The genius of Howie Roseman

One name that kept popping up though is Jeff Stoutland, their offensive line coach. Apparently the guy is good given how the Eagles offensive line has performed since he came to the eagles (been reading that a lot of players is giving this guy credit). Guess my only point is for any organization to be successful, you have to have good people in key coaching positions to grow the team and that it all just doesn't fall under the GM and ownership having a game plan acquiring and letting players go, but on the coaches they hire as well.
Stoutland is the best o-line coach in the game, and is also their run game coordinator. Kelce didn't become HoF-to-be Kelce until Stoutland showed up. Lane Johnson didn't make any PB/AP teams until Stoutland showed up. It was Stoutland that took Jordan Mailata from a guy that never played a down of American football in his life to a top tackle in the game. Evan Mathis was a JAG, goes to Philly, makes PB and AP teams, leaves Philly and is a JAG again. Stoutland tells Howie that he can turn Becton into a guard--home run. Cam Jurgens is a top-five center right now and made the PB quicker than Kelce. He is on the Kelce track right now. Landon Dickerson was a center in college, plugged in at guard from day one and is a stud. Andre Dillard couldn't live up to Stoutland's coaching. Dillard since then has been on two different teams since the Eagles cut him and is a JAG, so it's not Stoutland. Tyler Steen filled in a lot of snaps at guard against Washington and looks to be a future starter. Jason Peters has nothing but praise for Stoutland. If Becton leaves, Steen most likely steps in at guard, and once again the entire Philly o-line is home drafted and grown, coached by the same guy since the Chip Kelly days. Heck, Kelly getting Stoutland to go to Philly is by far the best thing Kelly did for that team.

Either you really know your football, or you're really and Eagles fan LMAO!

I never heard of the guy before (Stoutland).... Just read where some of the Eagles O linemen were talking about Stoutland which made me curious.

With all the turnover they’ve had at HC and OC I’m surprised to hear the same OL guy remained. Impressive.

Their line is great and didn’t have to invest 4-5 first rounders to get there.

I'm surprised you never heard of him! Even the talking heads on the various podcasts and network shows talk about him. I admit that I listen to far too many NFL podcasters. I wish we had him here. His track record speaks for itself. And since I was born in Philly and lived in South Jersey for decades before moving to Florida, I was bombed with Eagles talk for a long, long time. When Reid was the HC, Juan Castillo, his O-line coach, was my neighbor for seven years. I learned more about line play from him than I did while playing at Rutgers (LB, not OL). Coaching really matters. IMO, we fall short on both lines. We don't do a good job of making average players good players. We don't need stars at every position, but we need better than average. I really hope Beebe and Guyton develop quickly.

It can be done! Whether our front office can do it is another matter.

Watch the Eagles OL and you can see there is a dropoff at C. Kelce is a future HoF player. Jurgens is good but he is no Kelce. What makes the interior of the Eagles OL so strong is the guy playing LG. Dickerson is a beast. He is their version of Zack Martin in his prime. If you watch the Eagles run the tush push now notice how Hurts takes the snap and gets behind Dickerson. He used to go right behind Kelce.

But the point is still valid. They knew Kelce would be retiring soon, so they drafted Jurgens and took a year to groom him as Kelce's replacement. The Cowboys knew Martin would be retiring soon, or that his contract would be up. Who is his replacement? Bass? Hoffman? If it turns out to be Hoffman, it is luck, not planning.
They ran the push behind Dickerson and Mailata when Kelce was playing.
Jurgens is way ahead of where Kelce was early in his career. Not saying he’ll be as good in the long run but Kelce was a potential cut his second season.

If you look at all the SB participants from about 2016 forward, their GMs are masters of the cap. Guys like Roseman, Les Snead of the rams, Brett Veach of KC, Tampa Bay’s Jason Licht are just a few of the GMs who spend NOW and somehow are still able to compete down the road.

Front offices worried about “kicking the can down the road” are usually watching the SB at home. The Jones FO literally does not know how to manage the cap. Full stop. And that’s one of the biggest reasons for the last 3 decades.
I think once you create a winning culture, it lasts for a while and help the team win with less talent. That is the opposite of the Cowboys where they have a culture of not winning, even when they have more talent.

Roseman has done a masterful job with the Eagles accumulating talent and squeezing it all in under the CAP. But 2029 is when the Eagles have $178 million in prorated bonuses hitting in a voidable year. I am not predicting the Eagles demise, but I am curious to see how Roseman handles that while still fielding a winning team. Or, is that the year he blows it all up and starts again?

Stoutland is a legend. He founded Stoutland University. Where have you been?

Hurts will be 'threatened' by accepting an extension or being cut after the 2027 season, one enforce/dictate the other. Hurts takes the extension (on Roseman's terms) or he's cut....I'm sure this will lead to a mutually beneficial second contract (which I doubt includes a NTC).
The threats enough as history indicates Roseman will part ways.....when Jerry tried it, we know the ensuing mess.

Honestly if you have to sacrifice a year or two for multiple SB runs, that is what YOU SHOULD DO.

none of this BS participation trophy relevancy crap

Agreed. We forget the Eagles were 4-11-1 in 2020.

I think the Eagles absolutely trade Hurts before his contract is up. I think the Eagles are already planning for a replacement for Hurts. I also think they built a team that can win with another QB. They don't need a franchise MVP type. They won with Nick Foles. To me, their way is obviously the best way. If Dak was playing for the Eagles in 2023, I think there is no way the Eagles sign him to an extension. I certainly do not think they give Dak a no trade clause.

Yep, someone mentioned Hurts has a NTC, but cutting/threatening to cut him after 2027 saves $90m on their Cap.....Jalen if you want to come back, then here's the deal....a GM that's in control.

Defo and after we came up woefully short in 2023 on a roster that was, BY FAR, our most complete for a generation, that was the fork in the road. We took the worst take, middle of the road where we were never going to compete AND we lose out on a number of last year players who would of definitely enhanced this year's draft.

I have no clue what fantasy football is.

I have never bet on a sporting game on TV in my life.

I watch NFL games on Sunday and Mondays when I can watch the game on my TV.

The NFL doesn't pay me a penny for any interest I show in their games.

I feel like I waste enough of my free time watching football games on Sundays and Mondays because I like the sport.

If the NFL ceased to exist I think it would be a good thing because then I wouldn't have to waste my time on Sundays and Mondays watching their games.

THAT'S where I've been ;)

Been hearing about this “future” since before their SB win. Since then they have played in multiple NFCCGs and 3 SBs and we havent even won back to back playoff games
Cowboys go for consistent greatness. Eagles go for cyclical greatness.

Eagles have had similar downstrokes to the highs you are pointing out. Last year they were quitting on their HC and were brining him back. They have had to rebuild their OL and DL.

Thing is they get results while we get consistent mediocrity. Perhaps because of the lack of talent at GM we are unable to successfully leverage VFA like the Rams and Eagles have.

Greatness is competing for the SB. Not division titles.
anymore a division title and failure in the playoffs is like a participation trophy
those that call this greatness are losers
