You can complain about the lack of defensive turnovers, the run game, poor receivers but at the end of the day this is the crux of the matter. We screwed up at the backup QB position.

Brad Johnson Part Deux. We missed the playoffs that year BTW and Romo only missed 3 games.

Couldn't disagree more....Weeden is no starting QB, but I think we win yesterday's game with him. Cassel made poor decisions all game and showed that his arm is really a noodle.

They wouldn't have won with Weeden. When NFL front seven's know the ball is going to stay in front of them 95+% of the time, very little is going to happen. It's not just about how often they stack an 8th man in the box; it's how much they can anticipate what's coming. Anticipation is much more important than formation. His production was trending in a very bad direction, and the picks probably would have increased as teams would force him and the offense to take chances. In his last start, he averages 4 yards per attempt. That's not conservative; that's pathetic. Any lower, and you might as well direct snap the ball to a running back.

Cassell is also very flawed, and stared down receivers far too much. That may improve as he gets more experience with them. If not, then there will be two quarterbacks on this roster who will be out of the league this time next year.

We've had tons of experience so far this year. How's it worked out?

I'd rather have Landry Jones.

Alright. Great point there. But how many Landry Jones types are waiting in the wings. Not many.

I see your Landry Jones and raise you a Ryan Mallett.

That second pick looked more like a punt. It was awful.

Yeah, I said before, it was one of the worst downfield passes I have ever seen. He had plenty of time, no pressure. The ball was late, severely under thrown, and wobbled around. I timed it, and it took over 4 seconds to come down. I think I saw a Chris Jones punt that had less hang time.

My biggest concern with him is that his arm strength is gone. He looks like Chad Pennington without the accuracy.

He unfortunately did more to set us back in 3 games than Cassel did yesterday. We should have shoved Cassel in sooner and just taken our lumps. He would have had an earlier start on self critique of game film and been better prepared yesterday. Oh well... Rue rue rue.

Cassel will give us an even better chance this weekend after having a full game of film to study and understand the nuances of where his plays could have been more successful. I think people sometimes underestimate the value of being able to sit down with a coach and go over game film of yourself. Not some other QB... You!

& the legend will live on in relative obscurity...

lol @ you starting this thread. So many people have egg on their face from hyping Cassel for two weeks. I would let most of you slide, but some of you are so mad about it you just can't stand it. Take your "L" like a man.

Cassel was worse than Weeden in every way; if we simply had Weeden's effort from NO or Atlanta yesterday we win. Cassel was somehow even worse (slightly) than Weeden against New England, playing a far inferior team and with a rushing attack that Weeden or Romo never got. And anyone suggesting the laughable idea that fear of Cassel's floating ducks were the reason for the improved running just exposes themselves as not watching a single second of the game. Cassel had zero to do with it.

Like I said, I look forward to you filling with me hope next week trying to explain away all of Cassel's turnovers again. Going up against Seattle's vaunted secondary, nothing could go wrong right?

Teams have to do their homework when choosing QB's. The Patriots could take a flyer on a headcase like Mallet because the HOF starter isn't going anywhere. Plus they have a Super Bowl roster every year.

Cowboys need to draft somebody this year, make him backup QB and dump these re-treads. Just find somebody smart and accurate. He can learn watching Romo the last couple of years he has left. And if Romo gets hurt again and he has to learn on the field, so be it.

Just don't reach for another Quincy Carter. Personally, I like Kessler from USC. But staying away from USC QB's may be a good idea (Leinart, Barkley, etc.)

The irony is that the offensive performance in the Falcons games likely would have won the Giants game now that the defense is stronger. They were also close to a win in the Saints game.

Weed was terrible but I can see why the coaches thought a super conservative approach might actually work. If the game plan and Cassel had been a little more conservative, they likely win the Gianst game (i.e. Less INTs and they likely win).

Wow. Really? I believe we get throttled with Weeden in there yesterday. No downfield presence and the same old 8/9 in the box. McFadden doesn't get of either because there's no passing threat. It would have been more of the same.

Just because you have this made up fantasy in your head that Weeden checked down on every play doesn't mean it's true. You must be another out of state fan who watches all of the game on the radio.

You mean this doesn't put fear into opposing defenses?

I admit, I have to chuckle when people say that the Giants feared the deep pass. This is what they were afraid of? A punt?

That thing fell out of the sky and fluttered so badly, I thought I was playing Duck Hunt.

I heard someone saying on the radio today that Weeden changed when he got hit really hard in the preseason.
Thought he had a nice comfy gig a s backup and then got borderline concussed.
After that he kept making odd comments about wanting to know his family when he got older, etc.
The man plays scared.

That doesn't let Cassell off the hook.
I kept telling some buddies while we were watching the game yesterday that he was gonna get picked multiple time if he didn't quit staring down his targets....and get the dang ball out quicker.
Then he started predetermining his targets. Ugly stuff.

People forget that he really threw 5 picks yesterday, but two easy ones were dropped.

Cassell, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitz, Matt Schaub....you get rid of Weeden immediately after the 2014 season ended and upgrade the position with one of those guys and we're a 3-3 or 4-2 team right now my word is bond. This organizational disaster has ruined the season.

Look to the draft !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao2:

How soon we forget the incredibly precise TD pass to a coffin cornered Street while scrolling right. Yeah. I see the point you & the other guy have. The legend of Weeden is very much alive.

I'm not saying it's true, but somebody said it was tipped or he was hit when he threw it.

I can't imagine anyone actually prefers Weed, but the more conservative approach that they used in those games might have been a good idea after all.

Dude you nailed it. The downfield threat of having Cassel in there was more than enough to open up the run. That line and DMC took advantage of space to operate. A more conservative approach in the passing game would have served us well. Cassel was nailing the intermediate routes. I have loads of faith that Linehan and Cassel will work out the kinks.
