The scouting report on Taco is much different than what many people are claiming

You are going off of published stats, I assume. The word on the street was that Ware played over 270 and ran in the 4.5s. But regardless he was super fast (freakishly) for a man as big as he was. That much really isn't a source of debate. My point is that Ware was successful in part because he was big AND FAST. He was a hall of fame caliber player.

I have never said Taco can't be successful because of his speed (or lack thereof), but it certainly is a factor that won't work to his benefit.

Tony Mandarich ran a 4.65 at 330 lbs. Tony Mandarich was also "big and fast".

He ended up as one of the top 5 busts in NFL history.... size and speed are nice, but by themselves guarantee nothing.

There is nothing wrong with having optimism, or pessimism regarding a pick. You can take whatever approach you want to take as it pertains to a player.

I am optimistic about Tapper. He may totally suck. But time will tell. Discussing the various views on players is what makes this site fun.

XWalker is much more optimistic on Taco than I am. But I enjoy his posts as much as any poster on this website. We generally agree on most things here. But it's always fun to discuss it.

If Taco gets 16 sacks this year I will be cheering just as loud as anyone in my seats as a season ticket holder. If you don't want to have an opinion that's fine. But don't get all upset over a discussion about our favorite team.

At one point in my statement did you deduce that I was all upset at something? You want an opinion ok, to make a judgment if Taco will be a good or bad NFL player after the FIRST week of practice is STUPID, that's my opinion. There, how was that?

If Charlton ends up with more than 3.5 sacks this year, he will outproduce pass rushers selected at or slightly later than his draft position over the last 20 years. He needs work, but does have some tools to work with. His arm length is good, he can shock offensive tackles with his hands, and he's pretty flexibile for a long player. He is inconsistent off the ball, and needs to work on his take off. Marinelli should be able to help develop this in him. I don't think that he will have a big impact this year, but by his second year, he will be a solid contributor. He has some similar traits to Greg Ellis and Tony Tolbert, but better size than both.

What's intriguing to me about this kid is his weight. He is 270 and looks like a skinny basketball player. His frame can put on a lot of muscle still. Also the fact that he played a lot of last season with a high ankle injury and still had 10 sacks. Plenty of raw talent there imo.

speed rush to the outside, getting the OT off his steps, then blitz Jaylon in the gap...when the guard moves over to cover that, you have man-boy Collins gobbling up whatever is left...

That's not what was being reported after the draft.

Right. The choice was down to Taco or CB's Kevin King and Chidobe Awuzie. They decided the CB pool was deeper and went with Taco. They were thrilled Awuzie was still there in the 2nd. Stephen Jones even said they were getting anxious and had a "twinge" to trade up to get Chidobe. It all worked out.

Taco is going to have to flat out convince me he's not just a marginal player. I'm just a fan so I don't have anything but my eyes to guide me. He doesn't have a quality that stands out...with guys like Lewis and chidobe you see it right away. You see what makes them stand out from the rest.

Taco just seems slow and kind of looks like he's falling when he runs. It's completely biased and doesn't have real research but it's my view on him..

All the kids are long shots. They need some time to develop. Especially the big lineman...its easy to say the DB or other smaller players look so much more ready!! They are...its the nature of athletes. Give "taco" a little more time. Its early for the "big" boys.
