My Top 5?

1971, 1977, 1992, 1993, and 1995.

Hopefully it's a Top 6 soon.

These are my Top 5 Favorite Cowboys not the Top 5 Overall or Greatest. I can't believe it but Emmitt doesn't make my Top 5. He would be 6th.

It's bogus without Bob Lilly. First player the Cowboys ever drafted, named to the All-time NFL team, and considered by some to be the greatest DT to ever play the game.

My list:

Roger Staubach
Emmitt Smith
Bob Lilly
Randy White
Troy Aikman

Dorsett has to get strong consideration for the top 5 also, and a guy most people don't think of that should at least be 10 probably is Larry Allen because he was probably one of the best couple of offensive linemen in history.

I assume you're not talking about our favorites ... rather the best the franchise ever had.

I'm not listing coaches or front office people. Just the best players.

1. Bob Lilly
2. Roger Staubach
3. Emmitt Smith
4. Troy Aikman
5. Michael Irvin

Followed closely by:

Tony Dorsett
Randy White

Others worth mentioning:

Mel Renfro
Larry Allen
Darren Woodson
Drew Pearson
Rayfield Wright
Chuck Howley
Lee Roy Jordan
Cliff Harris
Harvey Martin
Bob Hayes

I can't do a top five. I have a top six.

Lilly
Staubach
White
Dorsett
Aikman
Smith

And it's hard to leave Irvin off that list.

Great list. I would throw in Too Tall also. Everson Walls, Jay Novacek and Billy Joe Dupree are probably worth mentioning, but definetly down the list from the others.

I'm glad nobody has tried to throw in Dieon or Haley. Outstanding players, but they were short term rent-a-players.

I would change the order, but these are definitely the top guys.

Personal favorites:

Dat Nguyen
Deion Sanders
Darren Woodson
Ken Norton Jr.
Kenneth Gant (Shark Dance)

Best Ever (Can only really comment on those I've personally watched):

Troy Aikman
Emmitt Smith
Deion Sanders
Larry Allen
Erik Williams (People forget, but if he had stayed healthy he was on his way to becoming maybe the best tackle to ever play the game)

These are all good players, and I understand you may be pretty young, but Best Ever can't exclude 60% of the team's history.

I was going in chronological order. I was watching a 1970 game the other day. Lot's of great Cowboys on that roster. Pugh, Cole, Jordan, Howley, Renfro, even Adderley, Waters, White, Lilly and that's just the defense.

I should have noticed that.

Yes, the Doomsday Defense was pretty good. The 1970's were when the Cowboy's aura was created.
