The 'Over The Hill' Players

I love Jason but he struggles to reach his blocks and every defense knows this, hopefully Rico can take over gradually starting this year. As far as DB's, the draft will be good to us this year.

Witten is a marginal blocker at this point in his career. Worse than Free.

He still has value, but not much value as a blocker.

Witten's value is as the soul of a Cowboys team that has transitioned to a young roster with players on both sides of the ball looking at him for guidance.

In the past few years, Witten's role has changed, with the Cowboys becoming more of a run-first team, but he remains one of the best do-it-all tight ends in the game with his blocking and pass-catching skills.

Witten is good for another season. He is still sure handed and a guaranteed first down when the pressure is on. He is not what he once was, but he is still an asset.

I just wish the team could find a way to ACTUALLY utilize a second TE in the offense - one who can stretch the field. If Rico could use his athleticism to make teams respect not only his size, but his speed... imagine how much more deadly those Witten option routes would be. I love Witten, but he is becoming more of a one-trick-pony at this point. Granted, he is a master at that trick, but new blood is welcomed there.
Witten will go down as a top receiver in Cowboys history. I doubt a player near as good as he is will be on roster anytime soon. Jay Novecek proved to be a difficult player to replace, and he's nowhere near as good as Witten.

Witten undoubtably is a a good role model for younger players. I disagree with your assessment of his current ability to block, but obviously that is a matter of opinion. You don't pay a player to be a good role model. That really should come along with the player as a package deal. If you are wanting to pay him to solely be a role model, then give him a coaching job, which doesn't count against the cap and pay him as much as you want to.

But as a player his cap number (and his salary) are overly inflated vs what he provides at this point in his career in terms of production. You really owe it to yourself to watch him block instead of relying on your memory of the "good ole days" when Witten was an effective, consistent blocker. Those days are long gone. His blocking effort really is actually pretty lackluster too, if you really want to get to call a spade a spade..

Guaranteed first down, even when he runs his route and gets tackled 2 yards shy of the sticks? We say way too much of that the last few years. The Witten that you fondly remember left us about 3 years ago.

I think Dez has about 2 more years max before he falls off significantly.

Again... you give me the game to watch and I'll do it. You like to make statements without evidence to back you up, I think it's because there is none.

I may have read his stats wrong..l am not a stat guy...but it seems he had 33 first downs on 69 receptions...ave. 9.8 yds per reception. Still seems reliable. Not great...but not bad either. Good for one more year. Like all players will need to be replaced soon.

I think you like to argue and troll. LOL. You are going on ignore.
