I believe Chow has said numerous times that he doesn't want to be a head cocah. And trust me he is a great coach.

This is incorrect. Norm Chow has and continues to interview for HC jobs around the league. Norm Chow definatly has interest in being a HC in the NFL.

Fair enough but I say we have a team that is very close to being good enough to challenge for a championship. That opportunity is not going to last forever. We might have 3 or 4 good years to win one. Your taking a pretty big risk by bringing in somebody who has zero experience as HC and little to no track record of success as a position coach. Honestly, you have to give this guy at least 3 years to prove himself. If he isn't the guy, you pretty much wasted your window of opportunity. Even if you bring in an experienced HC, it's going to take at least a season, maybe more, to get us ready. Things are going to change. Offense, defense, coaching staff, all is going to change to some degree or another. It's a pretty big risk to take IMO.

And if you bring in an old guy and he doesnt work out then you wasted 3 years and have to start over anyway. This franchise has been retreading for far too long. At least we are looking to the future.

Fair enough. I agree it's a big risk but so was bringing in Jimmy. There will be a learning curve no doubt but at least it will be toward the future. Sorry about my response on Chow I thought he had said he didn't want to be a head coach.

What is it with you guys?

How is Rivera or Ryan or even a guy like Lovie Smith old? Everybody wants this job. We pretty much have our pick of HCs IMO. I think you need to re-evaluate your position and think this thing threw. All these guys have proven something in the NFL. Not so with Garrett as HC IMO. He may have a lot of promise but that's not the same as being able to get it done.

I'll ask this question again. If we bring in a talented QB, would you start him as a rookie or would you sit him and let him learn?

I agree, Jimmy was succesful but ask yourself this, If Jimmy had not made the trade with the Vikes, would he have been as succesful as he turned out to be? I gotta tell you that I think the answer to that is probably no. He may still have been succesful to a degree but I doubt we would have enjoyed the kind of success we did in the early 90s. That is a once in a life time thing. That's not the rule, it's the exception. The NFL is different now. In the here and now, Jimmy Johnson probably could not duplicate what he did in the early 90s. Lets also not forget that while Jimmy Johnson may not have had any NFL experience back in 89, he did have 10 years of HC experience at the Colligate level with one of those being the University of Miami, one of the most high profile programs in the country. He also had BIG TIME game experience with one NC and playing in another. He was very succesful at that level with 5 Bowl games in 5 years and a combined record of 52-9. There is a big difference, IMO (Experience wise) in Jimmy when he became HC and Garrett should he become HC.

I agree completely, I am tired of hearing let's wait until next year ansd bide our time. Fisher was hired young as well and has not won a Super Bowl yet. Cowher is not a proven commodity. If you are looking at recent history The 2006 Steelers left a lot to be desired. I'd feel alot more comfortable with Norv's fiery young prodigy than with Norv again. Look at Ernie Zampese, Norv was a Zampese product and had MUCH more success here than Zampese.

Dude, he's gone to the SB twice and won one. What other proof do ya want.....

I agree with you 100% on all of that. Also I wasn't trying to compare him to Jimmy (I should have worded it better). I was just trying to point out that it was a risk to bring him in with his college staff into the world of the NFL. It was a huge risk, but it worked. Maybe this is a risk worth taking.

I would agree with you. Big risk can mean big reward.

The thing is if you hit on a good young coach you could have decades of strong teams. With a legit chance to win it all yr in yr out. You get stability, think Pittsburgh and Cowher without losing free agents every year.

Pittsburgh has been up and down just like everybody else. Having the same HC year in and year out is no guarantee of stability.

Nothing wrong with that idea and I think it has a lot to do with the Jason hire. Nothing "silly" about your post...

I think there is. I think winning is way more important than having the same coach every year.

Oh, I don't know that I can agree with this.

Since Cowher's been named as HC of the Steelers, he has a combined record of 149-90-1.

In 14 years, he has never finished last in his Division. He has finished 4th once, 3rd 4 times, 2nd twice and 1st 8 times. He has been to two SuperBowls (won one/lost one), 6 Conference Championships and made the playoffs 10 of his 14 years in Pittsburgh. All this while continuously lossing both player to FA and coaches to other teams. There is no way on Gods green earth that I can look at his body of work and say that he has been up and down. Sorry, that does not hold water IMO.

they had a good run at the beginning of his career, two down years (when fans wanted him fired), another good run followed by a bad year when fans again wanted him gone, and then if they hadn't won the superbowl last year I bet they'd be glad to see him retire this year. That's up and down as far as I'm concerned.

OK besides experience, why wouldn't you want Garrett as head coach?
I have not heard a single negative thing about this guy. hell even Nate Newton likes the guy and wants him to be HC.

This guy has no enemy's
He went to an Ivy league School
he has been to 3 super bowls during his playing career.

Campo said it was basically Garrett that was coaching Aikman during his playing days.
