Sign me up. I support anything that deals with getting rid of Jones as a GM.

I guess others are perfectly content watching teams with real GMs win playoff gams and compete for titles, while the Cowboys haven't sniffed a single morsel of success once Jimmy's players aged/retired.

But hey, myself and others aren't true Cowboy fans because we don't want to back the idiot in charge 100%.

I can't help my curiosity.

Please post the name of the person who can be hired as the GM that will suddenly guarantee winning. I have to tell you that in all my years of football study I have never heard of that magical name. Please tell me the football equivalent of King Midas.

You can't be serious. There are tons of people out there who are WAY more qualified to be a NFL personnel executive than Jerry. You don't have to know a name, but I know they're out there. 3 yeas ago no one knew Mike Tomlin, Mike Smith, or John Harghbaugh but they proved to be winners so far.

Jones is just playing fantasy football with the Cowboys. Nothing more.

He can't identify talent. He knows nothing about building a TEAM. Jerry just sees a big name then throws money at the big name.

Look at some of the questionable characters he's paraded through VR.

Guys with mental issues: Demtrius Underwood and Alonzo Spellman.

Guys with questionable criminal and character issues: Owens, Pacman, Tank.

Those are just the recent ones, I'm probably missing a few more.

If Parcells and his guys didn't stumble upon Romo we'd still be combing the baseball minor leagues for a starting QB.

Pretty much calls his starting RB soft, then tries to spin his comment.

The guy constantly cuts the legs from under his coaches. Players don't fear or respect coaches because they know they can just run to Jerry. It's why Chan Gailey never got a real chance.

And this is the guy you guys want as the GM of the Cowboys? :lmao2:

And lets get one thing straight. I and other Cowboy fans will still watch the Cowboys because this isn't about the going against the Cowboys. This is about cutting away one of the pieces of cancer that is eating away at the Cowboys franchise.

Screw Jerry Jones.

Alot of Jerry's and the Cowboys recent misfortune is luck. The first year Tony Romo even started a game, we were a yard away from a very easy road to the SB against the Colts, a team we had already beat. That yard could have been a superbowl title, and Jerry would be the greatest talent scout/ GM on this earth.
The year after Jerry assembled a 13-3 team with the #1 seed in the nfc, and exited the playoffs by being eliminated by the superbowl champion Giants by 4 points.

It's a game of inches, and we've been on the short side for a while. I however will be pulling through that things go our way a little bit in the future.
You can go boycott your team. lol.

Players our GM drafted in recent years (some without listening to his 'football guys', some with listening to them)

DeMarcus Ware (He was a Jerry pick, Parcells wanted Spears)
Terence Newman
Andre Gurode
Bradie James
Orlando Scandrick
Felix Jones
Tashard Choice
Marion Barber, III
Jason Witten
Kevin Burnett
Nick Folk
Jay Ratliff

I'd say that's some pretty good drafting of high quality, core guys. He made the call on all of those.

Free agents he's signed...

Leonard Davis
Zach Thomas
Ken Hamlin
Terrell Owens

Say what you want about TO, but 2 out of the 3 years he's been here, he's been arguably the best wide receiver in football. Now that we were losers this past season, y'all are complaining about him. (doesn't that sound familiar)

Also, every last one of us were hoping and praying he'd bring in another receiver. The majority of us wanted Roy Williams. Guess what? He went out and got Roy Williams. He was praised when he did it. We all thought it was great. Now he's stupid for doing it. Well, then we're all stupid for wanting him, too. He needs a training camp to get in sync with this team. We all knew it then and we all know it now.

And do y'all realize Jerry did exactly what he wanted to do when it comes to replacing Troy Aikman? He wanted a bargain. He didn't want to invest a first round pick and a huge contract on a hit or miss player. It took a few years, but he did it. He found his franchise QB. Tony Romo, undrafted. (BTW, it took Troy Aikman 4 years to win a playoff game. It took Peyton manning 6 years to win one. Some of you are running Romo out of town after 2 and a half. Remember when Manning was the one that "couldn't win the big one"? Remember when both Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy's 'will to win' were being called into question?)

I don't know about you, but Jerry Jones has been a pretty good GM the last few years. He's taken some chances, yes. But this isn't egomaniac Jerry Jones we used to know. He's learned the right way to do things, for the most part. Find me another GM that's assembled the talent Jerry has through mostly the draft in this league.

tl, dr

But this is a tired argument. Parcells wanted Merriman at that spot, not Spears. The Postons is what prevented Parcells from taking Merriman, so he settled on Ware.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2449096&postcount=34

That is a complete myth.

Brian broaddus spent two days on espn radio back in august or september talking about all of the draft day happenings in the war room, where he was.

He spilled the beans on everything. And one of the myths he dispelled was that parcells wanted spears at 11.

He said parcells really wanted merriman and liked his attitude, but Stephen did not want to do business with the postons. Jerry then made parcells sit down with steven and himself in their office and explain to him that he wouldnt sign on time and would be a problem because of his agents.

On February 25, 1989 this team was sold into slavery. Jerry Jones began his era as the owner of the Dallas Cowboys with an almost foreshadowing of moves. He immediately fired the legend of a coach in Tom Landry. This move caused great discontent among a lot of fans of the team. Most believed that Landry was on his way out and that the league had passed him by, but also thought that his departure from this team could have happened in a much more appropriate way. This began what has become a fan’s nightmare of an era. The organization is caught in a stranglehold, and is not soon to be released.
I won’t go into any great detail about season to season guffaws, or bumbled moves on Jerry’s part. If you’re reading this, you already know the grim particulars and shouldn’t have to read about them again. I know I’ve tried to forget them myself. What I do want share are some very interesting facts.

