I almost laughed out loud as I drove by the Superdome to my hotel recently. I couldn't believe how small the place was. I was expecting a huge stadium. I would bet 3 Superdomes would be the equivalent to the Cowboys stadium in size. When I asked the Uber driver what was going on w/ the roof.....he told me about the on going lawsuit between the company that applied the coating to the roof...that was suppose to keep it clean...and the city. It's costing the city of New Orleans 250,000.00 to clean it after only 3 years. And now there is a fight as to who is going to pick up the tab.

Anyway...thought it was funny...because the aura that was the Superdome...crashed for me last week. You hear about the great home field advantage that place is for the Saints. Sadly..It's surrounded by hundreds of homeless people...It a depressing place.

I gotta give New Orleans credit though...they do love their Saints. When Brees got hurt vs the Rams..I happen to be bar hopping from one place to another...only to see one Saint fan after another ready to cash in the season. Face in palms...tears flowing...utter disbelief as the Rams crushed them in LA.

What I took away from that was this...this is a brittle fan base right now. We go into their house....put up 2 scores in the 1st....we might just roll these guys..because...all their hopes went down w/ Brees.

Anyway....Enjoy the pictures.

The Astrodome was called the 8th Wonder of the World when it opened in 1966.

Newer usually means bigger as shown below with the new stadium next to the Astrodome.

It’s a 44 year old stadium that has been through hurricanes and flooding - of course it’s not bigger and better than the stadiums being built today.
Many posters weren’t alive when it was built
It does seat 73k so that’s probably big compared to stadiums in 1975

My favorite venue, Texas Stadium, was no less a dump than the Superdome, but it was my dump. The feeling of walking in that storied stadium was incredible.

The Saints are soon putting a ton of money into the Superdome for renovations and upgrades. That's a good thing for the City.
See there, that's the difference between the Cowboys and the New Orleans dummies that built a city in a bowl under sea level. When our stadium gets old and becomes a dump, we replace it and tear down the dump. The New Orleans dummies are going to soon put a ton of money in there dump that is still going to be in a bowl under sea level. But please folks show compassion? Yeah, right.

Hold on, you’re saying we get an even number home and away divisional games each year?!?!?!!

I suppose I was just being humorous on Gameday..

I’ll calm down..
Actually, those are Conference games, but yeah, same with Divisional games.

Show a bit of respect, guys. Would you want someone trashing your house because it didn't have the same shiny exterior as theirs? The Boston Red Sox play in a stadium that opened 5 days after the Titanic sunk in 1912. It's one of the few stadiums I have left on a bucket list. NO ONE gives the Red Sox crap about their home.

I been there and though many would call it a dump compared to stadiums even built in the 70's. The old cookie cutter style stadiums. And especially to stadiums now days.
But it was cool. It had character and probably still does.
I wouldn't mind seeing a game at Wrigley Field too.

We may have a nicer stadium, but they have a better GameDay experience. Their fans put ours to shame when it comes to noise.

We've beaten the Saints on the road before but not often.
"We've"

first off weve done nothing but think about this,

who currently on this team anyone as a DC has gone to the Superdome , at night, and when both teams have great records and WEVE won..?

I dont think this team not even the CORE stars as unit has played NO in the SD and WON..isnt this Daks first time playing in the SD EVER?

the thing they nee dto worry about most is not being able to HEAR the calls and snap counts and audibles etc..its going to be LOUD as all get out and that could kill the communication on offense and if they try to get cute with lots of formations and movements they may have a lot of false starts and sets not ready(delay of games etc) or some players not hearing the play correctly..they may have to dumb the game plan down but go simple , Run , try and get ahead and quiet the crowd a bit..

Hmmm. I just did that recently in SF, LA and NYC.

Yeah I was just in San Fran this summer and it was super bad. It was a big deal in the media there but not many have any answers.

From what I've been reading, NO will be under water in the next 50 years. I won't be around by then but some of you younger people might want to make the trip just to say you saw it back in the day before it disappeared...

I almost made mention of this in another thread myself but didn't want to risk a climate change debate. It is definitely a place I feel I just have to see for myself, while it is still there.

Lived there when it opened and the second night of the grand opening was Southern Rock night with a great lineup for an all day party. The exhaust system fouled up and the cops weren't arresting anybody smoking pot, just standing around and probably happy for the non-violent crowd but about 6 o'clock everyone noticed the cloud at the top of the dome, it was a pot cloud and so thick that it actually began to mist on the people on the floor. There was so much smoke and the humidity level helped create that according to the weather guy on WVUE the next night when the news anchor kept asking how this could happen and everyone was just wanting him to let it go. I never did hear if the people on the floor were getting contact highs but we did see the mist from our seats.

It was something when it was built and not many venues back then where you could go to a college game and get cocktails. It was a really large bar with an indoor football field. You couldn't even get beer at the old Texas Stadium back then.

Actually as popular and historic as the French quarter is it's a major dump in itself. The last time I was there you still had to literally had to step over drunk homeless bodies on the sidewalk.

yup....hasn't changed.

I actually feel bad for those people. I for the life of me can't understand how someone can just stop...drop...and sleep where ever their bodies fall. And you see it everywhere there. In doorways...under over passes...sidewalks. Sad situation in America. :(

The Superdome became the world’s largest porta-potty during Katrina. I’ll never get past that.

yeah....that crossed my mind quite a bit while I was there. I can't even imagine the hell hole that place was. One of the uber drivers I was w/ was telling me the looting was so bad...the cops quit trying to stop them. The city finally had to call in troops/ national guard to enforce marshall law...to stop the pillaging. Sad times. :(

You know they haven't rebuilt the whole city. The 9th ward is mostly abandoned, half the old population moved to Houston and other surrounding areas (murder rates went up and the pop. is still down 60K), the Feds rebuilt and upgraded the levee system at a cost of $50B, Mercy Hospital, the old trauma center, is abandoned, Mayor Nagin was indicted on 21 counts and convicted on 20 counts of Fed corruption. NOLA is a cesspool. I haven't been back there since 1999 and I only live 4.5 hour drive from there. I have a hard time seeing NOLA as a destination unless you're a 19 year old party drunk ... except maybe for Cowboy games. In fact I try to avoid ALL of corrupted La..

You should talk to some of the spec ops guys that went into the city after Katrina and the quality of the people. And before you get all high and mighty I'll add that my area was devastated by Hurricane Rita 3 weeks later (stronger storm) and they didn't have to bring in sniper teams to cover helicopter rescues nor troops to maintain order. And none for the 3 disasters since then either , which NOLA has remained untouched since 2005.

That's right....I forgot my Uber driver tell me and my wife that ....I still find that hard to believe....people are only there trying to help. Still can't understand that thinking.
