The coaching and talent argument never changes and I will argue that the Cowboys have not had the talent to bring it home on the D side of the ball in decades.
However, what they do have is a very good track record in the very first year a new HC takes over from Parcells to Phillips to Garrett, the talent responded so there is something to that coaching side of the argument. Or is the argument in favor of change?
Wade Phillips is considered one of the very best DC's yet he's hit and miss with the same system from team to team. Lewis and Ryan failed to field D's anything close to the ones that got them HC's jobs. Jim Johnson was up and down as he's considered one of the best to ever do it.
I don't know if the Cowboys did enough to even stay at the same level as last season on the D side with losing the best DL and DB so Nolan and his guys have their work cut out for them because fans expect it to be better, that's what change is all about, isn't it? Make it better.
I do feel they did about as well as they could as there were only two immediate impact HC's available and WAS got the other one. I will try to back off criticizing Booger in that area because I think he did the best he could although it was late coming but who am I to say that even? I don't own it, I am not close to it and I didn't have a guy that I've known from when he first became a Cowboy, did a fine job in his role on the team, to when he entered coaching and became a hot commodity. I am also not 78 with his priorities more having a job for all the family members.
I think that too often we fans do not really consider what this really is, a locally owned and operated family run business that just happens to be a NFL team.
