Since I can't run anymore (bad knees via military), I started walking 3 miles a day. Did pretty good, lost about 35 lbs.

Wow you must be really strict because it looks like you take in mostly carbs.

Anti-carb diets are for the birds. I eat oatmeal, pasta, ceral, etc and it's a non-issue. Carbs are actually good for you, especially on days you work out. The idea is not to make them the center of your diet and don't eat the empty carbs/calories. (sugars etc) I eat lots of vegggies, learn meats, etc. But especially in the mornings I eat carbs. (mostly oatmeal)

I like Oatmeal but I always have to have brown sugar in it.

What do you put in yours?

I usually drink a blueberry and banana smoothie with vanilla protein and oatmeal in it.

If I don't use protein i'll use yogurt and throw in some OJ.

I try, 2 times in the 3 months I have had pizza, 2 times chicken wings. I also try to snack only on fruit, half an apple, and orange, some cherries... or what ever is in season.

Big thing is to fool yourself into "variety" make the salad with slightly different veggies/fruits or change the dressing ( again measuring everything is key)

When you pour cereal I have to measure because if you just pour it... the serving is immense.

After 3 weeks or so it is enough food...

Oh and try not to eat anything after 6:00pm

Got off my blood pressure meds and 1 of my diabetic meds, reduced the dosage on my colesterol in half and the dosage on another diabetes med from 45mg to 30mg...

Congrats man that is great.

I used to be 308 but got as low as 225 and am sitting around 255 right now and I had to use meal replacements. I felt like that worked for me because I didn't have to be as strict.

The way you do it though you get to eat more food than I did. 2 of my 3 meals a day came out of a cup lol. But my 1 meal I did have I could have anything I wanted.

I worked on the elliptical last night for about an hour. So much easier on the knees and back than running. That will probably be the weapon of choice going forward.

I either eat oatmeal with a little sugar and milk, or with apples and cinnamon.

I used to eat heavy protein but stopped it. I was trying to cut my weight down, but while taking the protein I couldn't get below 198lbs. When I stopped eating it, I dropped to 191lbs which is where I've been for several months now. I was trying to get to 185lbs, but that just isn't working. :laugh2:

The only place I have extra weight is right on the stomach and I just can't bring myself to do more than an hour of cardio three days a week. I also don't eat an extremely strict diet either. (I prefer to be happy and healthy vs just super healthy)

Thats what I did two days ago. It is much easier, but did you notice any soreness afterwards? I felt it on the ball of my big toe. I suppose that is where my weight was landing. I had never did the ellipticals for an entire hour before then so I get it just never got that bad.

No soreness, but I did experience a little numbing in my right big toe after about 45 minutes. Fairly common from what I understand, especially for runners who are used to pushing off on the toe when they run. My sis-in-law (elliptical junkie) said I should try to consciously adjust my distribution more evenly by keeping my heel on the step at all times. Difficult to do, though.

Catch, about eating late: I find that it is best just to have around some popsicles. It can give your need to chew something a relief and most of them are zero calories. Something to thing about.

Thanks man.

Something with sodium is usually what I start craving.

Chips, cereal, popcorn, stuff like that. Beer too.

I just try and fight the urge until it's time to go to sleep and I never wake up with the hunger pains I had the night before.

I lost weight pretty quickly by doing portion control. I was always hungry at first but now when I eat as much as I used to I feel sick. Just goes to show you that you aren't actually hungry, and if you are like I was, your stomach might be stretched out due to overeating.

100% correct, It is amazing when you measure how much food you actually take in. Especially cereal, look for high fiber, low sugar cereals (like kellogs bran buds, serving size is 1/3 of a cup and it is only 80 calories without milk and 44% of your daily fiber requirements)

I used to be a just pour the food guy... same thing with Chicken wings if you go out and treat yourselk just have 5 skip the fries.

Salads people pour the dressing like there is no tomorrow... 1 table spoon mixed in goes a long way.

It all about discipline, you stomach becomes acustomed to smaller portions after a few weeks.

Anyone use an ab wheel? I do them three times a week. They are absolutely brutal when you start out doing them. (you will be sore!) It will give you abs of steel. (even if it's covered over by a layer of fat! :laugh2: )

Though I noticed most "how tos" about the ab wheel, don't show how to work the obliques with it. They just go straight forward and back in. One rep should be rolling out to the right, center, then left. Do that ten to 12 times is one set.
