The need for speed at WR. We'd be stupid not to draft one

I'm a family man that loves sports cars so the Charger was the perfect "make the wife happy/feed my thirst" compromise. That said, The Camaro and Challenger won't work for me. I have to have those 4 doors. I've actually been looking at the Pontiac G8 GXP but probably won't act on my urge til 2010. It's another monster with 4 doors. :)

LOL. The Charger was my target car exactly because of the 4 doors. Now my daughter is off to college so no more driving her and her fellow 6-foot basketball playing teammates around. 2-door here I come.

:) I look forward to that day but it will be awhile. Mine are 8 and 12.

BTW, That Camaro is ridiculously sweet.

I am very confident in Miles Austin and in one of the polls someone made i voted that he is up and coming and will be our future #2. The only problem with Miles as we all know is staying on the field, and other then him, who do we have that can stretch the field? I think its potent that we draft a WR with some speed and good hands in the later rounds, maybe the 5th? I sure would be upset if Miles went down and we had to watch Romo never throw deeper then 20 yards.

Yes, we should draft a WR.

But for anybody who believes this will be a blue chipper capable of starting his first year, forgetaboutit. Any WR in the draft will be groomed for 2-3 years down the road.

Right now we don't have anybody that stretches the field. T.O. is in Buffalo.

This isn't true at all, MA can stretch the field and I look forward to him doing so. He has excellent football speed...

Granted he has tremendous injury concerns but Stanback is all of the above except small. I have faith in Stewart to coach him as he has shown he can with Crayton, Austin and Hurd.

Stanback is 6-2 and 210. That ain't small.

I think we have speed at WR. RW is fast he's just not quick. Like TO. Austin is faster and somewhat quicker. Stanback is as fast as Austin and quicker than Austin or RW.

I think we need a guy with serious quicks. I like Mike Thomas out of Arizona. He can likely be had late although his combine numbers might elevate him. I wouldn't mind a guy like this.

I would love to get Brandon Tate if he fell far enough. I'm afriad that someone is going to take him pretty early though.

You can make the argument for a few positions as a priority. I think WR/PR offers the strongest case. Since our starting WRs are both north of 6-2 and perhaps a little faster than they are quick, the obvious play is a smaller, quicker shifty type guy. We have no accomplished PR, so that fits as well.

I stand by my previous statement that we'll draft a hybrid returner/WR in the mold of a Dante Hall to handle return duties and take some pressure off of Felix to handle the ball 12,000 times per game. (later rounds)
'heck with that... FOUR WORDS: Johnnie Lee Higgins Jr!

Knox has speed and hands, but he is not crisp in his routes. If you've seen the Draft Guys video of Knox, then watch their video of Dillard. Jarrett has no wasted motion in his breaks and doesn't sell out the routes either, which is another knock I have on Knox, however Dillard is a bit slow.

In my opinion, if you took Knox's speed and gave it to Dillard you'd end up with my favorite mid round WR, Mike Thomas. He put up great combine numbers, which only affirmed his solid college career and performance in the Shrine/Senior Bowl practices and games. Like jobberone suggested, I fear his numbers have made him rise too far for us to feasibly take him.

Deon Butler would be a guy in that mold that I'd like to see wearing a star next season.

I'm not sure I understand the love for the big play. I get that it's exciting to watch and, obviously, can many times lead to points that I'd rather have than not have. But at the end of the day, you get more value out of plays that are short and effective (e.g. just enough to get a 1st down after 3 down - 3.4 yds or more). Why? Because the longer the drive, the more the defense and Special Teams can rest, which makes them more effective in the 4th quarter and, in turn, makes it very difficult for the opposing defense to maintain intensity throughout the game.

So while I agree good speed would be nice out of a Late Round pick, good reliable hands might be more valuable all things considered.
