Because I have followed this team for 30 years. And I keep hoping Jerry will grow out of it. If he retains Garrett I'm done for good.

If it was any other (sane) organization, Garrett would've been gone after year four at most. Here, Jerry is still delaying the inevitable at year nine-and-a-half for no legitimate reason whatsoever. I'm not sure why the contract wouldn't have ended on the Monday following the last game of the year if the team didn't continue onto the postseason.

Because the team needs to let other coaches know that this position is open. Timeliness is extremely important if there's a coach you want that other teams might also want.
