Now here's a smart man - breaking it down by decade. It's hard to argue with any of this.

I guess we are still waiting to decide if anyone in the 2000's is worthy of being on the list. Witten for sure, and Ware has a good start. Maybe Ellis. After that it's hard to say.

1. Roger Staubauch
2. Bob Lilly
3. Cliff Harris
4. Bob Hayes
5. Randy White

I would have a hard time putting Aikman or Irvin in the top 10. Emmitt a solid 6.

NO ONE from the current team could come close to holding any of these old timers jocks and dont even deserve top 20 mention over the players on those teams of the 60's, 70's and 90's. That includes Ware who I have the utmost respect for and is my favorite player over the last 2 decades. Even Novacek would place over Witten at this point.

I can understand not putting Aikman or Irvin top 5, but surely top 10 is a no brainer. Surely for Aikman anyway.

The all-time leading rusher in NFL history and a main cog in 3 Super Bowl winning seasons has to be top 5.

I agree on Ware. He needs to play longer to work his way up the list more.

On the fence about Witten - if he hasn't passed Novacek he should be damn close. I'm surprised from the tone of your post you didn't include DuPree in your TE discussion.

I'm also surprised someone of your vintage didn't throw Renfro's name into the hat. Something like 10 Pro-Bowl selections and the HOF.

If you don't have Ware in your top 5, your insane. The guy registers an amazing 20 sack season and nobody cares?

We have 70 year olds on these boards that think the team that won 3 super bowls don't deserve anyone in the top 5 :lmao:

Who had a top 5 with no one from the 1990s?

Lol i guess so, I mean heck I loved Aikman, Irvin, and Smith but Ware when even drafted by Parcells was even referred to as the next LT. I know I was skeptical but right now I'd take Ware over anybody's #1 pick.

Same, Ware is a top 10 player in the history of the cowboys no matter who you are, and Witten is a top 12 even for the most anti-current team people.

It sounds to me as if we have some youngsters (since we are throwing out labels) that need to get their hands on a copy of the History of the Dallas Cowboys DVD.

http://www.amazon.com/NFL-Films-Cowboys-Complete-History/dp/B0000C8AO2

You will soon find out there is a long line of Cowboys players that changed the landscape of the NFL and paved the way for the current players to get the recognition they do because they are Dallas Cowboys.

As one of those said youngsters, I approve of this post. It's a Great DVD set.

If your knowledge of the Cowboys doesn't go past the Jimmy Johnson era, you are seriously missing out.

There's another set that actually has most of the original Ice Bowl on it. I recommend that one as well.

Drew Pearson would make the list for me before Irvin. If we were listing QB's there is no one that could challenge Aikman for #2 but when talking about the 10 greatest Cowboys he just would not make it.

Dupree would easily be the top TE but to appeal to the younger crowd the closest I could come to naming someone recent would be Novacek. TE talk would also be bogus if Cosbie was at least no mentioned although he would easily fall behind Witten.

Loved Mel Renfro. Very versatile player. 5 of those 10 Pro-Bowl came from the FS position. Also still currently the Cowboys all time leader in kick off return average. Easily top 10 and if you you were naming the top influential Cowboys I would place him over Cliff Harris but I just always had a soft spot for Harris.

If you watch them old "icebowl" videos you notice the game speed isn't what it is today. Ware would have 30 sacks if the game was that speed. Thanks for confirming my choice.

Was that the one directed by Tom McKeon?

Oh boy, love that argument.

I'm also willing to bet you Bob Hayes could run past 98% of todays NFL Corners. We could go all day.

It's not the speed that has changed. It's the speed-size ratio.

There are plenty of old timers that could of learned some of these young guys a thing or two in their prime today or yesterday

I also will always have a soft spot for the guys that played the game before they turned it into modified flag football and became spoiled brats. back when you served your country and god before playing games and played to put food on the table.

And that's Demarcus Ware's fault how? He doesn't make your top 5 because he's a spoiled brat who didnt serve his country and god? Wow.
