnesota and TB playoff game, but not totally down on him either. Then again Cooper Rush was impressive in his wins as he outperformed fans expectations.
After yesterday, along with some other 2nd half of the season games. I just can't take the picks...too costly. Yesterdays game was horrible and on Dak.

I am done with him.
I will still root for him as he will be our QB, but can't trust him, nor will defend him anymore. I defended to those that constantly hated on him since he was our QB. And mostly just to be a contrarian against them. But not anymore. I won't constantly hate on him, but sure won't defend him either.

I’m not trying to be a jerk and this isn’t some sort of gotcha question.

If you really feel that way, and it crosses my mind, then how or why do you continue to deal with it? Like, what makes it worth it?
Not sure but this is the lowest I've been on the cowboys future in a while. I'll never stop being a fan.

When this team finally realizes it needs a true NFL caliber front office then we can expect real change. In the mean time get accustomed to hearing how philly has the best front office in the NFL.

There’s a lot to be optimistic about. The Cowboys have a strong core of players and have numerous ways to lower their salary cap. It’s obvious the weakness is the wide receivers. Outside of Cee Dee, they have no one. Not sure what’s up with Gallup but he was just lost out there. I gave him a pass early because he was coming back from injury. But that play where Dak threw an interception, he looked like he didn’t know what to do on that route. So they definitely need to spend some capitol on a high end WR in free agency.

Zeke is done. I wouldn’t want him back at anything more than the league minimum.

Dak was awful during this game. They’re not going to make it deep in the playoffs with that kind of play. He needs better options around him at WR and he needs to stop forcing it to try to win the games single handedly. I think another top end WR will allow that to happen. But he’s got to do his part and quit thinking he’s Mahomes. He’s not. But they can win with him I have no doubt.

It’s also time to spend some capitol on defensive lineman. Hankins played great but he’s just a stop gap. When Watkins is your best DL, then you know you’re in trouble.

CB is another area that needs addressed. Diggs is solid although he doesn’t like to tackle like Prime didn’t. Bland is solid and Mukuamu has a chance. But they need depth and they have no one.

They should resign LVE. I think he had his best year. Just from a fan perspective I’d like them to play Micah at LB more. Just to help extend his career and also to take advantage of his speed.

They’ll probably have a new DC and OC as well as other coaches. They need to hit a home run here with their replacements.

So there’s reasons to be optimistic. I for one am. I will always have hope and never give up.

That’s good that’s fine that is not going to take us to the Super Bowl. We can’t get rid of DAK but we can draft

Yep. Contrary to the beliefs of some of the homers, I never hated Dak. I have always said he's a decent/good QB, but he's not a great one. But we are in Year 7 with him and honestly, he is what he is. I just don't think at this point, regardless of what or who you surround him with, that he's going to be consistent enough to take this team much further than they have already gone. And unfortunately, when you factor in the cap, he has to be a difference maker at that cap number and he's not.

A team can move forward with a different core plan though. You as a fan can recognize that Dak has hit his ceiling (division round), and the team’s immediate plans should be to move on as quickly as possible from Dak to another QB.

Gallup ran a stop route to the sideline and the cornerback read the route and jumped it. That route is one of Dak’s favorite routes to throw to. The secondary including linebackers were jumping lots of Dak’s favorite routes yesterday. He was all over the place with the ball too (imprecise and behind receivers). There were plays to be made-Gallup was very open on the deep post. Saw Hilton open on another. Lamb would have scored on the sideline pass play if the timing was better and not underthrown. I can agree that they could use more weapons on offense, but that was not why the team lost yesterday.

I think with building around this current core you can see more good to very good regular season success. A defense like San Francisco’s is always waiting at this point in the playoffs. The offensive line did a fantastic job against the fierce SF defensive line. Making major changes is not giving up-just hoping to increase postseason success.

Zeke, Dak, Gallup, Diggs...these players need looked at for sure. If i can get good value on Diggs i trade him right now as I think Bland is going to be a great CB who will actually tackle.

I would get rid of all of them. Diggs had ball in chest and could not get pick. He was simply terrible this year from last. We now know that was a fluke.

I think many of us were waiting for your traditional "It wasn't Dak's fault but it was _____(fill in the blank) fault" thread.

PS

Watching a nuclear detonation is bright too but just like watching Dak it's not good for your eyes.

This post will take a lot of heat, but I salute your courage for injecting some positivity. There's a lot to feel good about in back to back 12 win seasons, but last night stings.
