The New Draft Format...Your Honest Opinion

Um, only because you stuck your nose in (again) at post #21. Again, not every post requires a response from you, especially in a thread as trivial as this one. If Hos asked us what our favorite flavor of ice cream was, you'd make me defend "chocolate." Sadly, some people are just trouble-seeking *****. If you've confronted or replied to any posters in this thread besides myself, please forward their names.
I'm glad you agree that you replied to my post. Not sure why you tried to argue otherwise.

No disagreement. We both agree that the NFL is manipulating the draft schedule in deference to the almighty dollar. You're cool with it; I'm not. Big deal. So why are we still talking about this?
No idea. Bored on a Saturday?

On the contrary, it was very specific. In fact, it specifically omitted the word "capitalism" or any attacks thereon, so you had no choice to invent some out of hand. If you can't win, then cheat.
Your statement "labasted" (your word, not mine) "any system based solely on greed." I guess you could argue that literally it was so specific it refers to no systems whatsoever, since no system is based "solely" on any one thing. But I don't think you intended that literal reading of the sentence, in which case the generality of the statement becomes clear, and the statement would encompass capitalism.

Capitalism is based almost solely on greed. It's the key ingredient. It's what makes the whole thing work. I was just pointing that out.

You were criticizing the system. Not a particular participant.

Intolerable? Who said that? I'm simply calling a spade a spade. They have the right to soak the fans, and I have the right to object. Similarly, you have the right to shamelessly shill on their behalf.
Whether you were "lambasting" it or saying it's "intolerable" doesn't make any material difference in the conversation.

There you go again with the fake words. I explicity said scheme, not system. And yes, their scheme (perhaps you prefer "strategy") is to maximize TV ratings above all else. You no doubt remember my postings in the Poli Zone. Did I ever once give off an anti-capitalist vibe? That insinuation is as absurd as it is defamatory.

It's based on array of economic incentives, not necessarily greed. Some of the richest men in the world (Gates, Walton) would never be described as "greedy."

No, I was criticizing certain participants in the system (ESPN and the NFL). Sad and bewildering that you can't make the distinction yet.

Yeah right. Context is soooo overrated. For putting words in my mouth ad nauseam, I nominate you "official board ventriloquist."

I see what you meant now. I thought you had said "system." When I think of the term scheme, I think of it in the broad sense, not as in a single particular action like this. Not that either use is correct or incorrect, that's just how my mind tends to view the word, so I guess that's where I got confused. Apologies for my misunderstanding.

faints dead away

And peace spread throughout the land. :)

I'd rather have the draft start on Friday and go through Sunday. Of course, I'd rather have it the old way, rds 1-3 on sat, rds 4-7 on sun. But the NFL draft is the most popular. I'd still like to see them move the location of the draft to different cities.

I'd call most of my friends casual NFL fans, most of them will know UT stars, OU's stars and a TT player. They will also know the Hiesman winner and be completely befuddled that the Heisman winner most years isn't the 1st player taken.

If Dallas is picking in the top 10 and after listening to me talk about it endlessly they will make time to watch it or record it.

When I got married my wife knew about football season and she knew that nothing could be scheduled on Saturday or Sunday during the season. Her dad is a huge Cowboy fan, so she was well trained, but even though he's everybit the serious Cowboy fan I am, she was caught off guard by a whole weekend in April being off limits.

My point is the NFL draft isn't for everyone and while the Sunday audience in the past was small the Saturday audience now will be very limited.

The new format depresses me and I'm well aware that I have issues, I don't care I want my favorite weekend of the off-season back to normal. I loved the Friday night rumors and the early Saturday morning speculation and information. Hours of anticipation and excitement that just cannot build on a Thursday during the week.

I hate this!!!!!!!!!!

I hate it (because 1st round in CET (Central Europe Timezone) will be very late)

Almost as strange as the 51 other Sundays without the draft.:D
:laugh2: i should have said boring. Then again most sundays are boring that time of year.

I hate the idea for now.

But in five years, when Goodell moves the event to Europe, it'll be great.

Absolutely hate this idea. I had one weekend in the off season where I could just hide myself away on a Saturday and Sunday to watch this. now, I have to figure out what my work schedule would be on a Thursday and Friday to make sure I can beat the rush hour traffic, get home, do whatever I have to do then sit up for 4 hours that night watching the draft, then get up for work the next morning, then do it all over again on Friday then watch the rest of it on Saturday.

What a bunch of morons at the NFL. they had a great thing going and they try to kill it. Well, so much for our annual draft party. :bang2:

The new format sucks. Goodell seems determined to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

What ****** made this schedule? Seriously. It's alright if you work a 9-5 or don't live on the West Coast. But i'm pretty sure the West Coast has a pretty large population(I live in TX, the West Coast is Mars to me) and even more people might actually have to work on a Thursday or Friday evening. Then they go and make the starting time 7am on Sat. for West Coasters.

BRILLIANT. Maybe next they can have Goodell performing his best "Dancing with the Stars" impression as he walks up to podium to announce the picks.

Something none of you who hate it are looking at.

How often in the off season do we yearn for football news? Do you normally have this kind of excitement on a Thursday or Friday in the off season? If so, when? Maybe when a Free Agent is signed. How big is that usually? Nothing in comparison to the Draft.

I am as big a Draft junkie as there is on this forum. I now have a Sunday free to do what I want and I will not miss any of the picks by going to Church. Maybe not everyone is deeply religious, but I am. I don't skip church for anything. Now, I don't have to even blink.

I'll have 2 great nights and half of my Saturday so I con still go do stuff with my wife and kids that evening and all of my Sunday.

There is a lot of over reaction to this. It will end up being just as entertaining in the long run.

Besides the only thing that can make a draft suck is if we make questionable picks.

#4 and #5 are kind of the same thing
Changed the wording a little to make it less alike. I think it was already an implied difference, but I will make it an obvious one.

Saturday at Noon is where it belongs.

Thursday at 7:30...what a bunch of maroons.

People have to work the next day.

Part of the fun was drinking and eating and not have to worry about stuff like that.

The thing I like is there are multiple votes in every category.

Unless they change the amount of time you get for your pics, I think this is going to flop. The draft is very uneventful and honestly I often only check to see how much time until dallas is on the clock.

1st round is 10 minutes between picks instead of 15.

I believe 2nd and 3rd round are 7 minutes and 4 through 7 are 5 minutes.

I am a junkie. I watch every single minute of coverage.
