The Dallas Cowboys did have the best OL in the league in the early 90's though.

There is no debating that.

Here we go again about the best Oline. They had about 12 to 15 oline in the 90's how can they all be that good. The deal is this the guy is the NFL leading rusher and rushing TD also the same in the playoffs. Give the guy his props( what does he have to do to get respect) top 3, please! he is simply the BEST, TOP, Nobody better. His stats say it and so does his accomplishments on the football field. The greatest cowboy player because he not only carried himself well on the field but off. He is the only Cowboy in a long glorious list of Cowboy players to be at the pinnacle of accomplishments( rushing titles, 100 yd games, most super bowls, and rushing yds and rushing TD). He played on a great team, but is also its greatest player.

Who said anything about Emmitt? I didn't say he wasn't the best RB in the league.

But I'm talking about the Cowboys OL.

From 1992-1995 it was the best in the league. Maybe the best ever.

It had FOUR probowlers on it at one time.

Tuinei, Newton, Stepnoski, and Erik Williams. And Williams might have been a Hall of Famer himself had he not blown his career by wrecking his knee.

Newton was one of the top 3 guards in the game at the time and Stepnoski was one of the top TWO centers in the game at the time.

Then Larry Allen -- only another Hall of Famer -- got added to the mix.

There is no question the Cowboys had the best OL in football.

He was the #3 pick overall in the draft. He caught nearly 60 balls and had 8 TD grabs. He was demanding serious attention from day 1.

Or do you believe that teams just said "aww, let's leave the rookie alone"

im not dismissing his talent and im not saying that he wasnt accounted for. this could easily be possible because there is 8 men in the box, but with all honesty you cant say 937 yards with 9 TDs is all due to Fitzgerald, Boldin and Johnson.

Silly me -- I forgot this board was "Homerville"

Gee -- Emmitt must have really loved the game to go play for a crap team for 2 years.

Big fat ****** bag.

Emmitt should quit at your say so?

Lot's of athletes hang on...I mean pad their stats.... Just look at any sport...if your as worldy as you think you are, you find several every year in everysport....guys that prolly shoulda just hung it up a year or two ago.

Guess what...they love the game and are dedicated. It's their whole life. Not quite ready to wash it away and start new.

But he's an easy target for all the douceh bags that told him to quit.

That'd make me play for a couple more years too, even the Cards.

****** bag.

Again, I didn't see that his last few years in Dallas -- I saw a guy who wanted to go out of bounds instead of getting hit. That to me was sadder than him going to AZ.

Once again....if you'd care to open your eyes...you'd see a TON of football players dart out of bounds before they get hit. We're not used to Emmitt doing it. But it's part of the game for many football players.

But keep it up...if it makes you feel so superior to us HOMERS.

Of course not, but it does suggest an offense with lots of weapons -- not the "Emmitt was the entire O" claim made earlier.

But I will submit that 937 yards is pretty pedestrian. The 9 tds are nice but not amazing. I'm pretty well convinced that if T-Ham started for the Cards that year that he would have had similar stats.

Please. Emmitt jumped out of bounds on several occassions where he gave up on plays that could easily have resulted in first downs.

Most players, if they jumped out of bounds after gaining 7 yards on 3rd and 8, they get benched. Not 22.

There are some issues -- or places -- where it's not worth your time.

This issue on this board is one of them.

You are talking to people here who will tell themselves anything just to be winners on this subject.

Emmitt earned the right to retire when he good and well wanted to retire. Even in his last year.

Emmitt's last four years in the NFL he played for teams that went 5-11, 5-11, 4-12, and 6-10.

Not a lot of talent there. Sure Emmitt was not what he used to be, but given the numbers he did put up with some crappy teams I think he more than deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Clinton Portis put up a whopping 3.8 yards a carry and 5 TDs to E. Smith's 3.5 yards per carry and 9 TDs during Smith's last year. Clinton Portis had 378 yards more than Emmitt, but he also ran the ball 76 more times and had a 12 year youth advantage.

Yeah, I give the benefit of the doubt to Emmitt. He earned it.

T-Ham = 26
Smith = 35

id say 937 yards and 9 TDs is impressive in 14 games, i mean jujo had 994 in 12 games . . . youd think that with 2 more games jujo would have prolly gained say 1100-1200 yards . . . id say 14 games with 937 is a great season at 35. and at QB arizona didnt have any1 scary so covering the WR was quite a bit easier.

What more do you need as evidence that Emmitt should have packed it in? You either believe the information or don't.

He went from being the best player in the league to being a mediocre back. That sort of drop off tells me the guy was done.
He wasn't done, he was a mediocre back. There were a lot of backs better than him, but there was plenty worse than him.

Just because he was no longer great, I don't see why that makes it ridiculous for him to want to keep playing.

To me it is ridiculous to keep going when you are a shell of your former self. if you are mediocre b/c that's all the talent you have then fine -- if you are mediocre b/c your talent has eroded, then it is time to pack it in.

How should I "prove it" - I'm positive that any of the more knowledgeable fans on this board would verify this.

that's great -- but this league isn't about how well you perform given your age -- it is about how well you perform period. and he was mediocre in AZ and during his last 2 years in Dallas.

935 yards in his final season. 3.5 YPC. FYI 3.5 YPC sucks. That's nearly identical to Hambrick's last season in Dallas (973 yards, 3.5 YPC).

Nobody was calling T-Ham a contributor at that time.

That sounds like JJ's stats last yr.