No playoff wins in 13 years. (We are one of only 3 NFL teams to do this. Yes, the Oakland Raiders have won a playoff game since we have)
Without Jimmy Johnson, we would be staring at 30 years since a Super Bowl win.
A record of 163-147 in the 20 years he has been GM. Now let’s look at the bigger picture. Jerry got lucky with Jimmy. He got desperate when he hired Parcells. After the 3 super bowls in the 90’s, Jerry really had to dig deep to allow someone else to coach the team. His record outside of those two desperate/lucky hires? 58-70. That record truly reflects what it’s like for Jerry to run our team without a true football mind involved.

Pathetic, you say? Embarrassing? Well, you have but one person to point a finger at in blame. That’s your general manager and owner. He has single handedly brought this storied franchise to it’s knees. His relentless pursuit of credit for the success of this team, and his refusal to relinquish control and hand it over to a real football mind, has handcuffed the entire organization. In his mind, he is bigger than the organization itself. This mindset has brought you what you have today.
I call for you to do two things. First, boycott. Don’t buy anything Cowboys related. No tickets, jerseys, hats, beer mugs, pennants, etc. The only way a fan can affect the team it supports, is to stop supporting it financially. Not another dime, Jerry. Band together with me and thousands of other fans, and say no more to Jerry Jones as the general manager of this team.
Secondly, join me in taking the money I would have spent on Cowboys “stuff” and put it towards something that will voice how fed up as a fanbase we are. We will be gathering funds to put up a billboard in Irving, as close to Valley Ranch as we can get it. I’ve already been in contact with a dozen or more advertising agencies in the metroplex area, and have discovered that with just 1,000 fans contributing 10 bucks, we can hang one for a month. 10 bucks a month, and we can leave it up until, as a group, we decide to take it down, or start using the money to put more billboards. You may be thinking, “Jerry isn’t going to give a damn about some stupid billboard”. In this, you’re probably right. But, what it will do is openly embarrass Jerry publicly. It will bring to light the true number of Cowboy fans that have finally had their fill of Jerral Wayne Jones. By myself, I stand no chance. With your help, and dedication to this, we stand to point tremendous negative attention to what this man has done to our team. This must be done. We have no other choice unless we just sit back and take it, and I don’t think any of us want to do that.

As always with Jerry, I feel the biggest problem with him is ability to undermine the HC and the coaching staff. Say if TO has had problem with something and the OC is pissed at him and wants to bench him, well, Jerry will step in and baby TO. It happens all to often with Jerry, he's a go bettween for the players and those are the reasons he hurts the the Coaching staff. He also loves the limelight and he doesn't care if his players make the news because he feels all news is good news.

Ahh, but what do I know anyway?

Nowhere in this rambling, wandering, say nothing of substance bellyache is my question answered. In fact this is just a deflection of what I actually asked to what you want to gripe about.

I care about winning. Period. I am anxiously waiting for anyone to tell me that this team does not have talent assembled. Because that is the job of the GM. None of you who are tilting at windmills with this nonsense can deny that. Or maybe you can, but that wouldn't exactly make you look smart in the eyes of people who actually get it.

You guys seem to think that changing name plates on doors means the players will play better. That's nothing but a load of crap.

You know what the funniest thing about this childish tantrum is? You guys actually believe that Jerry Jones is going to step aside and not have any input in the football operations if he hires a GM. Let me explain the real world to you for a second. Not only is he not going to hire a GM, but even if by some miracle he did, and you guys got your wish, he would still have input on the operations of this team. Sorry to pop your balloons. It was such a nice pity party though.

I hate to tell you Don Quixote wannabes the truth, but there it is. Our GM is one of the few people doing his job. Hate the man all you want. Believe that he is some kind of albatross. Me, I'll stick with the facts in the real world because there are no curses or bad juju or voodoo that has been placed on this team causing it to lose because of who we have as the GM.

In case that wasn't clear enough, here it is again in plain simple English. Teams do not lose because of a GM. They lose because other teams are better or because they failed to execute. GMs do not have a Madden controller and are up in their box selecting the plays that are going to be run. They don't instruct the QB to throw an INT at a crucial time in the game against the eventual Super Bowl Champion. They assemble the talent for the staff to go to war. Period.

The identity of the GM of a football team has never, ever translated to wins and losses on a football field. How he does his job of acquiring talent does. That is the fact and it is irrefutable.

I now return you to your fantasies, pity parties, and sour grapes diets. No charge for the lesson in reality.

You know how sometimes you get this spur of the moment idea, and at the time it makes a lot of sense. Then you share it with some friends, and they agree that its a great idea while you all are half-lit drinking a few cold ones?

But then a few hours pass, or you wake up the following morning, and suddenly think "Man, that idea is really pretty dumb now that I think about it."

This whole "LETS STOP BUYING JERSEYZ AND INSTEAD BUY A BILLBOARD AND JERRY WILL FIRE HIMSELF!!!" idea really seems like one of those times.

Its just taking the OP a little longer to come to that sobering conclusion.

Click on the link. It says who is sponsoring it and over on the right those who are behind it. Notice they are usernames on a forum not their real names.

I can really see Jerry looking at usernames and thinking to himself, "wow, these guys are against me? I need to step down."

Honestly, this is a complete waste of time. If you feel like donating your money to a worthy cause pick a charity.
