I mean someone mentioned the more affluent areas might have less kids but who cares the league is what 20% white.
It don't matter about affluent or not I don't think...its a popular sport STILL...as long as they don't kill it via moronic..overreaching rules. Lets enforce the rules that already exist..PLEASE DONT RUIN THE GAME. Just start teaching the game better at the pop warner level..THATS THE ANSWER.

So true but even still it's a game where bodies are running as fast as they can collisions are bound to happen. These guys have split second decisions and where to target. And if the other person moves it can totally mess up where you were aiming.

We need better teachers of the sport...ie smarter coaches at the pop warner level...you cant change this on a dime,by suddenly making up a new rule on the fly lol..its asking for many mistakes to be made by refs. As if the refs need anymore reason to control the outcome of a game..MY LORD!!!!

Again the trickle down effect. Follow the money trail.

Will these high schools and universities invest the same level of finances if it becomes an all minority league at those levels. Will the networks , sponsors and American people invest as heavily as the effects move into the NFL?

There’s always consequences which could have more effect on the quality of talent and the future of the game than some stricter rules being put in place now.

Especially since there are still guys in the league my age 33. That grew up with coaches hitting you in the head screaming at you through your facemask. And if you knocked a player on the opposing team out your coaches got hyped.

Yup..and that's why this rule may actually back fire and cause more Injury. That split second hesitation can be the difference of being hurt or making a tackle...its a recipe for disaster. Like you said..when bodies are running fast..adrenaline flowing...players aren't thinking..they are focused on only 1 thing..stopping the progress of the ball..PERIOD.

Correct.

Can’t fix this overnight. But this is a start. The NFL like the NCAA are attempting to stop the bleeding with the legal liability before legislators get involved.

They honestly can't think at that moment it's pretty much all reflex and instinct. Or you get the kid that does hesitate to think and Stephon Diggs in the playoffs happens.

I PLAYED in the early to mid 80's at the high school..the a short stent in college. Your so right..lol..the coaches/coaching was vastly different. HELL...my own coaches would hit us in the helmet lol...and like you said..grabbing the facemask...I thought something was wrong if my High school coach didn't cuss me out lol...it was who he was...and I wouldn't have wanted it any different. He had a passion and it helped my team win a championship. In todays world, he wouldn't be able to coach..he would be sued...jailed..lord only knows..lol..He passed away a few years ago. He was a great coach. Like a 2nd father. He was salty but we all loved him for it. Hesperia High school,Ca.

Adding more obtuse rules judged by complete subjectivity. Great.

Further diminishing running backs. Remember guys, fans want a passing league. You got it.

IN contact sports..he who hesitates gets hurt. It takes the instincts out of the game.

I expect no less than a handful of times we're flagged on this, completely subjectively, in key moments when it actually isn't certain at all.

Not sure of the schedule but you can just look at the schedule and see where it'll be. If we play Green Bay it's a certainty.

Can't lower one's helmet? Then how do half of the league's secondaries now make a tackle?

Good point...This rule will be the leagues undoing and I predict they will have to fix THAT new rule on the fly during the year..if not do away with it altogether. It will flop. It hurts the flow of the game even worse.

Biting my tongue...the aggressiveness is being taken away from the sport...Maybe the wives agree...but they aint the ones on the field.
Self inflicted violence, oh your poor tongue.

Your lack of concern for the players' safety, while not that unusual, pretty much sums up your dismay at the rule. I watch a ton of college football and that rule has not affected the game at all except for the time it takes to assess targeting. I think you are over-reacting and don't know how this is all going to work out any better than the rest of us.

I think there are plenty of players on the field that like a rule that protects them. The D players that are concerned are most likely more concerned about how it will be called instead of the intent. Of course there are those that can't tackle for crap and using their helmet is their first choice and they will either have to learn or learn to do something else.

Great idea...give the inept refs yet more reason to wield and abuse their power...:omg: Brilliant
