The real reason why Jerry Jones hired Brian Schottenheimer instead of a big-name coach

Wow, a lot of big names. So, we could have hired any of these guys and the fans would be pleased? Ben Johnson was going to Chicago no matter what.
No idea, I was simply answering your question as to what a big name coach is.

I don't believe any of these were available, and I'm one of the very few who is happy w/ the Schotty hire.

It’s of course clear that Jerry and son prefer to work with people they are familiar with in some fashion, whether that’s previous employees of the Dallas Cowboys, or veterans who have been in the league long enough for Jerry to feel comfortable with them. Sure, that’s part of what you are seeing with Schottenheimer but that’s not the only thing at play here. I think it’s also clear that Jerry and son never anticipated McCarthy telling them to kick rocks and thusly they never made any real plans to replace him. Coaching searches require diligence and planning. Even though the McCarthy hire was not inspired, I do believe it was planned and in the works for a long time. McCarthy was ultimately qualified even if he failed to reach his targets here in Dallas. Schottenheimer is not qualified by any reasonable standard. He has a relatively undistinguished career as a coordinator and was not on the interview circuit for any other team either as a HC or a coordinator. He did not have recent success that could make one think he might have improved as a coach. This whole fiasco basically reeks of unpreparedness, alongside the usual Jones’ habit of sticking with comfort.

With all that said, you never can really predict which coaches will succeed, and which will fail. Perhaps Schottenheimer will be a great manager of people and allow his coordinators to do their job and do it well. Maybe he knows how to wrangle the Jones clan to make effective decisions in player acquisition. maybe he can navigate the politics of this organization exceptionally well. We shall see. I think Eberflus is a good DC and if they hire a capable OC there could yet be success if Schottenheimer does have those people qualities which are harder to observe and quantify. But even if that turns out to be true, it will be all luck and no wisdom that led to that outcome from Jones and son as the entire interview process has been an utter sham.

I'm convinced that Jerry has hired Brian Schottenheimer to make Dak more comfortable with his presence. Since he's been involved with the current offensive schemes, it would serve Dak's interest well to keep the same system intact. In Jerry's mind it's likely that he sees Dak as the main financial expenditure of the team. As such, the mistake of hiring Schottenheimer is facilitated to make Dak's failed expenditure justifiable. One big mistake was made to justify another -- it's typically flawed thinking that a huge ego demands to save face. That's Jerry for you; think about it. It's all about him.
100% it was to keep the offense close and make it easy on Dak since he was so upset with MM leaving.

"distrust" of outsiders is letting him off the hook. it's hubris, he thinks knows the way and 30 years of not making it past round 2 isn't enough to change his mind.

When Jerry makes political moves like hiring an interim coach in waiting first, guess what? Everyone on the outside sees this, and not one great coach would even consider coming to Dallas.

I just asked who is a big name coach?
Well the big names have been available , but jerry showed no interest in them, and after bill signed with UNC, the only big name left
was pete carroll, and he didnt want to come here.
See one thing many dont realize is that good coaches that have other teams interested in them are not going to come here.
They know what goes on here, and are not interested.

Fans wanted ben johnson, but he signed quickly with chicago, and probably had no desire to come here, and jones boys had no
thoughts of hiring him.
Fans wanted deion, because he is deion lol but he didnt want to come here either, at least not at this point in time.

Shot to me is a good hire for jerry, lets see how he does.

Don't wish Musk upon us.. we have enough problems..
Musk has a tendency to be successful at what he does, and he always demands excellence.

The Cowboys have been severely lacking in both of those areas for 3 decades.

Please Elon……BUY THE COWBOYS!!
