The insanity of this FO

It was a scrimmage game in which most of the key starters on offense didn't even play. Are Dak and Elliott supposed to be embarrassed that the second and third and fourth teamers didn't play well?

And a total indictment of this coaching staffs inability to have players ready to perform, no matter who they are or where on the depth chart they fall. The Cowboys have for the past 15+ years made other team’s 2nd-4th strong players look like starters, all pros, and high draft picks.

So you are saying this team will never win another SB. Because there will always be someone named Jones involved with this team.
Sometime in the future, this sport will not exist anymore. Heck in 30 years it may not exist unless people like flag football with men and even women by that time.

And Goodell's grandson will still be looking at ways to Suspend Zeke's kids.
How are the Ford family doing with the Lions?
61 years and counting.
I could see the Jones family matching that :(

Yawn. Who cares. We have the salary cap space now to do it. Look at all the moves the Eagles made. I'm pretty sure their fans are glad their front office didn't think those guys wanted "too big of a contract".

Guess what, you have to pay players good money that are proven and can play. But our fanbase is so fascinated with salary cap space and draft picks that rarely pan out for us. Salary Cap Champions! Meanwhile we keep getting lapped by other teams in our division over the years. Giants have 2 Super Bowls and the Eagles got one. But hey, we like our guys...Giving out anything more than a thrift store contract is too scary...
The ones who care are the ones interested in winning a super bowl and understand that overpaying aging players is not the way that it gets done.

One player isn't. But he's not just one player, he's an added piece to what looks like an already good D. This would be a good time to load up and stack the D as much as we can while we're not paying Dak or Zeke real contracts.

Has a chance to make this defense an elite defense. You can win championships with elite defenses.

You’re saying it like Dak has no choice. He certainly does. It would be absolute insanity for Dak and his agent to let him play on a 1 year $700K deal next year. Very little chance it happens unless Dak is flat out bad, and in that case we will likely to be looking for a new franchise QB anyway

Well technically he can be forced to play on that, and fined over and over for holding out. I don't think Dak would do that though, from the type of person he seems to be. Most teams don't force that on them if they are playing well though, since you don't want ill will from players, especially if they are your QB.

But if Dak performs like last year, then I see no reason to give him a deal.

And again this is on Seattle and ET wanting too much. It is not on Jerry or the team.
what is so hard to understand about that. Giving up a high pick and a HUGE contract does not make a SB win.

Neither will the trash currently playing safety in Dallas. At least with ET you have a better chance and look like you care about winning. Fixing safety might allow them to turn their attention to other weaknesses and actually end up putting a team together that could get hot like philly did last year.

That's a different issue than this topic was about. In any case, the coaching staff wont have to get an offense full of 2nd teamers, 3rd teamers and practice squad players (and players who will be cut) ready to play in regular season games. My only real concern was how bad Rush looked.

Honestly, I wonder if the plan here isn't actually to win a SB but rather just stay competitive year in and year out. That keeps the money flowing in at a fairly consistent level.

If they happen to get lucky and make a run, so be it. But I wonder if they just want to make sure they can consistently spit out 8-9 wins and minimize the downside instead of trying to win in a certain window.
I don't think J&S Jones have the necessary skill to produce an SB winning team.

Frankly any success around here over the last 20+ years look like a happy accident rather than some well executed plan.

10 yrs ago. Jerry is all over this. Now when players are going down. Hes stalling. One extreame to other.

Ridiculous. This guy could have been in camp already. Stop BSing Jerah

10 years ago, eh? You mean like the crazy Roy Williams deal? That turned out well.

It really does.

And I still don't believe we like to run the ball, and go away from it every chance we get.

An aging Earl to whom you will have to pay a monstrous salary.

I'm thinking it might be the opposite.

You mean a top 3 in the entire league at a position Dallas currently is fielding a 3 headed dumpster fire? Gotcha.

I am not saying don't get him because of it. I rather they get him. I am just saying the reasons why it has not happened yet.
If they give a 2nd round pick and $12 million a year for 3 years. Hey do it, fantastic. The money or pick means nothing to me, it's not mine.
And I would feel so much better about our s's.

But don't knock me for stating the facts of the situation.

Conventional wisdom in the NFL says the absolute best time to compete and win titles is with a good QB on a rookie contract. We have that. This year and next. This is the time to strike. Yet Jerry and son are content to with the status quo. Content to roll out scrubs at safety instead of spending the $. The money saved on Dez’s contract pays for Earl. Earl makes this defense a top 5 unit. Who cares that we give up a third. A third rounder is what got us Chaz Green. Spend the damn money.

OMG! Get off the merry go round guys. We have Dak, Lawrence and others on the team to sign in the next couple of years. Why in this world
spend our money on an aging, declining safety who doesn't like to practice. Time to move on cause Jerry and Stephen have.

If Dak playes well, they are going to give him a huge contract
If Zeke plays well, he is getting a big new deal
If Gregory plays well, watch them be stupid and ink him a new deal.
Lawrence will need a deal...

What are we going to do? Give a 30 year old player a 5yr $60mil contract, and a signing bonus? So we can go back to the land of no cap space?

If a safety is the difference between us making the playoffs and not making the playoffs, we are screwed to start with.
