Nintendo DS - 0.883 million sales per month during the first 10 months of sales.
iPad - 1.7 million sales per month during the first 9 months of sales.
1. On Day 1, the iPad sold over 300,000 units. In the first week, the Nintendo DS sold 500,000 units (same as the iPad). I doubt that the DS sold more than 300,000 in the first day.ChldsPlay;3905565 said:First tell me where I said the DS sold better than the Ipad the first year? (Day 1? DS wins. First 40 days? DS wins by a ton).
Both devices claimed production shortages.Second, factor in shortages.
I haven't claimed that all game systems are niche. For many reasons, console unit sales numbers are not comparable. And then answer the question about the other game systems which it's clear you're avoiding. Come on, just fess up that you've basically claimed all game systems, and pretty much the entire gaming industry is niche.

2. As to the first 40 days, the DS' first 40 days included Christmas. The iPad debuted in April. The only fair comparison is to look at both devices through their first holiday season. Which I did:
Nintendo DS - 0.883 million sales per month during the first 10 months of sales.
iPad - 1.7 million sales per month during the first 9 months of sales.
Both devices claimed production shortages.

Eclipses, how do they work?ChldsPlay;3905814 said:LOL, deny, deny, deny. They're either a small niche market or they're not. The fact is by claiming that the best selling gaming system (or will be this year if not already) OF ALL TIME is niche, then you put every previous system, and basically the entire industry into the niche category.
And Ipads were easy as hell to find last year, I can guarantee you that the DS had significant stretches where they were not available or might come in 1 or 2 per week at stores. That wasn't the case with the Ipad during it's holiday season, let alone significant stretches of the year.

I've thoroughly embarrassed you enough for now. I'll leave you to your own devices.ChldsPlay;3905846 said:2.84 in 40 days while having shortages is how.
Explain how 150 million is a tiny market again. And explain those 5 billion US and 15 billion worldwide tablets too.

And you're in the Sacamano category, only not funny, less intelligent and much more annoying.Dallas;3905895 said:No you haven't. What you have done is completely validate the opinions of most here regarding you and the pure spino-rama that ensues when getting into ANY sort of debate w/ you. Why do you think this thread has about 4 people invovled? The others KNOWWWWWWW already.
You have been....

Excuse me while I place you in the NORS catagory on the board here.

Thank all that is holy you don't post as much as he did, however. You at least have that going for you.
If you read my posts, you'd realize I called the iPad a niche device. But it's been obvious that you don't actually read and digest the posts in full before replying.Joshmvii;3906066 said:DS, niche

World of warcraft is not on ipad, thus niche
Hardcore and serious gamers only play on ipads bros. I thought you knew. Angry Birds is the new dynasty in gaming.

The only reason I was showing those numbers was because someone else claimed that the DS "eclipsed" the iPad in sales. I couldn't care less if one or the other sold more, but if someone is going to make false claims to further their argument, I'll certainly take the time to point it out.DIAF;3906503 said:Not to get into the middle of this little flame war, but I do feel as though I must point out that the nintendo DS did not sell all that well the first year it was out. The GBA SP was still the dominant handheld and games were still in the dev cycle pipeline. It wasn't until those pipelines started to clear that work on DS titles really began in earnest and the system really took off after that.
I don't know why theo keeps going back to the 1st 10 months of sales. The iPad is a computer that plays games. The DS/PSP are handheld consoles that do nothing but play games. It's like comparing xbox or nintendo wii sales to PC sales and saying "See! Look at how niche console gaming is! Dying out! " etc.
A more valid comparison for the iPad and its gaming capabilities are with laptops and tablets.
If by handled, you mean that I've pretty much ignored your posts throughout the thread because of the general lack of facts and coherent arguments, then yes, you handled me quite well.Joshmvii;3906923 said:And then you'll spout off about how the ipad is taking over the gaming market and the real handhelds are niche, but you don't respond when I ask you to look at the software revenue brought in by games on each system. Just move on little buddy. You've been handled. :laugh2:

At least the other guy tried to come up with facts. They may have been blatantly false, but he tried.
Whoops.Joshmvii;3905039 said:Only in the mind of a complete lunatic is the most successful handheld gaming device a niche device. :laugh2:
It doesn't matter how many people are playing angry birds. What matters is revenue, and the revenue from sales of mobile games is not even the tiny little fingernail of the revenue from sales of actual handheld games.
Your argument is like saying that CD players are better than ipods, because there are more people driving automobiles than there are owning ipods, and all those cars have a CD player.
It's one of the dumbest arguments I've ever seen, but I do want to thank you for the entertainment value you provide. It's like watching a monkey dance.
