The One and Almighty Powerball/Lotto Thread!

lol
I find the asteroid strike one hard to believe. Seems like it would be in the billions.
How many people in the last 20 years have died from that?

remember that russian meteorite? if that had come in at a different angle we would seen a different result.

Your 100 tickets are almost the same as buying 1 ticket, as far as increasing your chances of winning.

Where is your interest going to come from? Your money isn't 100% safe in a bank, as it's only federally insured for 250k. You would likely have to pay for your own insurance to insure your money if you just leave it in a bank. Assuming it's a 2-3% return, which is somewhat generous, you likely won't beat inflation.

Is anyone's money 100% safe? Is it safer to sit in several simple savings accounts or in major investment markets? There are risks everywhere.

Assume one earns zero interest a year on a take home lump sum of $300 million. They are still set up to live very well the rest of their lives and leave a good chunk around for their beneficiaries.

I agree. I also would like to see the reasoning for the 1 in 10 million for being the POTUS.

I think I read somewhere that 50% of lottery winners wouldn't take the money if they had to do it over again. Or, something like 50% were happier before they won the money.

First thing they recommend is getting a fake name before claiming. Another thing is that the winners say they can't even open their own mail because of all the people with legitimately sad stories, heartbreaking stories asking for money.

Then again, like Springsten said, "Having a lot of money is a problem. But, it is not a bad problem to have."

I bought 10 tickets. I don't think the money would change me. I do think the hardest part would be deciding who gets how much when giving some to friends and relatives.

The money would not change me at all. I would still be the same bitter, cynical jerk I always am. I would just be able to flaunt it more.

Clearly this means I should play.

Dork........I would have to agree, tho.

Okay, so I decided I'm going to take out a loan of $600,000,000 and buy a ticket for every possible Powerball combination. After lump sum payout, taxes, and loan repayment, I'll have a cool $50,000,000 to play around with.

Someone loan me 600 million dollars for a few days.

from what i've heard, no winner. powerball goes up to $1.3 billion.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Wow, the most numbers I got out of 140 chances was TWO! I didn't have 57 in any one of them either :(

I've never really looked at the math, but it seems like this could actually be a thing with the jackpot being at ~1.3 billion.
