Its his toy...he bought it...with his own money...and he wants to call the shots on this deal.

Deal with it.

He puts talent on the field for the most part.

No organization runs a perfect ship...none of them have. Jerry has made some questionable contracts....but so have many other teams. He likes to pay his guys...and everyone should want a boss like that.

Im with Deieon Sanders on this one....this sport is about talent on the field...not culture. Dallas has put talent on the field.

Dallas issue has been with Playoff game planning and our coaches getting out schemed.

There's been no need to do some trailblazing QB switch unless the coaches, scouts and hired consultants inform the Jones's that Dak as a VERY detrimental flaw in his game that they think prevents Dak from excelling in Playoffs. Couch coaches screaming the guy has playoff yips aint gonna bring a QB switch.

Just deal with it

Here’s an example of ”pressure on the wrong people”….

How about all the new assistant coaches on the staff like Mike Zimmer for an easy example being on a one year deal? They inherited a tough environment they had nothing to do with and have been given one year to turn it around with a roster that is less talented (on paper) than last year.

The Cowboys are the only professional sports franchise in the USA that has the same GM in the 21st century that it had in the 20th century.

No other NFL team has an owner insisting on being GM. Even Mike Brown gave that up.
Cool. Doesn't matter. There are bad GMs and there are GMs that find a QB. There is no correct path forward.

It's also crazy that people care about the technicality of the GM title, since it is obviously Will McClay.

Before you say it, every owner has final say on signings. None of them give autonomy to big-ticket items.

Name the NFL teams winning championships that are run like the Cowboys?

Last time I checked the winning owners of the last 28 SBs all hired someone else to be their GM. Sure the owners all have final say but they also delegate the GM duties to someone else and if they don’t get results, they are fired.

If you think Will McClay is the “shadow GM” you aren’t paying any attention to what is both said and done in Dallas.

That was beyond obvious with Garrett and the ancient coordinators that would work for him.

McCarthy isn’t a bad coach, it’s just that Shanahan and LaFleur are much better.

Yup, out-schemed when it matters most, for a very long time now.

Bob usually has some excellent posts. Lately he’s been very critical and for good reason. But yeah, it’s like a broken record.

Sure having a great QB is critical. But the chiefs don’t win last year without that D. Held the ravens to 10 points on the road in the AFC Championship game while Mahomes had an average day scoring only 17. Mahomes had a poor first half in the SB but the chiefs D kept them in the game until Mahomes got hot. With the D we‘ve had in Dallas last few years we couldn’t win with Mahomes.

And good GMs matter a TON. Quick example …how did the chiefs get Mahomes? They traded up. They did their homework and were aggressive. Mahomes was not ranked as a top ten pick in that draft. But the chiefs thought so and we’re aggressive to get him. Think that could happen in Big D?

The chiefs GM Brett Veach is in his 40s (as opposed to 81) and is a genius at making the cap work while having Mahomes on a giant contract and still being able to re-sign the great DT Chris Jones and the best best K in the game this week in a market setting contract. They have also been one of the best drafting teams in the league and are aggressive in trades and FA. Our FO can’t seem to figure out how to make the cap work.

The “all you need is a great QB” argument is IMO, a lazy, oversimplified argument. Great TEAMS win championships and that certainly includes great QBs. But if that’s all it takes why didn’t Dan Marino ever win one? Dan Fouts? Aaron Rodgers has won one. Because it takes more than a great QB to win a SB.

Like what are we even talking about?

Brett Veach probably doesn't even have his job if the Bills weren't stupid enough to trade down in 2017. Buffalo has botched one leadership hire after another all the way to getting Josh Allen. None of that has anything to do with exceptional owners or leadership hires lol

The pressure is on the wrong people in the Cowboys organization. Healthy organizations hold the people at the top accountable for results. If they don’t get the results desired they are replaced. Not in Big D.

Here the owner holds mid and low-level people accountable for mistakes made at the top. It’s completely dysfunctional. Here’s the undeniable truth of all healthy organizations: If the people at the top are not held accountable, you can have no accountability anywhere else in that organization. This the foundational flaw that makes all of this 28 year playoff drought so maddening.

I‘m all for putting pressure on coaches and players to perform at the highest level with focus, discipline and execution. Those men are professionals. Good leaders hold everyone accountable for results. But if they themselves are not accountable while the mid and lower level people are, it creates an organizational cancer that left unaddressed just festers.

As a lifelong Cowboys fan I want this team to win every game every year including this year. But I also have to be honest when I look at this organization and think, “Will this year be any different?” I just can’t say “yes” until something changes. I will happily be wrong if a miracle happens.
Bob, we are not doing squat as long as Jerry is in charge.
The sooner us long time fans accept this painful reality, the easier it is.
