No kidding.
I think he has potential, but the road might be too long for a team challenging for an SB. I think if he makes his mark it will end up with the Jets or Jacksonville not Dallas.

I think it'll be with Dallas. The team knew what they were getting into when they drafted him.

I'm just not ready to start proclaiming him better than established players while he's still getting his feet under him.

what am i missing here, what does Rico have that we cant lose in our TE corp? why are some fans insisting he wont make it to the PS?
He won't make it to the PS. He's a freak of nature that has now proven that he's teachable. Someone like Belicheat would snatch him up faster than you can say RIIIICOOOOOOO SUAVVVEEEEEEE.

He has a long ways to go. But he had twice the way to go last year and in just 1 year he cut that in half.

He moves entirely better out there than he did last year. He looks faster and more coordinated running. Probably in part due to not thinking as much. What was really impressive about the TD catch is that he boxed out the defender and snatched the ball with ease as well as running at a good speed for such a big guy. Broaddus has stated that he's had issues in training camp running those routes because he gets bumped too easily off his route. On that play he wasn't even attempted to be bumped off his route, so it was an easy play for him. But the potential of a guy that big to run that well and to easily snatch the ball away from a defender was there.

The catch where he fell down and then got up was just very impressive for a player his size to do that so seamlessly and the end result was a tough tackle for defenders. The other catch on the bootleg was nice because he's faster than Swaim or Witten and tougher to tackle than Hanna (and he may be faster than Hanna given Hanna is coming off an injury). That bootleg is a staple of this offense with Dak's ability to bootleg in both directions so well. If we have a guy like Rico who block reasonably well on the weakside and be a Gronkowski type threat with the ball on the boot, it makes life real difficult for defenses. Now the offense can try to set the edge towards Tyron's side and the defense better have 1 defender from the weakside to contain Dak and 1 defender responsible for Rico. And that can create a lot of 10 vs. 9 on running plays in the Cowboys' favor.

I don't see how anyone can be not happy with Rico. Give the front office and coaches credit for finding a diamond in the rough and polishing it. Rico can, and will play in the NFL. I hope it is with Dallas.

I laugh at those who think Rico would last on the PS. Not sure, but I think Jerry paid him a full salary to be on the PS last year. If Jerry did, I am thankful because other teams were stupid for not taking him off the PS. Just like teams were stupid for not stealing Leary.

Practice squad isn't even in the realm of possibilities this year. 31 Teams would put in a waiver claim if the Cowboys would cut him. Yes, 31 teams. And Cleveland would be the winner as I think they get first dibs on all players cut.

The top TEs in the league (guys like Martellus, agronomy, Eifert and the guy from KC) all have similar cocky attitudes.

If Witten is your only paragon for success at the TE position then you need to open your eyes.

Martellus has gotten multiple big contracts in the league as well as a Super Bowl ring, all the while being himself. What's wrong with being like him?

If Witten never gets a ring I'm sure there'll be days he wakes up in the morning wishing he had a career like Bennett's.
:omg::angry::angry::angry::omg:
Witten have regrets?

I can't see him as the type wishing he'd bounced around for 5 different teams in his career, not being good enough to have dominantly mastered his position,,, he don't own a pair of those hobo cleats.

There are several ways to use Rico until he gets better overall. Just use him in the redzone. That should be good for few TD. At the least, the threat of having him out there should help other receivers in the redzone.

Put him out wide and block on the run for Bease and Switz until his inline blocking gets better. Defenders won't be able to see Bease/Swtiz running behind Rico.

Except who do they cut to keep him? You know one of these "going nowhere" teams are going to snap him up if they try to sneak him on the PS.

I feel like you are trying to say him turning into Martellus Bennett is a bad thing. Maybe I'm wrong. I could care less about his persona, if he turned into Martellus Bennett that would be great.

Personality and attitude make a difference to me... I have never been someone who only looks at on field production/talent/potential when evaluating a player and I never will be.

I have been a fan for a long time and there have always been players that rub me the wrong way-- and there always will be.

Martellus was one... and I just hope Rico patterns himself more after Witten and learns the right way to work, play the game, and handle his business on and off the field.

No matter what happens from this point forward he never makes it to the practice squad. If you cut him you have to know that there's no way he clears waivers.

If he keeps showing out it's a moot point. The battle then would be between Swaim and Hanna if we don't keep 4 TEs.

If Dallas implements a rub route for Bryant and where Rico comes across to shield Bryant's man this offense will be even more potent. Rico is a natural to run this route because its similar to a pick and roll in basketball.

I like the way you think......

We need a guy like you within the ranks of this offense to come up with plays
