Apparently Jerry Jones wants to build this offense around Romo and his strengths (Mobility, Arm Strength, Quick Release?). How do you think this offense can change to use Romo to the best of his abilities.

Give him better protection so he is not having the leave the pocket as quickly as he does to avoid taking sacks or having OL players pushed back into his lap so that he can step up and throw. I would also add more running game so that Dallas can use the play action more often within the passing game. Hard to sell Play action when the defense is not buying it.

For starters, protect him better. No brainer there, I know...but that upgrades the effeciency tremendously right there.

I already think he and Dez made a huge breakthrough the second half of last year, so if that trends the same it is a big upgrade as well. Go down field with him and let him dominate the defender.

Better, less predictable playcalling will maximize him too...but you need a line to run it effectively.

Short timing routes to the young guys (now that they know where they're going) could help to.

I suspect Callahan has some ideas.

I agree with this post.

However, while the team tries to implement ways to build towards Romo's strengths the team should also develop a way to win ball games other than Romo's arm alone.

I agree but I think much of the predictability comes into play when you fail on 1st and 2nd down leaving yourself is 3 and long. I think Dallas does mix it up on 1st down between run and pass but you got to execute it. If players fail or have a penalty then you put yourself in a situation where the defense knows you must pass to move the chains.

Easy - as Emmitt Smith says - give him an offensive line like Brady or Manning where he has time to drink tea, eat a little suppin', have a manicure, wait for his receivers to come free - then throw strikes all day in an unicumbered fashion...

It makes all the difference, but that's a dream.

Fwiw, at least two other teams and QBs are having this same issue: Chicago's Cutler and especially San Diego's Rivers. Those guys are getting bludgeoned.

Step 1: A pass defense that does not rank in the bottom 8 for three years running. Last year we had a 94.7 passer rating against. For his career Drew Brees has a passer rating of 94.3. This feels like a DirecTV commercial, but the advice there is "don't make every quarterback like Drew Brees"

Step 2: Don't have an offensive line that results in a bottom-of-the-league rushing game and your quarterback breaking his bones every year.

This was simple to write and painful to think about.

When tony has time he's one of the best in the league. When he feels pressure he throws 5 picks a game. He has too much pressure on him and he needs it taken away. I.e a good running game and a turnover hungry defense. We have more fumbles and picks it'll set us in the right direction

Brady gets rid of the ball quick.

You give him or Peyton Manning any OL and they will adjust.

The problem is Garrett doesn't adjust to his Oline. We're running receivers 30 yards downfield and not giving Romo enough quick options.

WR run 30 yards down field because plays are busted and DL players are in the back field getting after Romo. WR then break their routs and look for the open spots and yes often that is deep down field.

It is not pay calling it is poor protection that allow plays to break down before they start. There are no calls to stop break downs in protection

This. Keys to getting the most from Romo:
  1. Improve the o-line.
  2. Improve execution.
  3. Emphasize creating turnovers on defense so the offense has a shorter field.

Didn't Romo have an OL a few years ago with two Pro Bowlers ... Bigg and Gurode?

I agree. Dallas avg 28 points a game over the last 8 games of the season defense was giving up a ton of points.

I don't take blame off Garrett as HC he is responsible for the play of this team and their execution if they fail to execute it is his job to do something about it. As for play calling no plays work when players fail to execute the play. If you drop the ball or you get cuaght holding and set the team back then down and distance will give the defense a damn good ideal of what you are about to run. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out on 2 and 15 or 2nd and 20 what play is about to be ran, they know it is pass they come after the QB. Romo is getting these snaps and having to avoid pressure that has to change until it does the plays that are called will not matter

I am baffled that anyone that watches the games or reads up on the NFL could think that either quarterback is our biggest weakness or that this is such a strong QB class that it would be worth taking one anyways.

Jerry is going to force Romo to get the ball out early into a tight window, no more pulling the ball down. This will get interesting, be careful what you wish for lads.;)
