According to a source, Spencer’s one-year deal contains no signing bonus but can be worth up to $3.5 million.

He has a base salary of $1.25 million and up to $750,000 in roster bonus money based on him being on the active roster in each game. Spencer has additional incentives totaling 1.5 million in sacks and playing time.

Sounds like a pretty fair deal all the way around.

Sound like a low risk contract.

This the most crucial part right here. I'm also loving these incentive-based contracts lately.

It does have a good bit to do with some of the circumstances involved. Melton and Spencer are both injury cases.

Spencer in particular could not pass anyone's physical when he made free agent visits. Makes the signing much easier and "team friendly". It does not speak much beyond the simple reality of the situation with him.

Exactly, and I'm glad that we aren't simply throwing money at them out of desperation. Make them work for it.

I'll put the over/under on Spencer's sacks next year at 2 and I'll take the under.

Well, we would be pretty sad and bad off if we threw money at injured players. But I guess we should rejoice since common sense was applied.

It certainly could have been worse. I'm not so sure we would have been as patient with these signings in years past.

If Spencer can return and be 75 percent of the player he was and we get another 2 pass rushers in the draft that can contribute we should have a decent rotation.

Or maybe just nod our collective heads and say "good".

You can go to an extreme and claim rejoicing though...
