The Onus is now on the offense

With the selection of Mazi Smith, I think the onus is now on the offense. This defence is complete. We have two NTs (including, imo, a beast with Mazi Smith), Micah Parsons, a dynamic pass rush, a loaded secondary, and now the ability to stop the run. The offense MUST take advantage. They are likely going to get more short fields this season as a result of the pick last night. I look for the Cowboys next picks to be for a OL player and a RB. I'd also like Tre Tucker in round 6. Doing this should put the offense in a spot where they'll simply have to succeed.

In other words, the offense now likely has no excuse if they don't succeed. This is probably the best the defence has been since Jimmy was here. All the offense has to do is drive the bus, score points, and not turn the ball over. If they can do that, great things will happen for this team.

Yeah, no excuses. Only that they don’t have enough playmakers. Other than that, no excuses.

I believe it's clear as day that we're trying to make this a defensive team. There's no question about what direction this team is trying to go.

That's what you have to do when you have Trent Dilfer playing QB.

I have a feeling, if the offense some how struggles this year with this defence and the amount of short fields we are going to have, that there might be a QB selection on the way next year. In fact, there's a chance in round 4 they might go QB with the guy from Stanford. How ironic would that be that we get yet another good QB prospect in round 4? I could see a scenario where we go QB this year in round 4 and, if the offense flops, go QB round 1 next year. Especially as Dak (assuming the FO doesn't extend him, or leaves an out possible for 1 June either next offseason or the one after) could be on a short leash with his current contract situation.

We either go with a 1st round talent at QB or nothing.

We've wasted almost 30 years hitching our franchise to QBs drafted outside the 1st round. We've not went with a 1st round QB since Aikman.

If we don't take the QB position seriously and draft an actual 1st round talent then I vote we just continue to load up on defense.

I would think that we might, but I can see the argument of taking a midround this year and a 1st round next year. The midround would have an extra year to develop, while the first round prospect next year should be ready to play. At worst, the loser of the QB battle could be dealt for extra firsts later. That way, we'd be getting a QB this year that, if worst comes to worst, we could flip to a QB hungry team for an extra first or two, while also being able to have our QB for the future on the roster.

There is always an excuse.

Starting te gone
starting lg gone
Zeke gone, pollard coming off injury
Steel injured
Tyron can't stay healthy
Mike's play calling sucks

And I'm sure there will be more.

I think Mike's playcalling will be better than what we've had. I am excited to see what this team does, and I think a QB this year in the midrounds and another one next year in round 1 would be wise. We'd have the QB of the future, and likely more first round picks to go with it after dealing the loser of the QB battle.

I'm fine with that.

I just want to see effort taken when it comes to the QB position. I want to see it taken seriously.

Nope. Not gonna happen. Levi's was projected by some to be a top 10 pick. If the boys were gonna draft a QB high yesterday was the day. By this time next year dak will have a new contract.

When was the last time this actually happened? When Dak was drafted in the 4th round in 2016 he wasn't expected to compete for the starting job, much less take it away from Romo. What happened was a fluke and they got extremely lucky that Dak was at least able to fill in adequately when Romo went down. Since 2016, what QB has been drafted that could be considered the future at the position or even be able to compete for the starting job? There has been no one. The position simply isn't important enough to Jerry. He's convinced you can get the job done with an average QB if you surround him with enough talent. Unfortunately, Jerry has failed there as well.

I think CeeDee and Cooks are playmakers, and besides, I'm just asking them to drive the bus and score points.
If they can add an OL, RB and stud TE, in the next 3 rounds it would address the rest of the offensive needs

Getting a legit kicker later would be the icing on the cake……I know they won’t address the Qb position even for depth

Honestly, I think Dak has 100% been surrounded by enough talent. I think we've drafted very well for the most part.

I mean we've had enough talent to go 5-1 with Cooper Rush the last 2 years.

The problem is when you need something, anything, from the QB you don't get it. Dak is a front runner. He's not going to will a team to victory or ever put a team on his back when everything isn't perfect.

You could substitute countless other QBs into Dak's spot and you're going to get the same results in terms of team success.

I know it's cliché, but we really are one of those rare example of being just a QB away. But, like you said, it's unforntunetley a position that Jerry doesn't consider important.
