Dak Prescott is the real deal and just 24 years old. We've lucked into securing the most elusive position in sports for the foreseeable future. During the twilight of the Romo years you could feel the window closing with each lost opportunity and there was this sense of urgency to fix everything in the off-season to get things 'right' for one final run before spinning into QB abyss.

I no longer have that hallowing feeling surrounding the future of this team. We have a lot of work to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball, but this is a young nucleus that will continue to improve over time. We probably overestimated the readiness of this team to compete for championships after last season, but the franchise is still trending upwards. We went blow-for-blow with arguably the best QB of this era.

There's no such thing as a moral victory, but I'm proud of how Dak played. We unearthed a gem in the 4th round.

I agree, I don't think we need to worry about a sophomore slump, we just need to worry about building up our defense and securing another top WR and receiving TE of the future. Rico might be the answer, but we need to get him on the field.
D-Line is there, but we need to send four and stop with the 3 man rush

Agree 100%. If you have a QB, you are over half way there. We have a RB as well, and a core group of very good OL men.

We do need some speed at WR to scare the other teams and may need to get a OG soon.

The D is ,,, well.

My boys a baller. On pace for 40 total TDs... with no line and a **** running game. What was that ******** people were talking last year about he's a manager, getting carried by his running game? And to think people on here were asking for him to be replaced just last week... bafoons

EDIT: also doing it with the worst offensive coaching staff in the league

I still think we need to invest in a blue chip DT. The great ones have a trickle down effect on the rest of your defense and can be game wreckers in their own right.

They also provide toughness and attitude for your defense, something we're sorely lacking.

He's been quelling any doubts I've had about him recently. He's basically carried the offense the past 2 games as he's had to deal with mediocre pass protection and run blocking, EE seems to be working to regain his old form, Dez is still a valuable player on the team but no longer dominating, T-Will is useless outside of blocking, the team opted to use James Hanna instead of Beasley and a lot of the play calling leaves a lot to be desired. And he's hung in there and despite the sieve that is our defense, he's put us in position to win games.

Cap money goes in cycles. By the time we have to pay Dak and Zeke, heavy contracts like Romo, Dez, Witten, Crawford and maybe even Sean Lee will be off the books.
Thats fair but our OL will be a big chunk of the cap....

This and turnovers are keeping me optimistic.

Turnovers have a lot of luck/randomness to them, and we've lost the turnover battle the last two games, and in somewhat fluky fashion. The Rams and Packers had 0 turnovers combined the last 2 games, versus 4 (2 in each game) for Dallas, not counting the shenanigans on the final play against GB.

Dak is excellent against bad defenses and well below average against good defenses.

There's plenty of work for him to do.

I could have written this post in 2006 when Romo was a first year starter...uh oh.

double edged sword

Dak is a baller, a great talent at THE premier, THE most important position in all of football (arguably all of professional sports). And is being paid a backup QBs salary

Soon that is going to change. And soon this team is going to be seriously hampered by the cap to do anything as Dak's salary will take up most of the cap (as it should)

If this franchise cannot take advantage of MASSIVE salary cap discounts from Dak and Zeke before they're rookie contracts are up, then I see very grim times ahead
