*** Do NOT Post Graphic Details From Trial Testimony! ***

Trial began on 5 June, most likely with motions, etc.

Today the first information was released on opening statements. Here are some excerpts from the attached article, which can be read in its entirety by clicking here -> http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/11/justice/pennsylvania-sandusky-trial/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Among other things, one of which I've posted below, the defense is alleging that Sandusky suffers from a histrionic personality disorder.

Sandusky has always maintained his innocence, Amendola said, saying his client's alleged victims had changed their stories and were questioned until authorities received the answers they wanted.

"A lot of people lied," Amendola said. Some of the alleged victims have civil attorneys, he noted, calling that unusual. Others, he said, have a financial interest in the case.

However, he said Mike McQueary, a former graduate student who said he saw what appeared to be Sandusky sexually assaulting a boy in a shower in Penn State's athletic facilities in 2002, did not necessarily lie. McQueary has said he assumed sex was occurring even though he did not see the actual act, Amendola said.

And this from the prosecution:

Prosecutor Joseph McGettigan spoke to jurors before Amendola, telling them, "You'll hear about systematic behavior by a serial predator. These were experiences that took place not over days, not over weeks, not over months ... but over years."

As McGettigan spoke Monday, childhood pictures of eight of the 10 alleged victims were shown on a projector screen, and the alleged victims were identified by their first names.
McGettigan described to the jury the extent of each victim's contact with Sandusky. Victim 4 received "a multitude of gifts" from Sandusky and accompanied him on trips to the Alamo Bowl and the Outback Bowl, the prosecutor said.

Feelings of humiliation, shame and fear, led to "years of silence" on the part of accusers, the prosecutor said.

I'll be watching this case very closely.

Some of Victim #4's testimony from court today can be found online.

I will not repost it, nor will I link to it, and I generally think the other mods will not allow it to be posted here.

It is disgusting.

didnt read the article, but how can his lawyer claim he has a "personality disorder" as his defense, but also contend that victims are lying?? seems like it should be one or the other, but not both. is he really saying, "these kids are lying and Jerry didn't do this, but he has a personality disorder???"

He probably won't assert any actual affirmative defense. Attempting to discredit the victims/witnesses as well as attempting to prove by a preponderance that Sandusky suffers from a personality disorder are all just general evidence to raise reasonable doubt in the jury that he's guilty of the allegations.

The only affirmative defenses that I am aware of as to child sex crimes is mistake of fact as to age, and marriage.

Why is there even a trial? This dude should be hung from a streetlight.

Because last we checked this is still America and you are afforded the right of a trial and the right to face your accusers.

You'll be able to tell what the verdict will be based on how long the jury deliberates.

They will deliberate for a while, though, because there are a lot of charges/counts, but if they return relatively quickly, he's likely guilty if the case looks as bad as it sounds like it will.

Wow. First, lol @ you thinking I was serious. Second, double LOL at you getting all UMAD about it. :laugh2:

Victim 4 said that Sandusky treated him like a son in public and "a girlfriend in private."

Victim 1 testified today - still a teen, fought back tears as he described what happened.

There's also stuff all over twitter and the news today stating that university officials and coaches either knew or suspected this stuff for years, and covered it up.

Not only was victim 1 in tears during testimony, several members of the jury were as well.

Crying jury = Guilty verdict

He's going away for a long, long time.

Too bad it's not the Army where the maximum is life.

What do you mean?

I did read if he gets convicted on all counts he could be looking at 500 years.

Pennsylvania does have death penalty. Why isn't he up for that? Regardless, he might get murdered anyway in prison.

I don't think the death penalty statute applies to anything other than murder in Pennsylvania.

At least based on the info I saw in this link:

Looks like pretty much every state is that way. There were a couple states like Texas and Montana that I read in there that had death penalty for repeat rape of a minor and stuff like that. Not Pennsylvania though.
