If he is still a Probowl level QB (and I think he is) then we should be able to trade him since there are many QB needy teams who are close to contending

Can't have it both ways

The ONLY reason to cut/release him would be to make him happy at the expense of the team and a well run football would not make that decision

No one is "paying attention", that is rubbish
Players go where the money is, period
DAL isn't signing anyone.......we don't need to trade or cut Romo at all

We could eat his whole 24.7m cap hit and still have 25-35m to not spend on anyone

Keep him or get a banquet of picks like RS said

Jerry will do right which will in turn endear him to the current and future players on the Cowboys. You don't hurt players on
the team who was a teammate all the way this past year. Players are looking. No one really cares what you think anyway.
If you followed the Cowboy way close enough, you would already know how Jerry will handle this situation.

Oh...And btw, you're guessing like everyone else. So spare me the I've got it figured out angle. You don't.

So you let the player hurt the team?
Yeah, that makes total sense
Help DEN beocme a SB contender that might beat us twice and don't even make them pay for it

That is genius and should win JJones GM of the Year and maybe UNICEF's Charity Man of the Year

The picks just went up again.

Eventually Garoppolo or McCarron or both will get traded
Someone will overpay
I hope we are the ones who get overpaid but I doubt jerry has the gumption to keep his powder dry

And most teams appear confident to wait it out. It is what they do when looking at Dallas.

For whatever reason, you don't see the Cowboys as sellers, usually buyers and desperate ones at that.

I cannot even recall the last time we brokered a successful trade of one of our own players since Johnson left the building.

Already know your answer, but thought I would enlighten the board with my wealth of knowledge, just to establish a historical trade basis.... for the weak hearted, might want to grab some tissues now .. lol

Crayton had to wait five months, but he ultimately got his wish when we traded him away for a 7th round pick to SD.
The very same day the Cowboys also dealt away 2006 7th Round pick Pat McQuistan to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 6th Round pick.

We also traded Sean Lissemore to the San Diego Chargers in exchange for a 7th Round pick (2015).
It’s interesting to note that this trade was also with the Chargers, so two of the last three trades (Crayton and Lissemore) have both been made with San Diego.

All after JJ...

Calling SD,,, oh , you still have Rivers,,, dang.. phone drop

Players don't care about that crap...only FO sycophants falling for lame excuses

JJones has the rest of Romo's life to baby him...he can give him 20m a year to shake hands at the Star once he retires......wouldn't FAs notice that too????

I'm hoping for a 3rd and a conditional 5th that could become as high as a 2nd. Something like that.

As you state yourself...Tony is going somewhere and if he stays reasonably healthy will certainly help his team be better than without
him...Just like he's done for years with the Cowboys. Watch and learn, fellows.

Not in this case they don't. Money is FAR from Romo's top concern.

And of course they pay attention. And in business, good-will DOES have value. The league-wide rep of Jerry is that he is loyal to players that have been loyal to him long term. Players want to play for this organization...in part because the owner the last 25 years hasn't been a awesome person to players.

I don't know what will happen. They will assess the trade value of a player who can play at a pro bowl level IF HEALTHY FOR A SEASON but who may get injured right away too.

And this IS different. They are telling a player he can't fairly compete for a job that he very well might win if given the chance. I get it....but if you're going to have someone grab their ankles like that--and someone who has given everything (including body parts) to you for years, just maybe a bit of good-will is not out of line.

Hey, ideally they get a draft pick AND he goes to a contender. But that list is small and there are big reason for those teams not give up valuable picks on a gamble.

Because Tony will not get his ring playing for the Cowboys, expect Jerry to help him get a ring with another team... Just expect it. Just like he
did with DeMarcus Ware. Jerry knows that Tony getting his ring will establish Jerry's faith in the Romo experiment. Jerry wins and eventually
Dallas Wins!

Long post that says nothing
Players go to teams for 2 reasons

1. Money
2. Win a championship

No one cares how you 'treated' another player years ago
Players understand this is a business and Romo is under contract

Are you telling me that if the Cowboys keep Romo and go to the NFCCG but Romo is the back up that other players won't sign here?

That is sheer nonsense
You're grasping at straws

This is all falling into place. It will probably take awhile just because of how many draft picks are involved.

I don't think some are taking into account the full picture here.
They are telling a pro bowl level QB that he is not going to get to compete for the job he lost by injury fair and square.
I won't argue the pros or cons of that..and I am a Dak fan too.
But it unusual.
Romo 100% took the high road last year as he always does.

In return for not getting to compete, and to go with all the other massive good-will he has built up here his entire career with the front office, that ups the odds of a release.

The rest of league is paying attention as well...especially other players.

The front office and entire coaching staff knows that Romo is a much better QB than Dak, and it's driving them crazy.

The problem is, you just can't bank on his back. They want Romo here because it's quite likely he'd be needed at some point. However, Romo already did that, and he's ready to go chase a title elsewhere before his time is up.

Jerry values his relationship with Romo too much to risk it over a draft pick.

Living near Houston I hope he goes there and does well, their insufferable fans who root against the Cowboys more than they root for their own team would be hilarious

This isn't Steve Pelluer.

This is the guy that covered Jerry's incompetent tracks for years and made the team far more respectable than it was. This is Jerry's third son.

Jerry wants him here. If not, he wants him happy. That will be done.
