Id love to see some high tempo offense where they stick with the play sent in from the sidelines, line up and snap the ball. We have to try something to get defenses off balance, the status quo isnt getting it done.

But perhaps not attacking them means a loss for us?

Well, if they go spread on their own 10 in the fourth qtr of a 4 point game and romo gets picked forcing one or gets sacked repeatedly well that is not good football either.

Colquitt was basically kc MVP today. He kept us pinned down all game.

Can't have it both ways though, last week romo's audible and then shifting of witten into the slot led to a huge Td to witten.

That's because this team doesn't have any specific philosophy.

They want to be a dynamic 2TE offense but are better suited to go with more 3WR sets. They constantly look around the league and cherry-pick things that work for other teams.....see Wildcat and now the Pistol, and I'd even throw in the bubble screen as well because this team has almost zero success running it even though other teams gash defenses regularly.

They want to be a high tempo team that wears out defenses but even their sped up approach leaves them snapping the ball with little time on the clock.

They want to be balanced but cannot run the ball at all, partly because they basically roll out a 7OL formation for many of their runs when their OL struggles to block individually and their TEs are worse. They invite 8 guys in the box and try to run from these 2TE formations.......and can't figure out why they can't run. How about you spread teams out a bit to prevent the defense from clogging the middle at the snap.

Because they can't run they have long 3rd downs.....I think I saw today the average distance on 3rd down was actually over 10 yards. That's nuts.

Anyone see today that Marty caught 2 TDs, one of them a game winner? I believe that gives him 8 catches on the year, 3 TDs. Meanwhile Escobar has 2 catches which is approximately what Martellus got for 2 of his seasons in Dallas......1 catch per week. 20, 15, 33, 17. Those are the season-by-season catches for Marty while in Dallas. As I have been saying, the problem Martellus didn't work in Dallas is NOT because Martellus couldn't receive. Clearly he can do a hell of a lot more in the passing game than Dallas ever got from him. The problem is, this team has too many damn weapons ahead of the #2 TE that it's impossible to even get passes in the direction of the #2 TE.

This team has no offensive identity, they have no single philosophy, and absolutely refuse to move away from what doesn't work.

The offenses is just far too ineffective. They appear to try and set something up all day, wasting down after down as part of some master plan to open up big plays later. Yet, because they cannot execute consistently or even run the ball at all, teams never have to adjust to anything and will be content letting Dallas dink and dunk all day and run 3 yard routes on 3rd and 8.

Outstanding!

Maybe not all the time, but it would be nice to mix it in, we need to do something to make defenses uncomfortable.

I think the problem is the defense is keeping the game close and not spotting the other team a 20 point lead, the offense does much better when they have nothing to lose and the opposing D is in prevent

That's because that's when Romo goes into "screw JG's system" and plays backyard gun slinger football.

Flea flicker completed by Vinny Testaverde (I think) to someone (Glenn maybe?) first game of the year several years ago.

and i'm not even talking about a trick play. Just a play that got one of our guys behind the defense because of the design of the play and not because our Cowboy player just burned them.

I'm so tired of reading fans in denial of the talent level of this team blaming a constant revolving door of coaches.

Its time to dump the offensive philosophy which Garrett has instilled into this team. Nothing is wrong with the players that we have - Witten, Dez, Austin, Romo, etc. Its the playbook that Garrett has brought which doesn't fit the players. Although Callahan is calling the plays, its still Garretts playbook.

Its time to start anew. Throw away the playbook. Find a real offensive coordinator that doesn't have to deal with Garrett's playbook. Its crap and I've been saying for years now.

No, you dont start anew by throwing away the playbook, you start anew by getting rid of who brought the playbook

Garrett has been promoted based on nepotism and not achievement.

He was an after-thought QB coach in Miami (who exactly did he develop?) so gets promoted to OC of the dallas cowboys

He was an unspectacular OC in Dallas (never had a top 10 offense in terms of points without Sparano) and was part of the biggest meltdown in dallas cowboys history so gets promoted to HC

Now leads an undisciplined team where he has been stripped off his play-calling responsibilities

unfortunately we are stuck with him becasue he is in the family portrait and the ego of the GM/owner would take a big hit if he had to be let go

I watched some of the Packers game yesterday, and some of the Seattle/SF game last night. What I learned was:

1. Some offensive lines actually open holes through which RBs can run -- sometimes for gains actually IN EXCESS of 3 yards.
2. Some receivers are able to gain separation from defenders so the QB does not constantly have to thread a needle to get a pass to them.

Now, I don't know what the Cowboys have to do to emulate those other teams. Respected O-line coaches have come and gone. Play-calling duties have been changed. Skill talent has been upgraded. Injured players have returned healthy. New 2-TE philosophy was supposed to strike fear in the hearts of defenses. In the end, the offense looks as underpowered as it did last year, leaving yards and points on the field.

I don't want to be too pessimistic, but this season is not looking promising after its first 1/8 is in the record books.

The talent on offense is fine.

Somehow Kiffin and Marinelli can turn a lesser talented group into a productive unit.

Maybe perhaps because they know what they're doing where as there isn't a single staff member on offense who even knows who's offense it is.

There are less talented offenses that score on par with Dallas.

This staff on offense is holding the team back. Simple as that.

So we simply need to change staffs and we'll have an effective running game to balance the offense? Bad run blockers will become good ones?

If we run the ball into the end zone that first drive of the 2nd half to go up by 10, game over. Even at that if Dez Bryant doesn't drop a wide open easy TD courtesy of this horrible offense, game over.

This is nonsense. Just like the notion that Bill Callahan was going to fix all that ails this offense was nonsense. You're wrong. The talent level of the team just isn't very good.

Ironically, it was the delay if game penalty on the chiefs that saved them.

Also the chiefs only scored three points off the two turnovers.

I was hoping it wasn't a delay of game because you just knew the Chiefs would end up getting a first down one way or another. It's how the football gods torture us......
