He would have had about 5 picks this year alone...

You feel so free to toss that about.
(camera in tight to face)
But I was once a short bus rider.
Yes, go ahead and make fun of me.
Tell me how much more relevant and important and superior, Herr Verdict, you are.
That kind of thinking got me a one-way ticket to the auto shop classroom. But them constant oil changes for the teacher's cars and constant tune-ups of his lawnmower gave me time to think. Well, besides that, you feel you are better than me?
Because you ride a fancy Saturn and drink starbucks latins and go dancing with Mitzi Gaynor and Fabian?
Men are created equal. Well, not Fred Flintstone of Shami Wow that candidate, but no one should make fun of no other because it will karma back to you.
OK, be nice and be our friend don't be all superior and nothing.
My anger has subsided.
go cowboys ...

Based on your theory, we should trade D Ware also. He had 20 sacks last year and only 11 this year. Plus he is injury prone. Consider the neck injury, the foot and the wrist, he like Witten are both on there way down. While we are at it, we should trade Ratliff, 7.5 sacks last year and only 6 this year. Again, he had off season surgery. Being only a 305 lb NT, he can't hold up much longer. While we are it, lets get rid of Newman. He's always hurt. Throw Miles in as well, this is the 1st season that he played 16 games. So if we trade: Witten, Ware, Ratliff, Newman & Austin, we can get like 10 1st round picks dude. This is awsome. Sign me up. I wonder if we through in Romo and Colombo can we get up to 15 1st round picks. I'm sure we can.Verdict;3282042 said:Prior to THIS past season, I'm quite sure that if someone had suggested the mere possibility that LaDanian Tomlinson was a player on the decline that the San Diego fans would have scoffed at the idea, much like you are now. This year, in his 9th season, Tomlinson, the superman, came back to earth, having a very sub par year.

I think Dallas is close to achiving their goal I don't see taking backward steps as a way of achiving the goal. If you are a draftnik great but we have one of the top TE in the league and big part of this team and will need him if we are to achive the goal of winning a SB
Verdict;3281411 said:To all of you short bus riding simpletons who are bashing me for making this post, I guess thinking is not really your strong suit. I am not saying Witten sucks. He has been a perennial pro bowler. His has very good to "great" trade value.
He may have another good year or two in him. He might have more. However, he might also be on the down side of his career. Witten has always been a "tough guy" playing with a broken jaw, etc. But guys who are tough guys (also like MBIII) have a tendency to get broken down over time. I am thinking that it is "possible" that last year we might have seen Witten tail off a little bit to being a mere mortal.
With players, you have to project where they will be this year, next year and thereafter. The great franchises that stay on top in the salary cap era let aging veterans go rather than outlive their contracts.
If we were to let Witten go for two firsts, he might tear it up for another year, but realistically, he is not a young player. He has some miles on that body. What sort of damage could we do with three (count 'em) 3, first round picks?
Vtwin;3282415 said:And that's the bottom line here. If it were 1998 the team would HAVE to consider a trade like this for two first rounders.
Fortunately it's 2010 and the Cowboys are legitimate contenders with an all pro TE. You don't subtract an all pro anybody from a legitimate contender no matter how old he is.
